      Emder its really expensive for a samsung screen replacement too, and its almost impossible to replace it b/c 3rd party screens cost sooo much and theres no store i can walk into and get same day repair
      I pay for insurance from my service provider, plus the original apple warranty. It comes in handy, i recently broke my X (twice actually) first time ghost touch second time i had no response from my iphone, and they replaced the screen for free (and it would be a $79 repair from sprint for the same display)
      So i mean, i technically pay nothing more, given again i do pay for that insurance: and i pretty much stayed away from insurance from apple b/c doesnt handle theft and its no monthly plan (its about $13-16 a month for flagship smartphone insurance from sprint) soo id also be getting a deal from apple

      It’s not always the consumer’s fault. My 2015 MacBook Pro had a manufacturing defect (part of the camera assembly fell down, hanging from the web cam over the top edge of my screen) & a family member’s MacBook (2016?) had bad cabling. Both times, AppleCare fixed the problems without charge to us - the point is, though, that Apple does in fact screw up; so, it’s good to be covered.

      tbh I agree with you for the most part, but there are too many kids around.. The cost for 2 years worth of peace of mind is worth it. Also I use it as a selling point when I sell my phones after the first year!
      I'm going to also give you a marketing secret.. The main reason why companies make money on warranties is bc people don't use them or forget they have them!!!
      If you just replace the cords (which are cheap as heck) then the extra peace of mind is worth it!

      I used to say that until I was going for a run & my iPhone 7 flew out the pocket of my leggings which was meant to secure your phone. The day I pre ordered the iPhone 8 Plus.. it Flew on the road with a good case on it+glass screen protector. It put the tiniest chip in a corner of the front screen. The next day I knocked the phone off my bed onto CARPET & it landed on its back & the shock through the phone must have made the rest of the screen crack on the front stemming from the little chip it got the night before. I had to get the screen replaced so I could still turn the phone in to at&t later that week. Shit happens. You’ll see.

      Howard Simpson yeah, but if you can’t afford it if it breaks you can’t afford to buy it in the first place. And if you can’t even afford to pay cash for the apple care+ and have to do payments, that’s a sign you’re buying things you can’t afford.

    • @BlueTie7766
      @BlueTie7766 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter Engstrom meh bad logic here unless you’re making 6 figures a year you can justify buying a car or a phone basically the issue is that most normal people can’t afford 500$-100000 expenses if my car breaks shouldn’t have got a 20,000 car well that’s stupid , if you can’t afford to always have $1,000 to throw at a phone then that’s dumb is a bad way at looking at things there are a number of things in life this logic applies poorly too and we tend to insure things that cost a lot like cars homes and I think even high dollar phones that can break or be stolen isn’t a bad idea either

    If I have to pay basically $200 for Apple Care plus an additional $29 if I need to replace the screen... that’s $229. I can just hold on to my $200 up front (or put it aside at home) and bet on myself taking decent care of my expensive phone with a decent case. Worse case scenario is that I break my iPhone XS Screen and have to pay $279. The is only a $50 difference. I’ll rather give myself the chance of holding on to my $200 or $229 to began with. In the last 10 years of owning iPhones (all of them except the 6s versions), My wife and I have only cracked one screen which did cost some money to fix, but it was MUCH cheaper than have possibly 10 years of Apple Care for our many phones during that time.
    Maybe it’s more beneficial with the XS Max (which I did preorder) but I probably still will bet on myself taking care of such an expensive item.

    • @Saiunai
      @Saiunai 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am somewhat in the same predicament and debating if I am going to get Apple Care or not. I never cracked the screen on any of my previous iPhones and the one time I did have an issue with touch ID, it was due to a manufacture error and covered under warranty. As soon as I get my phone, I always put it into a case and apply a screen protector for added protection. Even though I have been so diligent in regards to keeping my phone safe, seeing how much the cost of repairs have risen has made me a little uneasy because it has made me think about many more "what if" situations. For example, what if, even though it almost never happens, I accidentally drop my phone and the case doesn't do a good job protecting it and it cracks somewhere. I honestly would be so devastated walking around with a cracked phone especially knowing that it will cost so much to repair it if I don't have Apple Care. Thankfully, I am glad we have 60 days to purchase Apple Care. I think I will see how I am with the phone for the first month and afterwards, determine if it is worth purchasing or not.

    I hate how buy Apple care+ and you still have to pay to get it fixed. So basically you pay 80 bucks for a “warranty” then you pay additionally 70 dollars to fix it if you break it. So your paying 150 bucks and if you break it again that’s 220 you’ve paid to fix it. Idk but I feel like people should be able to buy Apple care plus and NOT have to pay to fix it. I think with all the money Apple makes they can do a better warranty coverage. Where the customer doesn’t have to do an additional pay.

    I had Apple care for my watch (I have the series 2) and I had some discoloration issues with the band. They send me two bands (the first band was the wrong band) but after that I still had same issue and they wanted me to pay for a new band. I didn’t want to spend $50 on a watch band when I can get one cheaper somewhere else. Then the second time I used my Apple care was when I downgraded from iOS 11 beta and I didn’t know that I had to remove my watch from the watch app before I reset my phone and it locked my watch and Apple had to send it off so I went like 3 or 4 weeks without my watch. After that I didn’t use my Apple care much. So I felt like I wasted the money on it. I want to upgrade my watch from a rose gold series 2 to a black series 4. But I’m in debate if I want to spend $80 on Apple care or not.

    What about Applecare vs att insurance? Do I need apple care if I have the carrier insurance already?

  • @DylanM15
    @DylanM15 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Up to the 11 and Apple Watch 5 launch I had never gotten AppleCare+. Years ago I use to get the carrier insurance for like $5-$10 a month but after a couple incidents I saw how not worth it, it really was. Paying hundreds to repair and replace a less than $100 phone several times that obviously had manufacturing issues(speaker would fail consistently after a few weeks). The Apple Watch is a device I plan on having for 3, 4, or 5 years at least and $3.99 a month is a little more justifiable to pay $100 for that over two years than an extra $280-$340 on a phone that’s already $1,199. Especially when those hundreds extra may or may not help if you are smart and protect your devices If you do never damage your device, which I think the majority of people won’t do.

    So wait, 149 for Apple Care Plus, + a 60 dollar replacement fee. 210 dollars in total is not justifiable for the POSSIBILITY of breaking your phone, it's literally 90 dollars cheaper...

    I always spend ages thinking about whether or not to get AppleCare. So far I haven’t and I’ve been lucky with my devices (not a single technical fault or any accident damage since my first (of many) Apple devices since 2003) but I think I’d be tempted by the payment plan if I was going for one of the new £1000 iPhones. All it takes is one moment of slight carelessness and ouch!

    My first iMac G3 logic board died on the 370ish day since purchase, it cost Usd 1,300 then to replace.
    Since then, every Apple product I own will have AppleCare. I had a macbook black fully replaced, 2 iphone 3G, 2 iPhone 6+ replaced no charge. Except my series 3 watch which I have to pay a $70 replacement fee as I had a scratch on the watch. Unfair.

    Of course it would cost way less to repair if you have apple care. We know how it works. The thing people are considering is if it is actually that probable to break the product in the 2-year time and is it worth the extra peace of mind.

  • @dylanwhite6539
    @dylanwhite6539 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    AppleCare+ was already worth it. I bought it for my S1 watch when it was $49, and just got a new watch for free due to the battery. Also, my original charger broke and they sent me a 2m steel charger for my 1m plastic charger. You can say AppleCare has paid out $150 to $240 depending on how you look at it for the $49 I paid for it. Also xfinity mobile sells protection for 12/mo and includes AppleCare so all they really need in their plan it theft and loss through a third party.

    I’m sorry that’s why I am against advocating for the monthly options you get charged more. I’m good with the 300 lump sum on my iPhone better than paying for insurance through the carrier. I’ve seen too many customers break a two month old phone then get a replacement seeing re-manufactured by assurion on the back. F that shit.

    For insurance programs like these such as Apple Care+ or certain carrier programs such as Sprint Total Equipment Protection, it really depends on the person and which seems like the best deal for the buck. For me personally, I like to keep everything with Apple, such as purchasing my phone(s) directly from them and having insurance with them, hence never walking into a phone store unless its to activate a new phone. Since this is the first time Apple will be including a theft and lost plan to their services. Personally, I like the idea, however, this $300 service (since I don't like doing month plans) is in-fact way more expensive than a carrier insurance plan. However on another side note, carrier insurance plans are cheaper but, their replacement parts/phones do contain 3rd party equipment. So I guess, the more money you spend on apple plans, the more original apple parts/phones you'll be getting, and the third party insurance plan is cheap because of the cheaper 3rd party parts. In summary, well everything I just said. I'm dig the new apple care + programs (:

    Dont you in the US have home insurance? In Sweden I pay $20/month and I get home, travel, extra health insurance and insurance against being stupid, for example smashing or losing my iPhone. I just call the insurance company and tell them what happened then they will replace my iPhone for a $60 fee.

    What happens if your phone is lost or stolen within 60 days of purchase can you buy apple care with theft and loss and have it retroactively covered? I guess you could just buy theft and loss after it gets stolen but before 60 days after purchase and say you lost it after you signed up for coverage. Paying for theft and loss month to month if you only own the phone for a year is cheaper than apple care without theft and loss prepaid for 24 months, as you would only be paying a total of $180

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously, you can't lose it and then buy coverage. Please don't try that.

    I think it’s extremely bad apple is gouging their customers more if they want to pay for AppleCare+ monthly. For iPhone, it ends up being some $40 more over the 2 year course, which is just plain stupid.

    the iPhone upgrade plan is terrible! if you have att just do the NEXT program and get the premium phone insurance with it. You can also choose to give a down payment so you owe less in the end when it comes time to upgrade.

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the iPhone Upgrade Program, you're not tied to a carrier. There's no interest, and you'll pay the same amount for insurance.

    • @jvlixn
      @jvlixn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AppleInsider There is interest if you use a credit card for the payment of the iPhone loan. The insurance at att includes lost or stolen device unlike the AppleCare+ add on. Also, who actually switches careers that often for a locked device to be an issue?

    I've ALWAYS bought AppleCare for EVERY thing since my first ipod!!!
    What people don't realize is that it covers EVERYTHING in the box. So if your headphones, cord or adapter has an issue. You just bring them in and they will replace it for free. If a store is too far from you all you have to do is have apple send it to your home. They will also send you a envelope to send it back. The ONLY cords I own that aren't the original are some extra long ones in a couple of rooms!!!

    • @scott8908
      @scott8908 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go to your Settings > General > About, then go to where it says “AppleCare Plus Available”. It should tell you what your pricing options are. And it’s per device. So if you have two you’d be paying twice that. Hope that makes sense.

    Take the cost of the apple care and your co payment and divide by cost of the watch. The result is the percentage probability of you damaging the watch. Same for the phone. If you know from experience that the percentage is too high don’t buy apple care. Don’t act foolish and think that sharing economy and the payments economy is better for you. It’s like with housing They give you 30sq ft apartment for $2k/month rent and you think it’s better just because you can afford $2k rent. Just because apple care cost a cup of coffee on payment does not make it a good deal.

    • @overknight5278

      efibendor1 most of the time people get insurance from the provider too, like sprint tmobile etc
      I have sprint, and use their TEP + which comes out to be between $13-16 a month for the X, and a $79 screen replacement for about $300 phone replacement, which is more expensive then the $10.99 apple care ($29 screen repair and 89 phone swap) difference is , apple never offered such a deal
      Now that they do i might drop tep + and go with apple care* theft

      Cris S you totally didn’t get it. The point is; the payment alone (however low it may be) tells you nothing as to how good or bad deal you make - without knowing how long you will have to pay AND the value of the thing you make your payment on.
