    A few updates! First, I found out that you CANNOT buy an AppleCare+ plan in full once you start the monthly option, so choose wisely. Since 2 Apple employees told me that, they offered to let me purchase it in full but they said that it is not actually something they offer. So when deciding between monthly and buying the full two-year plan, keep that in mind.
    *SECOND:* I decided to cancel AppleCare+ for my watch. The reason is that I have become more comfortable with the durability of the watch itself, and I also discovered a super high-quality screen protector since making this video. It is the Whitestone Dome Glass screen protector and I have a review on it here. th-cam.com/video/exox8kNyKnQ/w-d-xo.html

      Haha yep. That's the gamble of insurance. If you know you are likely to break your stuff (you've cracked a lot of phones or damaged Apple Watches in the past), AppleCare+ makes sense. If you generally don't break stuff, it's likely not worth it. We will all slip eventually and crack/damage a phone (I've done it), but paying full price for a screen replacement every few years will ultimately be cheaper than buying AC+ on every Apple product you get.

      I’m wondering if it truly isn’t worth it though. I mean scratches, cracks, dents etc. All devalue your phones price when it comes to selling it in the future.. so by having apple care it assures your phone will ALWAYS be in a “like-new condition” .. therefore adding more dollars in your pocket.. Plus, I’ve had issues with previous iPhones I’ve owned that have a specific annoying problem with the charging port causing my chargers to only allow charge if I move it a certain distraction, slow charge time and other battery/charge port issues. AppleCare would remove those pesky problems.. & that’s my reasoning for actually buying AppleCare.

    for me ill rather be safe then sorry. I had a MBA for 2.5 years before my nephew broke it while doing his homework and then Apple replaced the computer with a new upgraded model for free. If I had no AppleCare I would have been boned. By the way, I also broke the iPhone 6s the first day I had it during a workout the sweat broke the phone and Apple replaced the water damaged phone for free. So based on experience I believe it is worth it. Do they make money, of course because sometimes you won't break it but if you do you are saving 200 bucks and end up spending 1000 what kind of risk assessment is that.

  • @karljo8064
    @karljo8064 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It all comes down to how you use the product. I have had my 1st generation ipad air for 7 years now and it's in good condition. I have seen many colleagues whose iphone screen is broken, but I have never dropped my phone. I don't use screen protector, because I don't think my finger can scratch the glass screen. I think apple care is not necessary, because I usually buy a new phone after 2 years of use.

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, after upgrading my Series 4 to the Series 5 and continuing to wear an Apple Watch daily, I'm finding they are pretty durable. The only device I have AppleCare+ for now is my AirPods Pro, and that's strictly so I can take advantage of a battery replacement close to the two year mark since AirPods batteries always give out around then.

  • @ServantStatusMinistries
    @ServantStatusMinistries 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Well I never bought Apple care and bought an iPad Pro 10.5 back in 2017. It’s 2020 and it randomly decides to stop working and when I brought it in they realized that it was a hardware issue. Never cracked the screen, no cracks or dents because I use it for work... and they expect me to pay $500 for it to repair a 3 year old device caused by the horrible hardware issues they have in the products long term. I think they don’t build quality hardware on purpose otherwise they wouldn’t make money with Apple care and upgrading to new devices. So it doesn’t matter if you took care of your product when they give less than two year warranty on an over $500 product. It’s really a gamble with these greedy people.

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, Apple definitely has issues with quality control. The lightning port on my iPhone XS seems to have a short in it after 2 years, and I barely use it as I always use wireless charging. It's disappointed for such an expensive device. Sometimes if you're lucky, Apple will fix it free even if it's out of warranty, but it's rare.

    • @ServantStatusMinistries
      @ServantStatusMinistries 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Craylor Made hmmmm thats if you bring it in and a worker takes it. I hate to hear that about your phone. My iPhone 6splus thankfully still works today but I have learned to not dish money to Apple like that anymore or do their lease program. I will buy Apple products that are refurbished from third party or from backk market from now on and just pay full price for the device I want of a two to three year model and rotate them when refurbished warranty is about to run out. Kinda like flipping cars. Apple plays on people but it’s funny how when I bought windows laptops or the first Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 back in the day they both lasted almost a decade until I sat on them. I think tech should last as long as cars for the first 10-15 years at least....

    The biggest joke is you pay a huge premium price for Apple Care+ out of the gate then if you need it you get charged a second time for the repair. So what you are really paying for with Apple Care is a discount. It's a total farce. Buy a high quality protective case/screen protector to protect your expensive investment and forget about it.

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. Like I said in the video, the house always wins. If you are truly wreckless with your phone and use both accidental claims it is obviously going to save you money, but the better solution is to protect your phone properly and just pay up for the rare occasions in life when you have a screw-up. I've only broken one phone so far in my life and it was a very obscure and unlikely scenario.

Other the saying "Shit!" I doubt my heart even skipped a beat. I knew the expensive UAG Monarch case I have on it would protect it. People who walk around with no case or those stupid decorative ones are the people who need to be ripped off with Apple Care. I don't need it.

    I generally protect my wrist, and have never had any issues breaking my Apple Watch in daily wear since the thing launched. I’m on a 7 now and never damaged it-other than 1 time that I scraped it against a wall when I had the 4, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker. I kept going. It’s durable.
    I recommend it for anyone on a phone or iPad that doesn’t like to put them in cases, but tbh a case saves you the money and time spent without a phone, so I still lean toward case and no applecare. You still pay for repairs and parts with applecare. It’s bullshit. I may or may not work for apple support…

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you could still get AC+, but Apple typically doesn't replace phones even under AC+ just for scratches and chips. I've heard of people insisting on it though and Apple doing it. If you went that route, it would cost $29 if the scratches are on the screen, or $99 if they are anywhere else (the body or back of the phone). This would also eat up one of two accidental damage claims.

  • @AppleandAndroid224
    @AppleandAndroid224 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For me, people believe the warranty covers alot. I work in retail people always refuse the coverage then come back 6 to 7 months later saying something doesn't work at the manufacturing won't do anything. Then argue about replacing it. All I can say is sorry you didn't buy the warranty. That process happens SO often

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup. I find with Apple it's pretty clear cut. If you damaged it, you pay for it. If there's no signs of physical damage, Apple takes care of it if it's within 1 year. I've had 3 warranty claim experiences with Apple. They replaced an Apple Watch Series 4 that got bricked by a software update.
      They replaced my iPhone Xs when the camera lens cracked and I didn't drop it. Yep - you heard me right. Replaced for free. I did NOT have AppleCare+. I just had to work my way up to customer relations and sent them some 9to5Mac articles about how it's a common issue with the camera lens depending on the climate.
      I also had my screen start glitching out and ultimately stop working after I accidentally took my iPhone in the pool. This was CLEARLY accidental damage, but I took it to the Apple Store and just mentioned that my screen stopped working. They didn't ask about water damage, I wouldn't lie if they did ask me. They took the phone and to my surprise, they put a brand new screen on for free - I've never had an issue since.
      In my experience, Apple is generous in the 1 year window. As soon as that ends, all the kindness ends with it. My charging port shorted out on the iPhone Xs after 1 year, and they quoted me $500 to fix it. I never bothered to work up to CR because I was ready to replace it anyway.

  • @jarrod7465
    @jarrod7465 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Literally just take care of your stuff better.
    It's not worth buying insurance for something that costs $500 like an apple watch. And before anyone says anything yes, Apple care is essentially insurance not really a "warranty"

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree! I don't have AppleCare+ on my most recent Apple Watch and haven't had an issue. With that being said, I would argue that a warranty and insurance are a bit interchangeable, but it does function as an extended warranty. For example, the charging port on my iPhone stopped working through no damage or fault of my own. I would have had to pay $500 to fix it. With AppleCare+, it would have been covered and still in the 2-year window. It effectively extends the manufacturer warranty for another year, and you don't pay anything for a "damage claim" for incidents like that.

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's pretty intense - I've never heard of an iPhone screen getting broken like that. You have to ask yourself, how many times have you broken an iPhone screen without AC+ and how many iPhones have you had? If you've had 3 iPhones (2 years each x 6 years) and you paid ~$450 for AC+ across those 3 years, it would still have been cheaper to take that hit. If you want to buy AppleCare+, there's nothing wrong with that, but it sounds like that was an unfortunate incident and your risk factor is relatively low. Thanks for watching!

    • @calvinwalker4654
      @calvinwalker4654 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Craylor To be honest with any form of insurance you're going to pay more out than you get in return. If that wasn't the case insurance companies would go broke. If you always have enough free cash to repair or replace your phone and you're not a complete klutz any insurance to include AppleCare is probably a waste of money. The time I would recommend it is if you know you've broken multiple phones in the past or just don't have $750 + for a worse case scenario phone replacement. While phone companies will allow you to pay off your phone over two years I don't think they'll do this with a replacement so it's going to be up to you to come up with that cash all at once. The $329 price is for my current XS Max that I have not broken (knock on wood). My 7 Plus was the one that had a cracked screen but Apple would not touch it because the moisture strip by the sim card was red. My options were to pay some phone repair place to fix it but they likely would not have used genuine Apple components so I decided that it was pretty much junk at that point. The only other iPhone I've had problems with was my iPhone 5 when the power button stopped working. It was a manufacturing defect but the Apple store refused to do anything because I was out of warranty and didn't have AppleCare. I found out later that Apple had a repair program going for this issue but maybe the people at the Apple store didn't want to deal with it so they didn't tell me.

    For my iPhone I pay Verizon $9 a month but they cover me if I lose/get it stolen. Which I already did once. But I would say apple care isn't worth it. If you have a am MacBook on the other side I would definitely recommend it. I for a 2015 MacBook when I first came out. Got it serviced over the 3 years and it ended earlier this June. I took it in August with an issue. They looked into it and since the problem was the motherboard they literally refunded for my entire Macbook include tax and minus apple care. And gave it to me to use to get a new MacBook 15 2018 which was awesome of them even though my Mac was out of warranty. This is why I love to have apple care on my Mac and now they even cover accident damage

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gotcha. The theft and loss protection for $9 per month is pretty nice. One thing to think about though is the fact that if you crack the screen and they "repair" tf, I don't think it would be an official Apple part. I may be wrong, but I think only Apple themselves can use official parts. Unless Verizon has Apple themselves fix it. I've always wondered about that for carrier insurance.

    You’re basically paying for extended warranty that you most likely aren’t going to use if you take good care of your stuff. I tell people all the time to put warranty side by side from carrier or geek squad or Apple care. For instance, sprint is more beneficial for me because it's now $39 to replace your screen glass front and back. That's a great price and it's like $15/mo. If you lose it or it's stolen you pay a deductible. Does Apple care cover that type of stuff? I'm not quite sure. But definitely put warranties side by side before spending a chunk of money on one

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      AppleCare+ offers a theft and loss version for $14.99 per month with a deductible. The standard accident coverage is $9.99 per month with a $29 screen replacement cost and $99 for back glass or other accidental damage. Things that just stop working outside of the one year warranty should be a free fix under AppleCare+

    • @Craylor

      I personally bought AppleCare+ for my AirPods Pro and would recommend it for 1 reason: battery replacement. AirPods are famous for the batteries giving out around the 2 year mark, so you can have them replace the batteries (aka the entire unit) free around the 1 year 11 month mark. As long as you set a reminder to do it in time, I think it's a no brainer. You'll be set for another 2 years of use.

    Hello, I would like to buy a 14" MacBook pro but the benefits of the AppleCare Protection Plan are not very clear. Does the AppleCare Protection Plan add three years of warranty to the traditional two years (i.e. five years of warranty) or does it add one year to the traditional two years (i.e. three years of warranty). If it is the second answer, 249 € per year of warranty is not cheap! Thank you in advance for your answer :)

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s the second scenario. When you buy AppleCare+, the term you buy replaces the limited warranty. Also, you’re more so “upgrading” your warranty, including during the standard limited warranty period.
      The limited warranty wouldn’t cover accidental physical damage during the 24 months, but AppleCare+ would. Hopefully that helps!

Apple just offered the Switch with 600 bucks cost, with Apple care this would just cost like 100. even an otterbox could not prevent you from intern failure. Technically, no, but many people report being able to get their watch replaced if it's got significant chips and scratches and they ask nicely. I bought the $29 2 year plan for my AirPods Pro for 1 reason and 1 reason only: I can politely request a battery "replacement" (they replace the earbuds entirely) at 1 year and 11 months - this gets me a brand new battery and a new unit to last me another 2+ years. Since AirPods batteries are famous for wearing out around the 2 year mark, I personally think it's worth it for that alone.

      That's totally understandable. I've had great success with the 1-year warranty, but the charging port on my iPhone Xs shorted out after less than 2 years. If I had AC+, it would have been replaced. I decided to get the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and that's obviously what they want people to do. 👀 Can somebody answer my question?
    Recently, my iPad got damaged and now has a cracked screen. I want to save as much money using Apple’s support service. (I would not like to use a 3rd party service to fix it). So on the Apple page, It says for my generation, an out-of-warrantee fee is $149. If I have AppleCare+, its $49.
    I also searched up how much money it costs to buy AppleCare, which is about 15$ a month. Can I just pay 10$ for the monthly AppleCare+ service and then 49$ for the fix? Therefore, I can spend 59$ and not 149$. Im not very intelligent, so I need answers! Reply answers!

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! Unless the iPad was purchased new less than 60 days ago, you will not be able to add AppleCare+. If you are still in that 60 day window, you could technically purchase AppleCare+ and do a damage claim right after, but Apple does ask that the device be free of physical damage before enrolling, so you would be going against their rules.

Warning...applecare stores or best buy dont really fix tech or computers minor fixes and want you pay new tech or expensive replace or repair..first send to mfg. Or then DIY or specialist. Its gets cheaper repair as tech gets older three or more years older. Most warranty waste of time and money...but fragile small easily lost or damaged most uses worth it. Example...extended warranty worth it for used car but not new one because you are covered at least three years or more. Apple users think apple reps or carrier reps or technicians are special and gonna do good repair...answer most of time no legal ripoff scam artists...its better mfg to fix it or a specialist. Or else you can diy.
