    Those are great. I had a doctors knife in the wasp series & didn't know it was VG10 until someone mentioned it. So I ordered another one, a small moose.
    I like the bright covers. Makes the knife easier to find when you drop it, or misplace it.

      The bright colors do make them easy to easy to see / find. I don't own a moose yet, shameful I know.

    Nice knife . I'm old enough(unfortunately) to remember when Micarta was the hot new handle material ( and 440c was the new steel , for that matter ) now its a regular on " budget" / imports. Time always makes the new common place.
    (Just ask my wife) Great Video. Peace , Be Free .

    I was glad to see they put out a sowbelly in this series. Those covers look cool, and to have VG10 blades was a nice touch, especially for the price! Cheers, buddy!

    Excellent review as always! Alas my Big R boycott is still in place! I’m thinking about the linerlock workknife. (Sodbuster)
    I’ve also noticed weakness on the many of new blades with half stops.
    I think their older Sowbellies are better. That said, I agree with your overall assessment of the Sowbelly. It’s a comfortable pocket carry and it feels good regardless of what blade you’re using.
    And then we all know the wasp is the “A$$H0£€” of the yellow/black flying insects. But the Bumble bee doesn’t sound as mean.

    • @ThriftyKaniffy
      @ThriftyKaniffy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they saved the Baby Bee name for the second color offering of the little flipper you're not a fan of. I know the poor guy/gal whose job it is to write copy for SMKW gets a hard time on this channel, but at what point do we try just a touch harder when a sowbelly is on offer so TK doesn't have to mention it.

    Have a fixed blade with micarta handles and it feels a little slippery when my hands are cold but it's fine the minute they warm up. Wandered why this series of knives was a little more expensive on Heinnies website, it's the VG10. Not obvious when just quickly browsing. Like you said, Sowbelly/Stockmen are very practical, out hiking the big blade is good for food prep, the sheep's foot for whittling and speys a spare. The scales are pretty bright, harder to loose. The R bolster Sowbellies are solid as well. Wouldn't care so much how it looked because it's a solid user. Good stuff!!!

    I didn’t catch that these were in VG10! Yellow is my favorite color and them being so high-vis would make any in the series excellent knives for work. I have a predisposition for setting things down and not being able to find them 30 seconds later, so my tastes definitely reflect that when it comes to color… I guess I’ll have to snag one of these after all.

    So I got this one about a month back, and was disappointed cuz it was “defective”. The main blade tip was sticking above the handle covers, and the action wasn’t that great, lazy closing snap. I’ve noticed that while CKW is cheaper than SMKW, but I’ve returned more RR to CKW, due to bad action and wobble, more than I have SMKW. I’ve very happy with the sowbelly trapper and Barlow I have of this series, so maybe I’ll try again to get this one as I’ve come to love the sowbelly pattern due to the 3.75 length.

    Hey, I think the web guys have rich interior lives. Or high alcohol consumption. Or something. Trapper, eh? Is it really VG-10? If it doesn’t say it on the box or blade, I don’t believe it. I hadn't been buying Rough Rider knives much lately due to how gaudy I find that big R to be. That said, I did pick up a few styles recently I liked, like the new Stoneworx canoe, a couple from their Buckshot Bone series, and the canoe and hawkbill from this series. I think the WASP series is done well, the yellow and black combo came out quite attractive. I can't decide if I prefer how they did this series or how they did the Black Widow series better. Good review.

      Never even see the "big R" when I am cutting things up all day long. I too prefer a clean bolster, but at price point, don't care. With RR value, usability come first. And I wish they put a higher focus on edge angle consistency far more then getting all upset over the R bolster. Especially the vg10 series knives as to reprofile them takes considerable more time. Want smooth bolsters,buy a case, simple. Meanwhile I will continue to use that gaudy R bolster knife daily. And I was a picky premium modern folder collector for decades,still am, but expanded my thinking to appreciate all knife types, styles. I grew up.
