Hello and welcome to Thrifty Kaniffy. This channel provides knife reviews and discussion of pocket knives as well as the hobby of knife collecting at large. Thrifty Kaniffy has expanded to focus on three categories of knives. Base TK reviews are of traditional pattern folding knives and fixed blades under $50. The TK Modern series of reviews include modern knives under $100. The TK Premium line of reviews includes knives of any type with a price exceeding $100. Periodically, there will also be videos which delve more deeply into the history of a particular knife or knife brand when it seems appropriate. Come along for the fun and join me in the comments for each video. If you enjoy the content please like, subscribe, and consider joining the Commando Club for exclusive members only content. Case and Bear and Son are knives made in the USA they have great selections around $40 I try to buy USA products China makes cheep stuff and it most of the time is not good quality.
China bad.
Good live guys 🤙
Great show lads,I'll do a video tomorrow with the proper scores and knives.lol😜
Great info. Thanks TK.
Thanks for having a look, Hammock.
I ordered mine from buck knives but decided to make it look like Dexter's knife off of the series Dexter I got a brown handle and brass and s30v steel^^but also if the book company was to be smart they could put pins inside the knife to keep it just in case if they don't actually have to put glue it could last much longer I wish they would think of that.
There's a pin through the pommel.
@@ThriftyKaniffy I was thinking about like the handguard where it has the black line through it, they should have made that one solid piece instead of splitting it, it just puts a lot of glue inside of a knife so much glue that we really don't need the last part is the more solid the more last longer it will be:)
I have a Sabre Barlow USA looks and feels like a craftsman knife. Picked up today a Japan Sheeps foot two blade Barlow says Atlas Japan. Good Quality. Looks just like the Sabre. Thank you for this content.
Glad you enjoyed the Sabres. Thanks, Tim.
Where to purchase
It's sold out at retail, so the secondary market perhaps.
Great barlows man! Thanks for showing. Got quite a few of those myself, have you seen the blue and black granddaddy RR? Boootiful!! CHEERS!! 🍺🍺
I have. Thanks for habing a look, SAHB.
Now that is a beautiful knife!!!
Thanks very much, Harbin.
Bonita navaja, saludos desde Santiago de Chile 🇨🇱
Gtacias, Koke.
I hate my super tinker, because I tend to leave the Leatherman pliers at home and use only the SAK in EDC. Made all of my investments in to dust collectors.
To the contrary, sounds like you really like it. Might be time to pass the others along. Thanks, nameless.
I love this knife!❤ Hope they do it in more colors.
Coming in stag I've been told. Thanks, knifetrain.
Really enjoyed the show! Great guest and great job!
Glad you enjoyed it, David.
I’m just now catching up to this video a year later. Knowing what I know now, namely that MagnaCut is available in the Buck custom shop, I certainly *don’t* consider this knife worth the money. $175 will get you a custom shop 110 with the MagnaCut blade and and nicer scales or bolsters…
The benefit of hindsight. Magnacut wasn't in the custom shop at the time.
Fun show! TJerk was a great guest!
Glad you enjoyed it, Eric. Thanks for watching.
Hey do they still make that case teardrop with the warncliff blade in this vid 🤔
Yes, occasionally.
@@ThriftyKaniffy beautiful 😍
I just ordered the 2 barlow for 19 on Amazon looks the same but the shield on the handle is smaller🤔
Cool, hope you enjoy them, Joe.
Hey John 👊🏼 That is a lovely knife - stunning! A.H. is such a great custom maker and a unique gift from Matt. Thanks for sharing, ATB Gus 🍻
Thanks very much, Gus. An incredible piece and very thankful to have it.
Thx for Having me was Fun :)
Thanks for coming on! We had a great tiime.
It was a blast thank y'all
Thanks, MrsC.
Sorry, not a real Marble but a Chinese knockoff....get the vintage which is USA made!
A great budget piece. Thanks for being open minded.
I agree with you on scales and color. I tend to get little peanuts and junior stockman's and such with fancy scales and bright colors for collecting and Sunday carry, but larger working knives I go more synthetic and plain. That green is awesome but they are all great.
Thanks very much Sean. Appreciate you watching.
Great knife I got few of them I like the muscrat style main blade
Yes very slender. The older Old Timers are great.
I just got my 1st case trapper it was 69 doller special on shc at first i was not happy had some light scuffs on the back and the gagps look good but dont shine a light through it lol but i build guitars buy hand no no cnc hand assembled are they perfect prs taylor quality not even close but i said man people are sitting down all day trying to put them together after 500 your not gonna be that exciting i like my special case now it has soul like my guitars and it wasn't 1k dollars so im good
So long as they keep selling thats just the quality you can expect from them.
@@ThriftyKaniffy agree 👍
Id give you $200 for that knife, i have the entire set except the $58 sod buster & it's going for nearly the most 😆 i got the rest for $100-$150, i need this one is all if anyone has it & wants to sale it id take it!
I'm sure selling it on ebay would fetch that, but I'm not interested.
Just got one in desert fox orange and black g10. Like their folding hunters.
It's a big boy. Thanks for having a look, Sean.
That’s gorgeous, man. I love that. The handles are damn near perfect. Have you ever seen the Blade HQ exclusive 110 in green micarta/brass and S45VN?
Yes, I've been tempted by that one as well. Thanks for the kind remarks, Area51.
@@ThriftyKaniffy yes, sir. Thank you for all the great videos. I love all the Case and Buck content. I actually have one of those BHQ exclusive 110s being delivered to me today. I couldn’t resist the sale price. $129 is a good deal IMO. It’s basically a custom shop model. I bought one and the next day noticed they were out of stock. I’ll let you know how the fit and finish and everything is when I get it.
All the new China Old Timer knives that I own are solid and flush. I often wonder if they're made in the same factory or area of China that manufactures Rough Ryder & Marble's.
There are a lot facilities over there, probably not I would guess.
Thx for review. Am on travel lots and only need knife and scissor. Victorinox ex dont have that option. You know any brand similar to this one you review with scissor. Thx
I do not. Thanks for having a look Moontrak.
Great subject 👌 😊
Thanks, Michael. Hope you're doing well.
@@ThriftyKaniffy Dry and safe brother. 🙏
Sooo nice thinking about the trapper in the Kentucky bluegrass 😊
A great looking handle material. Glad I picked this one up.
@@ThriftyKaniffy I bet I order the trapper looking forward to it my 1st case
Beautiful knife. I like your choice of Elk Horn with brass. I’m thinking of ordering a custom 110 also with Magnucut steel for the blade, nickel bolsters, with either ironwood or elk horn and the distressed brown sheath. That puts the price right at $230-255 depending on which handle I go with. From a pricing standpoint, considering that most production knives from brands like Spyderco or Benchmade will cost even more and that’s not even going the custom route, I’d say the Buck is a good value. Dollar for dollar.
I'm just glad they've provided the Magnacut option. It really does provide one with some well rounded choice in a knife from Buck.
Do you still use this 🤔
Quite a lot. Thanks, Joe.
@@ThriftyKaniffy Kool need to pick one up
I really want this model in a blue micarta. I'll very likely end up with the bone one, regardless, but man.
It would make it a bit more day to day durable. Thanks, Plan.
Is that all about pocket knives James& company? Thanks for sharing brother 🤙
Correct, Piper.
Bought one of these a couple months back, then bought a second as a backup.
These are excellent, Kevin. Not a bad idea.
Excellent show! I thoroughly enjoyed the topic. Thank you John, Matt and Andrew! 👍 Cheers, RW
Awesome, RW. Thanks for tuning in. We appreciate it.
7cr17mov is between 440a and 440c in quality. Which is excellent for hunting and fishing knives and a huge step up from 420 or 420hc in edge retention. Don't sell that short. These are very good blades with awesome sheaths for the money, maybe the best deal out there. These have about 0.75% carbon as opposed to 420 having about 0.45% carbon. Makes a big difference in hardness and durability.
Thanks for the info, Curly. This skinner is a great design.
Awesome knife! Thanks.
Thanks for having a look, Curly.
Missed the live show, but enjoyed the rerun, especially the visiting professor of cutlery.
Glad you enjoyed it, Mike. Thanks for taking the time.
I sent my Huntsman to the Assitance so they will change the corkscrew for the phillips screwdriver plus complete maintenance for a quite nice price. Nice review!
Thanks for the info, Drummer.
I have a Schrade I bought in the late 1970s , still going strong. It’s my all around go to.
A very dependable knife. You got a good one. Thanks for watching, James.
I like the rose craft but after shipping im well over 60 might as well go pick up a case usa at ace hardware in person are they ever on sale ? Thanks 😊
On a few occasions there's been sales on 2nds. Thanks, Joe.
Missed the live show, travelling again
We're glad you tuned into the replay. Thanks, Burr.
Great video 👍 yep I get a lot of satisfaction cleaning up knives. Just cleaned up a 1942 Fairbairn Sykes. But not to the point of devaluing it 👍
Nicely done, Will. It's a relaxing task.
I've been adding Rosecrafts to my collection, and they're mostly on the mark. I just got a French Broad Jack in rosewood, but the fitment was terrible. *But* I'm not too upset, because not only did I get taken care of by the place of purchase, but for the price, you have to realistically expect a lemon or two to hit the streets. Overall, I think they do a fantastic job.
Glad you got it worked out, I've never had a bad one. Thanks, Plan
110 50 year anniversary looks much more better I don’t understand why the didn’t do it again it’s my favourite
I'd say it was a pretty good deal given what you were getting. These are long gone now.
@@ThriftyKaniffy yes I wish I bought one more for my dad
I’d buy one tomorrow if they made this buck in the USA and didn’t use 420j2 steel
Right, ok.
Great video TK. I have not tried this yet - but I will do at some point. Have you seen Felix Immler's video about removing scales? He recommends soaking in hot water to soften the scales slightly to prevent damaging them when removing. I quite like the Wharncliffe blade shape it would be great if Victorinox
Yes, but I prefer using a hair dryer to soften them. It is still no guarantee in avoiding some minor scale loss to the flanges.
@@ThriftyKaniffy 👍
Got one of these from a flea market today for $2.50. Small blade is missing the tip, but I like it. Granted, it’s nothing expensive originally, but it was a good deal.
Just a good ol Colonial. Budget, but a hard worker and American made.
