    Thanks for the be nice tip.. I took my iphone 6 plus in for an issue I couldn't replicate. So I was just nice to the guy, and showed him that I have 26 Apple devices registered (iDevices, iWatch and various MacBooks). and he said ya know I can just get you a new phone if you want. I quickly agreed. They didn't have any 128 Gig refurbs in the store so they gave me a brand new one out of the box. Thanks for the Tip David!!!!!!!

    I watch your videos religiously, as I'm hoping to buy the new Macbook Pro when it comes out. I was literally taking notes on this video.... right up until the moment you said "there's one type of person who shouldn't buy Apple Care". I live in the UK.... and you've just saved me quite a bit of cash. Many thanks!

      M Malone Same here. Since AppleCare (as opposed to AppleCare+) doesn't cover accidental damage, you basically have the same coverage with and without AppleCare in the UK. Now, if AppleCare+ was available for laptops I would consider it, especially since the removal of MagSafe is an accident waiting to happen, but since that's not the case I'd rather save the money..

    That FedEX (not fedex here in Germany) pickup thing was something the phone support mentioned once, but I did not get into detail, but that is actually pretty cool given the fact that I live in the western West of the West in Germany (near the border to France and Luxembourg) and every Apple store is like 350km away, at least! Thanks for the tip!

    I recently brought a Apple macbook pro and it is my first ever macbook. I practically learned everything I know about my mac through you. Your videos has been enormously helpful making my transition from PC to mac smooth. Thank you so much for all you're class. I am a big fan...
    Also I currently live in UK and brought my pc via amazon. I soon plan to go back to Sri Lanka where I am from. I was wondering how will my UK consumer protection law you mentioned work if thats the case?

    I purchased a early 2013 Macbook Pro used off of ebay that was less than a year old when I purchased it so I bought Apple Care for it. I have called Apple Tech Support countless times (usually a minor software issue) and they would help me fix it over the phone. Recently I had a problem with my battery life because (I think) I kept my MBP plugged in to often and Apple replaced my battery with a new one a no charge. The tech at the Apple store said it was a $400 charge for this repair without Apple Care. Nice! Thanks Apple

    David I've been crazy busy working 7 days a week wince April so I havent been able to watch all your vids, but this is my first one back at watching and learning and ive gotta say....
    thank you soooo much for doing what you do! Such fantastic and accurate information given, you are saving people so much time i'm sure of it. I often have purchase anxiety bc I don't mind paying premium dollar when its a get-what-you-pay-for scenario, but i'm cheap and a penny-pincher and i don't want to spend more than have to. I'm all about avoiding the stress of go cheap go broke(n) philosophy.
    Looking forward to more classes. Thank you

      he's wrong, the consumer protection laws only come in to place if there is a pre existing condition. meaning that if there has been an issue within the first year which was fixed and it continues to happen after the first year the manufacturer has to keep fixing or replacing it. It doesn't mean you get a 6 year manufacturer guarantee

      I have a 2015 Macbook Pro I got for graduation. I did not get apple care. I'm pretty good at keeping my devices in good condition, and the only time I had to take it to the genius bar, they just cleaned the connections and if fixed the screen issue, costing me nothing.

    The consumer protection also applies in Norwegian. I bought my macbook pro qith retina last year with a friend and his had a power failure. He didn't buy an appl care and after diagnosis said said the fault is a power failure. This was coveres by the comser protection and didn't pay an øre for the repair.

    Good advice. I've purchased several Apple re-furbished products and I've had no issues with them. I've also been using Apple products for 8 years. I purchased a brand new 5s iphone and 2 weeks later it fell in the pool and got water damaged (the home button stop functioning). Anyway I had no Apple Care on the product but I had a history of purchasing Apple products. I was nice about 'what can I do?' when I went into an Apple store. The sales person gave me a new phone in exchange for my water damaged one. Since then, I never buy any other phone or computing product.

      David A. Cox good to know... encase shit happens... well I don't want it to happen, even if it gets sent t apple to be fixed... it would be a couple of days to a week , I won't have a computer...:p One of things i miss from having a PC is being able to fix something by one's self, which I am capable of doing. But its a sacrifice to make.. because I like how Apple systems work and run for my artwork.

    • @la196
      @la196 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      David A. Cox Dave, that's really interesting. I never knew of the UK's electronics consumer policy! Anyone that owns an electronics business has a boat load of pressure to assure quality control in their manufacturing facilities.

    • @la196
      @la196 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LadyDanielle Zana I must say, thats really nice. Up until 3 years ago I never owned and Apple. I admit I'm certainly hooked now:) Love my iMac, iPad, and iPhones but I definitely bought the Apple Care for the iMac. However, I've been extremely lucky with all my electronics through the years. I've always gotten 7-8 years out of my computers. I just recently replaced a Denon receiver from the late 90's for a new one with obviously the most premium connectivity technology with a much smaller footprint. With the 6 yr protection it makes me wonder if that comes at a significantly higher initial purchase price in the UK compared to the initial purchase price when you first buy it new for example in the US? Still at the end of the day...it would be nice to have that "6 year consumer protection".

    • @HarveyKlee
      @HarveyKlee 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      David A. Cox Just moved to the UK from Los Angeles and I always told my friends the same electronics are so much more expensive here due to the expensive xformers needed to step down the 240v power here (dunno where I got that from) but maybe it's actually this 6yr consumer policy coverage baked into their product pricing. Could that be it?

    David, I bought a MacBook Pro without AppleCare a few months ago. I bought a time capsule refurbished on your recommendation a few days ago. It's coming in the mail right now. I talked to Apple support and this is what they told me.
    I can buy AppleCare any time as long as the Mac and time capsule are both still under warranty, and will be able to get the time capsule covered as well. I have to tie in the TC's serial number at the time that I register AppleCare, meaning that I can't get AppleCare first and then register the Time Capsule with it later. This is what apple support told me.
    Can you verify this? Thanks.

    Hello, first of all, great job wit the videos, I really appreciate the free information! I have subscribed to your channel and will be watching any and all content you put out! I just got my first macbook pro (and mac) computer, I bought it refurbished online but not from the apple store, it is not apple certified but it is a really nice computer and very fast and it even came with the microsoft programs for apple. I was wondering if I should buy an apple care warranty. There is nothing wrong with the computer and I will take really good care of it, should I only get this warranty if I encounter and issue or is this something you recommend to have on the computers regardless of status?

    Hi David, I know this upload is 2yrs old however, I just bought the latest release of the 15” MacBook Pro and am not sure if I should go with AppleCare. This is my first MacBook from Apple. I’ve only had the iPhones, iPads and watch. My other choice to AC is to put it on my insurance. I looked into $3,500 coverage with $100 deductible and it would cost me $17.48 monthly and the coverage covers theft, water, accidental damage etc. basically covers everything but does not offer phone support or the other type of tech support Apple does. In your best and honest opinion, where would I benefit most? Thank you for your time.

    I know this is from last year but I've had several apple computers since 2011 when I bought my first which was the Macbook Air. I've never purchased Apple Care for anything I've bought. For one I don't think $99 is worth it when I've never had a problem with a product. We all know Apple has the best hardware in there products. It's one reason why I just about completely switched to Macs. I also like fixing it myself. If something happens by some chance than I have no problem trying to fix it myself. With the new products even though they solder most if not all components I know how to solder and simply like doing it myself. Especially when dealing with other people is typically not that great.

    Yeah that's what I don't understand. It's like paying for something that might not happen and then having to pay more when it does. Long story short: Apple is not for those who do not have money to blow. Still a big fan. Thankful for their dedication to privacy. Thanks for clearing up the apple care system. I'm glad I just got mine fixed for free. For some reason one the genius asked me if i paid with my card as well. I wonder if that is why I wasn't charged. Not Amex tho.

    two weeks ago my friend spilled ice coffee while using my mac, i immediately flipped the macbook and prevent the coffee to penetrate further. Then i put paper towel on the keyboard and let it dry for about two weeks, now the macbook seems to work.I went to apple store, they say the only way they fix it is to replace everything inside and it cost 1210 usd to do the repair. I didn't agree to do the repair because it is too much money, any advice of what i should do next? it is a mid 2014 macbookpro 15inch. The only problems i see is all the key is sticky and sometimes stuck after clicking.

    I’ve been a technical support representative for 10 years and some change. My best bit of advice to add would be, be nice. Sometimes people do bad things and treat you poorly. Try and be open minded when you speak to a new person about an ongoing issue. There are always bad apples in the bunch. Try and be open minded enough to give a good person the opportunity to help you.

    I bought a 2ghz intel core 2 duo white macbook in nov 2008. Never got the warranty and I'v never needed it. Well, except for when I was migrating from my old win 98 campaq the day I got it lol. It only covers internal manufacturer defects so really the only thing that's worth it about it is the phone support and fast and free shipping. Besides that it's like any other limited warranty. I can actually still get support for at least the OS too since I upgraded to OSX Lion. They sometimes seem to have a problem identifying wether I'm calling about my actual mac or OSX Lion so I have to make crystal clear to them or else they'll give me that "your mac is vintage" bullshit lol.

    I just purchase my applecare today. I learn my lesson from my last mbp and I paid a lot of money to repair gpu issue. Luckily Apple gave me brand new rmbp after so many repairs and today I purchase AppleCare. Apple refunded my money after my macbook pro model was recall for gpu issue.

    So a while ago, (before the ipod touch 6th gen was out) a friend and mine took in his shattered ipod touch 4th Gen to get it replaced. They said they no longer fix the 4th Gen, so instead, they gave him a 5th gen, absolutely free of charge. Is this standard procedure in any way for Apple? Thanks, I would love if you responded! And great video by the way, VERY helpful!

    Would you buy a refurbished Time Capsule from Apple as well? They are $100 cheaper.

      sross002 It would only be a good idea if the Time Capsule is the same generation as the current one. The fact that it has ac wireless makes all the difference.

    I would like to share an incident with you regarding when you said, don't be angry with them and they might help you. My son dropped my 15 inch MacBook Pro after it was purchased a week ago. The screen assembly was completely bent and the laptop couldn't close. I went to the Apple store, talked to one of them nicely and said that it was a brand new $3000 computer and I requested them to do something about it. The guy completely replaced the screen, didn't charge me anything and it was written on the bill, the cost was $800, amount charged to the customer was $0 (a special one time courtesy to the customer by Apple Care). It happened in Ottawa, Canada.

    Hello David! I am a new mac air user for about 6 months and I just had this crazy storage problem. A few minutes ago I have free storage for about 15GB then in less than 5 mins it turned out to be 1.something GB. Upon checking all my files got duplicated and I cannot even access the trash bin to remove the duplicated files. These events keep on repeating for about 30 mins until I decided to contact Apple for support in Apple. With this note apple didnt respond to me yet since my telephone support is not available (Havnt purchased the Apple care yet because theres no availability both in the website in and Apple stores in my country) I am living in the Philippines, what will you suggest for this misfortune? I tried restarting my computer and now it works just fine (although I keep on checking my disk utility every 5 mins coz it might shoot up again).

    There is something really - really, really - odd with the Apple Care link you listed that goes to Amazon: the price for the iMac is great ($139.); however, the price for the 15" MacBook Pro is exorbitant ($334.32).

      I will let David verify this, but my guess is that laptops are much more prone to needing repair than a desktop, hence the higher price. But I'm not the expert on that to be sure.
