I had my gall bladder removed a few years ago, do I need to do anything significantly differently? Are there any additional things I have to take into account when trying to lose weight? Also, I have been swimming as my exercise, and am putting in one mile to begin with, then doing 5 X 100 meter sprints after the mile, to try to get some HIT in; is that the correct approach?
Dear Dr. Ekberg, thank you so much for this extremely clear and thorough discussion of a very complex matter. No one, and I do mean no one, explains these important concepts better than you do. You are definitely at the top of my long list of TH-cam influencers regarding all aspects of physical health and wellness! And today, I am especially grateful for your mention of how cortisol leads to a craving for carbs. I have a major problem w inescapable stress & consequent sleep deprivation that i believe is preventing me from losing weight. And now, thanks to you, I realize that every time I find myself desiring carbs again, despite my nearly eliminating them for months now, it is merely an indication that my cortisol is up. And so, per your suggestion, I will turn to meditation instead of Stevia at these unexpected times, lol, and perhaps I will finally find a solution there. So thank you again, so much, and I wish many blessings and blue skies to you and yours. And also, congrats on the anticipated expansion of your practice and reach. I live in North Carolina, literally within a days drive away, so perhaps we will meet in person someday.🤞
I started IF and OMAD with a Keto diet Dec. 29th for health reasons. Not only has my health improved to the point I’m no longer on medications that I believe were killing me, I’ve lost 50 lbs! What’s amazing is that I’m 82 years old! I have my life back. I started my journey at 207 lbs. and my current weight is 157 lbs. I’m 5’7” tall. If I’d had this information earlier in life, what a difference it would have made.
Thank You so much Dr. I have noted your instructions Here is the Action Plan: 1. Cut Sugar 2. Reduce Carbs 3. Exercise 4. Meditate 5. Protein 6. Add Fat - Keto 7. Fasting
I am from Pakistan and have been struggling for the past 25 years to reduce weight. Since my childhood, I was obesse as our traditional meals are high in carbs. I used to reduce weight but i was stuck in Yo Yo, reduce and gain. Thank you, Dr. Sten Ekberg, for educating us, I started to work on your given information during Covid-lock down and it worked lost 20Kgs and to my wonder, I am not gaining weight anymore for now past 2 years. I feel so happy and confident. For good health, my whole family is followng the same. We from Pakistan are praying for you and wish you all the best with your clinic.
it is very difficult to cut off the rice completely with pakistani or eastern food (Thai, Indian, Chinese, Khmer, etc), you have to make your own "cauliflower rice" or turn on spinach, eggplants and all those wonderful vegetables. Good luck to you !
That's awesome if you can do it anyone can just follow the principal of this doctor because I love how he breaks everything down and simplify the bad and the good food and even puts in exercises nd meditation
I am doing 80-90% of what you teach in this video. Have lost from 305 to 250. Up and down but gradually losing weight and lowering blood sugar. A1C was 13 and now below 11. I know, still too high but getting there. I am 74 and 5'8". I love that you greet us as health champions. It is a tremendous struggle. I truly appreciate all you do to help save our lives. Ms Pat from southern Indiana
Congrats to you! I have also dramatically improved my A1c in 11 months . Down to prediabetic now so still trying to get under that level. Age 63 and feel 20 years younger, lost 61 lbs so far and .y triglycerides have some down from 1200 to 200. Never looking back to my old way of eating sugar and processed foods.
Thank you Patricia Nunez for sharing your story and helping inspire others. It is indeed a struggle for everyone. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results. Keep it up! 😄
I have done every diet possible. Since I met this chap on line, all this invaluable info has changed my life for the better. I did exactly what he suggested, and wow my fat just began to disappear - I cut carbs, sugar and ate 2 meals a day, working on a 1 meal a day - will get there. Thank you to this wonderful health teacher.
As a retired ICU Nurse, I find the fact you emphasize that each person’s body’s needs are unique to that person, (ie: we’re not all the same) to be so crucial to the public understanding how your excellent information is applied. Thank you for your exceptionally well presented videos! Best I’ve ever found on TH-cam.
I think this statement is great and really makes a lot of common sense. I'm one of those people you are talking about. I have hereditary high cholesterol and Some of this "go ahead and eat red meat" diet advice is dangerous for people like me. My LDL is 337. My triglycerides are sky high. There is no red meat in my life and there can never be again. If I'm gonna have a higher fat diet, It's gotta be sourced from fish, olive oil and nuts. Complex carbs are good for me. I have to eat oatmeal to get the cholesterol down. As you said, everyone is different. Some people can eat steak every day and have low cholesterol.
Thank you Dr. Ekberg for saving my mother's life. Thru watching many many many of your videos you have inspired me to become educated regarding health and I have brought my 81 y.o. mother from the brink of a miserable painful death to losing over 40lbs dropping A1c down to 4.8 and getting rid of multiple prescriptions. She is now able to walk again. Our shared journey continues... You and your channel are a blessing to my family.
I hope to do the same with my T2 diabetic parents, but they aren’t ready yet even though I showed how this works and educate as much as I can when they ask questions about how I lost 60 pounds and maintained for 3 years…
@@Jason-cz3bvtry reading a good book when you reach 18th hr of fasting it will get your mind of thinking how hungry you are, read as much as you can couple hr or more, and see what happens.
@@Jason-cz3bvJust gotta push through. The more you do it, the easier it gets. I've never attempted 72 hours. Longest I've tried is 36 hours and it does indeed get easier.
I lost 25lbs in 3- weeks this is how I stopped eating carbs especially bread, rice snacks etc only drink water and walking 30 minutes a day or 5000 steps I also intermittent fast and do keto diet
I am 66 years old and have been learning to eat better for my health over the last year. I have gone from a start of 303lbs down to current 236lbs....still lots more to lose. All through diet changes so far, intermittent fasting getting close to OMAD and greatly reduced carb intake. NO sugar, no bread, extremely reduced carbs....so far this is very sustainable and I am stilling learning and adapting. As I lose more weight I will include more daily walking exercise and fasting for 3-4 days at least once per month. Feeling 100% better physically and mentally, and I will continue on this path. Many thanks to Dr Sten for all the great information in his videos!!
just found sargento sharp cheddar is zero carbs, and inked keto seed bread is zero carbs, so i can have toast or grilled cheese whenever i want...good luck to you. also just found zero carb tortillas at walmart, currently having shredded rib tacos. and lilly's chocolate chips to snack on.
I'm 70 years old, I've been severely injured and in a leg brace for over 3 months. I just been allowed to add slow bicycling, with very little distance back into my life. After watching your video, I'm going to add walking to my routine. Oh, by the way, Iwas extremely overweight and in bad shape months ago, in the last 5 months I've lost 60 pounds doing keto and no exercising because of my injuries. Thank you very much for this informative video i've been inspired. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How does it feel Doctor to be out here changing lives every day??? You Legend!!! I already lost 45 lbs/20kg with keto and intermittent fasting/prolonged fasting! This stuff is LITERALLY life changing!!!
Gracias Dr. Ekberg. I was previously pre-diabetic and high cholesterol but now following your advice in 1.5 months I am down to 186 from 206 and feel more energetic, sleep better, think better, and even my skin has improved. Greetings and respect to all from Mexico 🇲🇽
It would be wonderful if this message for weight loss could be heard throughout Mexico! It makes me sad to see so many people that are fat. Congratulations to you!
@@Rittlesleo Well one of the huge problems in Mexico, is that Soda is pretty much cheaper than pure water, so even baby's get that crap in a bottle before they have teeth 😢
Mexico is one of the bigger consumers of coke 😓 we also love sweet bread, I haven’t had a piece in over a month and it is hard but I’m watching these videos and being healthier, I’ve always been affraid of diabetes, my mom is a diabetic and so was her mother and whole family, I thank this doctor for his videos!!!
Many states don’t consider chiros physicians. No shade at him.. most physicians don’t know anything about functional medicine and just prescribes drugs that band aid symptoms ..
There us a type of meditation: mind and heart coherence. It’s the best. As you don’t need to trick push your brain to not think. You start with your heart and brain follows.
It all boils down to this. Make a healthy habit a routine and your routine will become a life style. Focus on how you will continue the journey not the reward for finishing the race. Be patient, take responsibility, accept humility. Trust the process. Always remember To have a healthy body you MUST have a healthy MIND first.
Well said.. consistency is the name of the game and re assessing one’s capabilities every 5 years once we are a bit older and making those adjustments to avoid injury
I had no idea we were being food poisoned by the big farming and manufacturing industry until I developed such severe food sensitivities that my entire colon becomes inflamed if I eat the wrong thing. It’s so hard when you’ve been eating it for 50 years. But with your lessons I understand so much more. I was trained as a nurse and learned all the wrong information. Working to try to heal my gut and prevent disease. It’s majorly affecting my life. I’ve had to change everything about the way I eat and view food. Thank you for imparting your knowledge and understanding to us. It makes so much sense to me.
I have been doing intermitted fasting for 6 weeks now. Today I broke my 40 hour fast. So far I lost 17 pounds. Your videos are my motivation, education and inspiration. I watch them every day and repeat many especially autophagy. My goal is 120. I started at 191.2. I think I am/was insulin resistant. I am such a pastry girl. Croissants are my weakness. But I keep watching you to stay strong. THANK YOU! I want to reach my goal by December! Staying in ketosis as much as possible. I have a keto mojo and I check my glucose and ketons numerous times every day. I learn so much from you. THANK YOU so much! Oh and btw I measured my ketons glucose before I broke my 40 hour fast it was 61mg/dl glucose (the lowest since I started 6 weeks ago) my ketons were 4.3 mmol/l (also the lowest) GKI 0.7 My measurements 1.5 hours after eating a generous egg white omelet with fresh mushrooms, green onions and about 3 cups of chopped green mixed salad without any dressing. I only used MCT oil to fry the omelet and mushrooms. I measured glucose 85 mg/dl ketons 5.0 mmol/L GKI 0.9 I am really happy about that. 😁 I have 4 HOUR EATING WINDOW now but unless I am hungry I won't eat until tomorrow at noon again. I like OMAD
Most of what you are doing is excellent 👍 I do have one ? ( And I have been seriously IF / low carb / no carb for 5 yrs now ) Why in the 🌎🌍 would you eat a white only omelet ? You are not a baby 🐣 🐥🐥🐣 chicken ....All other predators who eat eggs 💕 💕 love 💕💕 the egg 🥚 YOLKS and go after them FIRST , ( Then they lap up the whites sometimes but often leave them & go for the next yolk ) egg yolks biologically contain the most compleat available ( 95 %) protein on the 🌎🌍. Dr E mentions right here that fatty meat / fish / chicken are PREFERRED.He also did a video where he ate 100 eggs 🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚 in a week or ten days .He was fine , he did not drop dead from eggyolkitis ... Keep the faith , you are , as I said , doing well .... remember nature knows best .... The egg was really not meant to be separated , as the fat was not meant to be removed from milk , etc....Everytime man thinks he is smarter than nature he loses.
@@Rittlesleo Yeah that's the best part of the egg. The whites don't do much. Also have to make sure you eat the yolks runny or even uncooked, since many of the nutrients in them degrade quickly from heat.
Dr. Ekberg, you’re the real deal. Your advice has got me from 100.4 kg to just over 80 kg in 11 months. I’m on target to lose between 20 - 24 kilos within the year (summer to summer). Most significantly, of all the knowledge you’ve provided, you’ve given me a clear sense of leverage. I now know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that I can have very real impact on my body’s health and vitality by applying this knowledge. I wish you every success in your vision and your new ventures.
I'm 63 years old play drums and want to keep playing drums, since paying attention to your advice never realized the importance of body chemistry interaction! I'm now much more relaxed and moving around the kit much more fluently! Thankyou,!
Hi people, for everyone that wants to lose a lot of weight I can recommend this: - Don't eat a lot of carbohydrates, check the nutrients on each product you buy, if it has over 5g / 100g carbs, don't buy it. - Exercise a little, even small things like yoga or walking once a week can make a difference - Do intermittent fasting, don't eat when you are not hungry. Eat ENOUGH during your eating window (especially fats and protein). - Never snack. I've lost 77 pounds this way. Honestly it's not that complicated, just requires a lot of willpower! I will guarantee that this will work for you, if you stick with it.
Great advice. Reading labels of all packaged foods is a must, 100% of the time. Sugar and high fructose has been loaded into the American diet via the food industry, and the incorrect government food pyramid.
Hey, I started at the end of May, I was 126 now im 117 but havent seen ANY changes. I workout 3-4/week, and do 11k steps a day.But i just cant see changes. Any toughts?
*Thank you so much Dr. Ekberg for giving me the knowledge to be CONFIDENT with what my body can do!* I was SO confident, I threw caution to the wind and dove in. Hello from Turkey, I am a nurse and I met you today. You explain the working system of the body very well. I'm happy to know you. I will recommend it to all my friends. I wish you healthy days.
One of the best overall videos I have seen on TH-cam. I am 75 y/o female because of (a long story) I began listening to videos about keto. Then a friend told me about you. I was just an occasional listener until my spring allergies hit. This year after a day cleaning flower beds I woke up deaf the next morning. The ENT worked me in and my hearing loss was caused from seasonal allergies. With treatment my hearing cleared. 2 weeks and 1 day later I started spring cleanup again, next day I woke up with itchy, swollen black eye. One look in the mirror and that was the day I began keto. (Also more meds)My son and my nephew (3 yrs on keto) inspired me to take a look at keto. My decline in my overall health over the past 25 years made me want to give keto a try. 2 weeks on keto (began with 8/16) and combined with allergies I finally felt like getting back in my yard. The first video I watched that day was your how to begin keto and that is when I subscribed to your website. Here I am 4 month later. Still on keto and I am blessed, grateful, and thankful for you.
Thank you MIDWEST MOE for sharing your great results and helping inspire others. That is so awesome. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results. Keep it up! 😄
Congratulations, Midwest! I'm almost exactly in your situation at the moment. I'm 6'2" and 285 and hoping to lose the excess as fast as possible. May I ask how long it took you to drop from 275 to 195?
@@RichardHarlos I’m not sure, to be honest. I was playing around at first. Once I started Keto, then OMAD, along with walking everyday, the pounds fell off pretty fast. I have some weights as well, but I don’t go too heavy with those, working out a few times a week. I had martial arts injuries for years. Thought the pain would last for life… It was inflammation from my diet. Unbelievable really. Diet is key, along with intermittent fasting. I am 48 now, and n better shape than I have been in over 20 years. I’ll be 185 soon; back to my natural weight. Listen to the doc, it will change your life.
I'm doing the OMAD now since January 1st. I have lost almost 40 lbs. now and have been taken off of one of my BP meds. My Dr. is hopeful I will be off the rest of them by August or earlier. I feel so much better now body and mind. I will start doing a 36 to 72 hour fast from time to time to see how much better I can be. Thank you for the great videos and information.
@@angelasmith257 bro, stop that stress that your body is getting enough nutrients or not - your body is the perfect machine. In case of deficiency, it will either acquired them from within the body or it will let you know😇
God bless you Dr Ekberg! I've recently been diagnosed as being "pre-diabetic" (A1C is 6.2 which is still normal, but fasting blood sugar is 118 ...). A lot of folks on my mother's side of the family (including my mother) are diabetic (type 2); so I was extremely concerned that it'd be a matter time before I develop T2 diabetes too. Your advices (intermittent fasting; keto diet etc.) are god sent to me!!! You literally saved my life .....
I lost 45kg in 3 monts with prolonged fastings and keto, first month was extreme fasting had 11 meals in whole month then switched to omad keto then implemented 2 meals a day also keto and i still kept my weight 76kg for whole year no bounc back effect and still no suggar or carbs. Saved my life
Congrats on the new office! Thanks for the education. It's made a huge difference in my life. I've gone from 167 pounds down to about 150. When I'm on the keto diet, I have a lot more energy and generally feel better physically and emotionally. I noticed when I started keto, my anxiety almost went down to nothing, and I'm 100% convinced that too much sugar was the cause. My wife struggles with autoimmune disorders. When she's on keto, she can tell a big difference as well. The challenge is keeping enough healthy food in our house. Thanks for the great education and motivation! God bless you!
Thank you doc! I spent 10 years, not figuring out my body and how to lose weight... Now I'm not only losing weight but my body is slowly transforming into an ancient Greek athlete body! Thank you so much!
I powerlift 3 days a week, fixing to head to the gym now. When I get back I’ll be cooking a porkchop with a sunny side up egg that simmers in the rendered fat. I will not think about eating again until tonight. You are the one who put me on this path and I can’t thank you enough. Congratulations on your new location and I have tons of family in Georgia so one day I hope to pay you a visit. Thanks Doc!
@@ginax8307 very little, don’t know exactly. I do not eat any processed foods, starchy veggies or snacks just any kind of fatty meat and green veggies. I do eat about a half cup of nuts before a session. In case you’re wondering I’m 55 years old and once a pre-diabetic.
After 70 days doing a keto + fasting lost loads of body fat and feel amazing. What's most amazing though is how much energy I now have and how I'm less hungry despite eating less. I started just doing keto. Then figured myself it made sence to shrink eating window so longer in ketosis. Without any effort went to OMAD. Last week switched to 36/12 but without trying ended up 44/4 and still less hungry than before when I was practically living on white bread. My friend asked me how long am I going to keep this going? I told if I ever fancy being hungry, fat, Ill, tired then I might think about stopping lol. It's hard to get over in word just how good you feel and how easy it is. Far easier than not doing it for sure.
Dr. Sten, hello from Ireland. I would like to thank you for your very pragmatic approach to health and well being. I'm 64 and I've exercised and trained all my life, I still do. Back in the day it was 'no pain no gain' and there was nobody there to explain (as you do) the why's and the wherefores' and how the body responds to the various stresses from exercise, diet and life. We just did it 'cas that's the way it was. I suppose ultimately what I'm trying to say is that 'YES' you can teach and old dog new tricks. I wish you well with your move and your life. From an old Irish warhorse .
Thankyou for your clear and precise delivery of "healthy eating. I was 16st 5lbs, at age 68, bad skin, psoriasis on ankle which constantly got infected, hip and knee pain. This morning, the scales showed 12st 13lbs. Still a bit to go. My psoriasis has improved tremendously, my hip and knees better. My skin is noticeably improved, and the bags under my eyes, almost gone. I actually now dont want cake and icecream anymore, my peas, cauliflower and cabbage taste divine. I started the process of a keto diet just 6 months ago, and boy oh boy, what a difference. Good luck with your venture, you are an inspiration.
I wish you every success with your new clinic. I can hear the excitement and passion in your voice. Just wish the health authorities (including the UK) could see the light and spread the word

Every time I break this schedule, I watch one of your videos and this motivates me to get back on track. You do wonderful things for people. Thanks! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi I am a doctor too and I love how you say very difficult things in very easy and understanding way. I started Intermittent fasting and I need to do it right because Iam older and have insulin resistance fatty liver and overweight. To many years attending people seated, no excercise is the reason why I need a good change!
Fantastic! Congratulations on your new clinic 💖 An absolute testament to your passion and dedication. I for one (a 4 year stroke survivor) and so much healthier because of you and your teachings. I have definitely taken your basic principles and customized to be “my” personal and healthy diet. Getting ready to tweak again as I am about 20 pounds from goal. With mobility issues (which are also getting better because of my healthy diet), I have to follow a diet that gets me to a healthy weight without exercise so that the exercise I can do focuses on mobility and cardiovascular health
Congratulations on your clinic! Just my story. As a 53 year old runner of 20 plus years and low carb since 2018, I’ve had issues with hormonal belly after OMAD & consistent 20:4 fasting. Ive never been overweight but things are shifting. Anyone else out there with this issue? It’s frustrating.
@@peterminton8105 Excellent advice Peter. I have a low amount of muscle and also low testosterone. A double whammy! And then on top of it, I'm vegetarian so eating a low-carb steak is not an option for me. I guess I'm kind of screwed unless I want to give us the vegetarian thing. Do you think I should increase my protein through protein shakes (I'm ok with whey) as long as I'm doing some strength training exercises? I'm skinny in my arms and legs but wayyyyy too much fat in the gut. And my body fat is coming in at 35% on my home scale which I know is crazy. So your "skinny fat" comment really made a lot of sense to me. I know I need to focus on building muscle.
Thank you, doctor, for your detailed guidance on how to reduce belly fat. I was diagnosed to be a diabetic 20 years ago and had been on medication until 2021. I started to follow your advice early March 2021 and I stopped medication two months later because my blood sugar levels were almost normal. My HBA1 C has been below 6 for the padt several months. Thank you once again for your invaluable service 🙏🙏
Great video explaining it. I started my Keto diet + IF around 2 weeks ago after piling up too much weight in the last 2.5 years. I decided to go on for 100 days to see the results. I am at a 2-4 hour feeding window and I feel better every day getting after getting over the Keto flu period. To all, just make sure you don't reduce your calorie intake too much and take long walks instead of running. I will start with HIIT in a week or 2. Meditation and reading are two other things that helps to reduce cortisol. Good luck with your journey and make sure it's sustainable
Thank you from croatia. I started IF and OMAD. Cut almost all carbs. No sugar. No alcohol. No processed food. ( the bread is really tough as the bakeries make such good bread here!!). Ive lost 20 pounds in 2 months!! I feel fantastic. Im almost 54 and i feel wonderful! I cant thank you enough for your excellent explanations and encouragement on your channel!!
I lost 36 pounds last year . Partly down to desire for change but I adopted better habits such as 10000 steps every working day. Eating more plant based foods such as salads/fresh veg and portion control I calculated I consuming around 1400 to 1500 cals per day. I avoided hyper processed foods such as Pringles, crisps, healthy snack bars and sweet biscuits. I didnt go keto I did eat jacket poatoes but not chips, I did eat bread but only sourdough as a meal with eggs never with marmalade or as a snack. I made small incremental changes but was far from keto . I ate more cheese in ratio terms but not in totality compared with previously. I ate more eggs rather than cereal such as porridge and fruit (which I never added sugar to) I found that in the Autumn of last year I had got a little complacent with my new habits and decided to check out interval fasting and ate within a 9 hour window out of 24 which worked brilliantly as long as I opted for only known healthy foods such as nuts 25 grams etc and ate eggs etc but I still continued to eat sourdough bread with eggs and potato /rice with main meals but keeping a check on portion size especially of carbs. Success so far but I have a way to go yet. Fortunately I have never had a pre diabetic blood test result so I will keep on track and look forward to day I achieve my goal of a healthy bmi. More important than ever as I am now in my 50’s The common theme to success seems to be adopting healthy habits that effortlessly fit into your lifestyle and become instinctive and not a chore. Similar with exercise ……..dance if you love it, swim if you enjoy or if you love the great outdoors purchase a good pair of walking shoes and go for a regular walk, borrow your neighbours dog and offer to walk it if that helps a neighbour…….
I live in Nicaragua and have started LCHF and OMAD about 6 weeks ago. You have taught me so much and I am truly a Health Champion. I have a daughter in North Carolina, and next time I visit her, I will make a trip to Georgia to visit your new clinic. Good luck to you and God bless you for all you do for your patients and followers.
Finally, a common sense approach to weight loss. Thank you very much Dr. Ekberg for being truthful with the public. I admire your intelligence and willingness to share this information without using gimmicks or moneymaking schemes like so many others do. God bless you and keep up the good work.
I have been doing 18 hour fasting since 2019. I eat my two daily meals in a 6 hour period, from 8am-2pm, breakfast and lunch. I lost 20 lbs, I feel great, and my lipid panel is much better. Fasting is sustainable, you have more energy, and feel more healthy also. If I get hungry after 2pm, I eat a handful of pistachios or pecans and I get satisfied until the next day.
I started my weight loss journey in December 2021, and with the help of videos like these, IF, Keto, OMAD, and exercise, ive been able to lose 90 lbs. thank you Dr. Ekberg!
Congratulations on the new facility, you have really helped me out, lost over 100 lb in about 10 months so far, about 30 more to go, I find your info to be spot on, again thank you

I'm 58 have 6 children 9 grandchildren and I started eating 2 meals within 5-6hrs. That's it. It works. It really does. I try to eat at 11&5. Noon &5-6. I feel best if I eat no later than 6pm. I go off the rails sometimes but not a lot. Being healthy is EVERYTHING..... Well, being born again is everything.... But health next.... 🙋🏼♀️🌹
I agree - it does work. I am 62 and for the past 10 months I have been doing IF, only eating between midday and 6pm and although I haven’t been a saint having wine in the evenings 3 times a week and still eating some biscuits or chocolate in my eating window I have lost almost a stone. Definitely have more energy and focus in the mornings. I am trying to convince my other half who eats bran flakes and fruit for breakfast then gets cranky around 11 when the carbs crash lol.
Absolutely, I’m doing the same. I’ve also moved to healthy food and some exercise. Certainly the daily 6 hour window for some healthy food is the biggest game changer I’ve ever come across.
I've kind of gone about this backwards. When I started WFH, I didn't eat breakfast already, but then decided, due to the lack of movement I should probably cut back on food, so cut out lunch. I've recently stopped snacking after my main meal, so now I'm OMAD. Since then, I've started researching IF and Keto, so now cutting the carbs. I guess I should add I've lost 45lb in 6 months without really putting any more thought into it than I laid out above.
I started 18:6 IF at the beginning of April and slowly pushed closer to 20:4 with occasional OMAD. I try to keep my carbs below 50g. I’ve done two 45 hour fasts and I’m currently in the middle of a 96-120 hour fast, depending on how I feel at the 96 hour mark. I’ve lost 25 lbs and my skin seems to be tightening from the autophagy. Part of why I looked into IF was for weight loss, but also for the health benefits. I’m pretty healthy already, but I’ve had seborrhea dermatitis for the last 20 years and IF along with cutting out wheat flour and sugar has almost completely cleared it up. I’ve also encouraged my husband who has probably 100 lbs to lose to join me, and he’s lost 40 lbs in just under 2 months. We’ve been yo-yo dieters for a long time and I’m so thankful for your the knowledge you put out on why IF works and why fad diets don’t.
@@Mel-tc7ku I started the beginning of April, so about 11 weeks so far. I probably would have lost it faster if I did 20g of carbs a day. I throw in a cheat meal on some Saturday nights too. I’ve found it very surprising that I’m not hungry most of the time and have to force myself to eat dinner most days. It’s definitely hard the second day though and I’m actually doing very well with not eating today. 6 pm will be 72 hours of not eating. I plan to do an extended fast once a season. I’m super excited though because I only have 5-10 lbs to lose. I gain a lot of weight in my legs, so I’m basing my goal off my thighs not rubbing together lol! I’ve done a WW type points diet on and off for probably the last 10 years and have always been confused on why I’d gain my weight back so quick.
@@Mel-tc7ku definitely try the intermittent fasting. I started with eating breakfast at 10am and dinner by 6pm. Probably did that a couple week before I switched to just lunch at 12 and dinner at 5 or 6. It wasn’t too hard for me because I’ve never been a big breakfast eater. If you can cut out snacking, especially after dinner, it gets easier each week to shorten your eating window. In the beginning I was more concerned about weight loss, now I’m more focused on getting some good autophagy for boosting my metabolism, immune system, some inflammation I’ve had, and the skin tightening benefits.
@ Sarah I just came off 112 hour fast ( 4 1/2 days) I feel fantastic I cut out the inflammatory oils and drink water with lemon and 100% cranberry juice. Switched to coconut flour, I don't count carbs. I've lost 56 pounds no major health issues. IF is definitely a lifestyle that's sustainable. Best wishes as you continue your journey...!!!!
Thank you Dr. Ekberg - this was very helpful and informative. I started a Keto diet back in Nov. 2021. All my life up to this point I had been a carb addict - lots of cereal, oats, bread, pasta, etc. I'm 63 and now weigh 110 lbs at 5'5". I take an early morning brisk walk with my dog, and also do a Russian kettle bell workout 3 days a week, and then stretching and pilates on the other days. I feel better now than I did in my 30's. I used to be an avid runner, but could never keep my weight down because I was famished after a run and would load up on - you guessed it - carbs!!
started cutting about 90% of my carbs and only eating 2 meals at 10 am and 4pm and fasting the rest of the time. I am relatively skinny but have a big belly. 54yo male within 2 weeks I lost 10 pounds. If I only knew it was so easy. I'll be getting smaller pants very soon.
Thank you Dr Sten. I have been on intermittent fasting for for three weeks now. Last week I didn't eat for two days. I lost 5kg. Today I am on my second day of no food. Thinking of going like this for five days. My goal is to move from 95kg to 80kg in four months.
Hi, Dr. Sten, thanks for this video. I started my intermittent fasting 3 days ago because I have a dream of finishing a marathon. I am 54 y.o. and I weigh 82 kilograms.
I have so many questions but I have been watching your videos for about 3 weeks now and they make complete sense to me. I am on meds for diabetes, but all last fall and winter my sugar ran 300 despite the meds. Yesterday I had a reading of 100. Today it’s 124. Not a “ normal” number but so much better. I started keto two or three weeks ago but still learning how I respond to carbs. Sometimes I can eat more of them, sometimes not. I was eating two times a day with sometimes a snack of cheese or nuts. Today I’m starting Omad. I have put on 3 pounds but I’m also sick. In 2013 I lost 40 pounds and was so slim and had lost 20 pounds previously by lowering carbs because of diabetes but it was still so high compared to keto. I lost the 40 by practical starvation and eating no particular food, any old food I grabbed but only ate a tiny bit. I wasn’t eating good fats or vegetables on a regular basis. But my diabetes was gone so I thought. So when my life situation changed a year later, the weight came back and just went up and up, only to gain a whopping 72 pounds. I’ve lost 40, and I so want to lose another 35 to 40. I have mg hubby on board too and he is a tough cookie as he is also diabetic and obese but he has lost 60 pounds over the years, he is addicted to sugar so it has been hard to get him totally on this. I really want to tell everyone I know how this all works but when I try, they tell me I’m crazy and their doctor or endocrinologist told them to eat low fat and not to fast, etc: my own doctor told me to eat plant based. Wow so he wants me to eat fruit and wheat products and thinks my sugar will improve? I think not.
I'm 61. I started a 5 day water fast on January 2nd, 2023. I felt so good on day 5 that I am now on day 14!. Still feeling great. I plan on fasting to 30 days and possibly 60, then switch to OMAD. I'm 6ft2, started my fast at 306 lbs. I'll weigh myself today and at 2 week intervals. I would love to lose 100 lbs. Thanks for the awesome videos, they really help keep me focused!
Understanding how carb intake and the fat burning process works should be taught to parents as part of their child's school program. So many parents keep buying and feeding their kids processed garbage filled with sugar and additives without giving it a second thought. Dr. Ekberg's videos are inspirational and have helped me improve my quality of life tremendously. Thanks!
Thnx for expanding my view, didn’t thought as far. In addition i would like to add that schools and ESPECIALLY the learning program would have to be upgraded to make this lifestyle mandatory, imagine for a second how happy all of us would be if everyone was healthy. I’m happy to see that a lot of people are waking up and helping society forwards… teaching by example is the way to go, so if you’re a parent, teach your kids, no matter of their age. Plant a seed, grow a forest❤️
For me, the key is stress. When I am not stressed at all, fasting and low carbs is very easy. When I am stressed, it is almost impossible. I found that when I exercise I eat less, and until I watched this video I was confused by that. I think what is happening is that the exercise cuts the stress, so I end up with fewer cravings because I have less stress. I've never tried meditation - I wouldn't know where to start and I'm not confident it would work for me. What I do instead, besides exercise, is take frequent breaks from work. Reading a fiction book works well for my break. Also, I don't live in Georgia any more, but I used to live about 2 mile from where that clinic is. Just my luck.
Islam teaches us to mediate 5 times a day and it is called mandatory prayers. Men are supposed to offer their prayers in a mosque so if you walk to the mosque you are doing moderate exercise and then we Muslims are required to carryout mandatory fast for entire month between sunrise to sunset in Lunar month called Ramazan(Ramadan) plus Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encouraged to fast on every Monday and Thursday and consecutively on 13, 14,15 of each Lunar month. Amazingly, how Allah has made His religion so good for us humans and interestingly by doing so we are not only keeping ourselves fit but also earning love of our creator Allah. Thank you for making my faith stronger. May Allah reward your with His blessings, Aameen Regards
We in the northern hemisphere on earth, as Sweden, have in June a “day” is 20 hours, and in midwinter, December, it’s night 20 hours. If that’s an stress I don’t know. But we can’t change it. Best wishes from Sweden 🇸🇪

Another wonderful video! Thank You, Dr. Sten!I lost 30 lbs this year on Keto and IF, but my “weight” ( on the scale) has been stalled for the past few months. Thankfully I took Before and Progress photos & measurements, because I can see changes are still happening. Yesterday I checked my numbers and realized that I lost 4 more inches off my hips (plus inches off elsewhere) since January WITHOUT the scale number moving! Your videos make the most sense to me…and I watch a LOT of YT channels. Thanks again, Dr. Sten! 🥰
Thank you Dr! I just ended my 5 day water fast, I followed your video on how to safely eat again and ate what I had in stock as i had no plan. It was almond butter, 1/2cup sauerkraut, 1/2 cup kefir and 1 cup veg broth. I put on my timer and ate 1 item every hour. 6hrs has now passed and I'm surprised that i am not even hungry. I was disappointed I only lost 2.5kg. I was doing 20min light rebounding on my new Cellerciser from days 1-4. Day 5 i was to tired. You answered my disappointment. Time to make more changes so I can tap into my body fat. Thank you for helping me understand my problems. 😊❤
I am very thankful for your clear and insightful content. You have pretty much single-handedly helped me lose 40 pounds in about 6 weeks. I have gone from 225 to 185 and feel fantastic. I have so much energy, and my joints have stopped hurting. Thank you, sir.
Good job!! My weight was sticking around 245-250+ and if I lost weight it always came back. Finally taking his principles seriously and am down to 215 and want to get down to 190. It’s hard where I’m at right now.. trying to stay active as possible and eat better but sticking around 215. Did that happen to you at all?
@@charleshaas8635 Absolutely! I hit plateaus throughout. I think fasting can usually restart the losing. Even just a 24-hour fast can kick me off again. I MAKE myself do a 50-minute walk a day, too, which made all the difference in the world.
@@a.humphries8678 I got down to 165. Then went back up to 177 and stayed there until the holidays. I am at 182 now, and going back down. I am run/walking daily. I can tell you the closer I stick to the plan the better I do. And it is doable...well, except for the holidays. Lol.
I live in Bulgaria dr. Ekerg and I am Keto an OMAD the most of the days, and I WILL THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT WORK!🙏God bless you and your family. I am wishing you all the best luck in your life and workplace! It's such an honour to learn from you.
Running 5 or 6 uphill sprints twice a week as fast as I could for 20 seconds each then waiting for heart rate to go down each time made a huge difference, along with cutting white carbs like potatoes, rice, bread, pasta and of course anything with added sugar like cookies.

Thank you so much. I have been on keto a couple of times and lately i have come off the wagon and become addicted to sugar and carbs again. I need to get back on track and it's no joke i gotta do it now. Your video came in at the right time. Appreciate it very much!
I started IF some time ago. Also went on slight calorie deficit keto diet. Started walking a lot (avg 15k steps/day). Not only I’m having the best time, I have plenty of energy for exercise (running and weight training) and after that I’m still full of energy to spend time and play with my 1.5yo daughter (she loves the new stronger me, now that I’m able to throw her in the air over and over without being tired!). Losing 1-2% fat per month now. After 2 months I forgot I had insulin resistance - no more crashes since then. Just wow. Big thanks to Dr Ekberg for the fantastic content! 💪🏻
Adapting just a few things do miracles. I do IF (I did fall back into old behaviours) but it helps so much. I went vegan for nearly a year and that's also very cool.
I lost 22 KG in 5 months by following keto omad. To start my diet and fasten up my transition to feed on ketones I water and coffee fasted for the first three days. Once you reduce your carbs to minimum, you don't have spikes so no cravings. So what this guy says really works.
Love your TH-cam. I was on 2 (and Doc wanted me on a 3rd), doing under 30 grams carbs, 13 grams protein, and add some fat. I walk 4 miles a day and been doing this for 5 months. A1C went from 8.8 to 5.7. I track glucose and ketones 2x day. I did this to hopefully reverse Type 2 Diabetes. Now only on 500mg Metformin. Hoping that too will be gone. As an added bonus, lost 31 pounds and only 14 to get to my healthy weight. I hope this encourages others to watch and to discuss with their Healthcare provider. Keep putting these videos out there. ❤
You're the ONLY Dr. I've ever actually wanted to be a patient of. I really appreciate your great explanations, examples and common sense approach to loosing body fat. I subscribed before finishing watching your first video! 😁
I'm on a plateau, hence the reason I am back watching your videos. From 73kg to 57kg. That's 16 kg loss but it is very frustrating as I go to the gym 5 days a week.
*I relate to everything you have talked about it's amazing. I am the living proof of the living message you are getting out worldwide. **_Four weeks_** of walking each day, fasting 24 hrs per week with only water plus high intensity short-period exercise, 18-6 intermittent fasting the rest of the week with selective Low Carb foods, and presto! HbA1c dropped from 6.3% to 4.5%!!! Bulging stomach gone and replaced by shade of abs!!! Size 38 waist now size 34...!!! Avocado had been my main low carb high fat high fibre food of choice; Fish and seafood like mussels my main protein source, and lots of green cabbages and cucumbers!!!! I've also come to sleep easy and early and waking up after 6-7 hrs, and also learned to switch on relaxed music to calm the mind and nerves. It really does work. The thing now is maintenance of this new life style which I have grown to enjoy over a pretty short period of time. THANK YOU, DR STEN - that is God's Miracle work you are doing, and no doubt hundreds of millions of people around the world are benefitting from your work!!!

Thank you so much for your insight on body fat !!! You help a ton!! Congratz with new clinic!

You're the first physician who mentioned 'meditation' as part of a daily health routine. Thank you. Makes sense.
Prayer is better. 😊
@@happyappy19931 Muslims pray 5x per day- it’s the same physiologically as meditation.
@@happyappy19931prayer is a type of meditation, just organized in a certain manner.
A healthy body will create a healthy mind too.
Oh and btw I measured my ketons glucose before I broke my 40 hour fast it was 61mg/dl glucose (the lowest since I started 6 weeks ago) my ketons were 4.3 mmol/l (also the lowest) GKI 0.7
My measurements 1.5 hours after eating a generous egg white omelet with fresh mushrooms, green onions and about 3 cups of chopped green mixed salad without any dressing. I only used MCT oil to fry the omelet and mushrooms. I measured glucose 85 mg/dl ketons 5.0 mmol/L GKI 0.9
I am really happy about that. 😁 I have 4 HOUR EATING WINDOW now but unless I am hungry I won't eat until tomorrow at noon again. I like OMAD

Hi people, for everyone that wants to lose a lot of weight I can recommend this:
- Don't eat a lot of carbohydrates, check the nutrients on each product you buy, if it has over 5g / 100g carbs, don't buy it.
- Exercise a little, even small things like yoga or walking once a week can make a difference
- Do intermittent fasting, don't eat when you are not hungry. Eat ENOUGH during your eating window (especially fats and protein).
- Never snack.
I've lost 77 pounds this way.
Honestly it's not that complicated, just requires a lot of willpower!
I will guarantee that this will work for you, if you stick with it.
You are right.
Great advice. Reading labels of all packaged foods is a must, 100% of the time.
Sugar and high fructose has been loaded into the American diet via the food industry, and the incorrect government food pyramid.
Agree
"over 5g/100g" - what does the mean?
If you eat enough protein and fat, you wouldn't need willpower because the body will be fully satiated.

How's it going
Great video explaining it. I started my Keto diet + IF around 2 weeks ago after piling up too much weight in the last 2.5 years. I decided to go on for 100 days to see the results. I am at a 2-4 hour feeding window and I feel better every day getting after getting over the Keto flu period. To all, just make sure you don't reduce your calorie intake too much and take long walks instead of running. I will start with HIIT in a week or 2. Meditation and reading are two other things that helps to reduce cortisol. Good luck with your journey and make sure it's sustainable
Drink electrolytes and you won’t get the flu.
I ate more eggs rather than cereal such as porridge and fruit (which I never added sugar to)
I found that in the Autumn of last year I had got a little complacent with my new habits and decided to check out interval fasting and ate within a 9 hour window out of 24 which worked brilliantly as long as I opted for only known healthy foods such as nuts 25 grams etc and ate eggs etc but I still continued to eat sourdough bread with eggs and potato /rice with main meals but keeping a check on portion size especially of carbs.
Success so far but I have a way to go yet.
Fortunately I have never had a pre diabetic blood test result so I will keep on track and look forward to day I achieve my goal of a healthy bmi. More important than ever as I am now in my 50’s
The common theme to success seems to be adopting healthy habits that effortlessly fit into your lifestyle and become instinctive and not a chore. Similar with exercise ……..dance if you love it, swim if you enjoy or if you love the great outdoors purchase a good pair of walking shoes and go for a regular walk, borrow your neighbours dog and offer to walk it if that helps a neighbour…….

And fasting
How long did it take to lose the 25 lbs? I need to do something 😓
54yo male
within 2 weeks I lost 10 pounds.
I think not.
can you list to me the videos that struck you
Try watching FAT Fiction on you tube....it will help greatly 🙏🙏🙏
A water fast, is just water? No food at all?
@Elite59 No. Himalayan Sea Salt, electrolyte powder and occasionally a multivitamin.
Praying for your success! How are you now? Thoughts? Tips?
@JettP I did 18 days, lost over 30lbs. I plan on starting another fast May 1st. My goal is to get below 220 lbs. by Sept.1st
@@johnchuba912 I’m on day 2 of my first ever water only fasting . 👍
Dr. Sten Ekberg YOU ARE AMAZING!!! We need more doctors like you in the world.
I’m happy to see that a lot of people are waking up and helping society forwards…
teaching by example is the way to go, so if you’re a parent, teach your kids, no matter of their age. Plant a seed, grow a forest❤️
This channel has been life-changing and life saving.
Rhodiola has helped me a lot with stress and focus. 🙏🏽 I wish you best of luck and blessings. Also during that time of the month it helps with mood.
I'm so grateful for finding your channel on TH-cam. The quality of education i get from consuming your contents is priceless. I really appreciate your effort to educating people and improving all of our lives!
You literally saved my life; I was Prediabetic with fatty liver, on medication. Now I completely Healthy and with more energy that ever !!!
Thank you for sharing the wealth of knowledge. You are a HERO 🦸
Congratulations on your new clinic!!!
Diabetes and a fatty liver isn't life threatening lol, calm down Muppet
Great to hear, man. Glad you're doing better. And don't worry about BigBitchBen who commented above. Don't sweat it. God bless.
@@TheJuicyjunk yeah, they are life threatening. especially diabetes.
Now at 1 meal a day, finally got there, and it is amazing! Thank you Doc, feeling better then any time before in the last 45 years!
Sten! 🥰
So excited for you - You have turned my health around and I too want to help others. Cannot thank you enough 🙏
Veg broth? Almond butter? You need real proteins, fat and gelatine.
That’s awesome! What do you do?
How's it going now?
@@a.humphries8678 I got down to 165. Then went back up to 177 and stayed there until the holidays. I am at 182 now, and going back down. I am run/walking daily. I can tell you the closer I stick to the plan the better I do. And it is doable...well, except for the holidays. Lol.
Hi doc, you're advice helped me lose 75 pounds just another 20 to go but the progress is slowing down and its getting tougher but thanks.
Would you do any other running or exercise as well as that? I must try it.
So 5 or 6 times 20 seconds each
?
@@bingobriano6021 try the rowing machine. It hits every muscles group minus abs and pecs. Go decent pace for 5 minutes with good form then add a few minutes each time till you get to 20 minutes.
@@adamk4733 Thanks dude, I will!
It’s hard to quit rice in Thailand 😂
I eat 7x a day and high carbs and in deficit and losing also the same. Aint deficit the king!
Debra Briggs, look into berberine!
What did u use to keep track of those?
@@donnas5209 I am on the Virta program. I'm blessed that my organization offers this as a benefit.
I also watch all the TH-cam videos that Dr. Sten Ekberg posts. They are very educational and has also helped me in my success.
How long did it take you?
You're the ONLY Dr. I've ever actually wanted to be a patient of.
I really appreciate your great explanations, examples and common sense approach to loosing body fat.
I subscribed before finishing watching your first video! 😁
If you like him, also check out Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Berg. I love watching all three of them and their life changing videos.
Also, I'd recommend Dr. Allen Mandell...he also has very beneficial and relevant content! 💜
I'm on a plateau, hence the reason I am back watching your videos. From 73kg to 57kg. That's 16 kg loss but it is very frustrating as I go to the gym 5 days a week.
One of the best 20 mins I’ve ever seen on TH-cam. I want and need to implement these principles. Thank you.
And that's how much blessings worth you and yours would be rewarded by!!! God Bless!!!!*
Awesome job! Ive made significant progress but know I need to be more active

Thankyou for talking "teaching" us in a way we can understand, absorb, use, and apply the information you provide. I also appreciate that your information is not just for one group of people but for many age, health goals, certain health conditions etc. 2 months ago my blood pressure was 200/120 doctor wanted me on medication and in the hospital I refused. went for blood tests LDL off the charts A1C good stage 2 kidney disease don't remember results of other tests. started I.F low carb right away. year and a half ago i did this for 3 months did good but fell off the horse. As I said I changed my lifestyle right away was eating poorly drinking too many beers/day 51 years old was 235lbs in 2 months my blood pressure average 130/90 and 215lbs still working at it, doing 20/4 I.F still trying to find the right balance that works for me.
