    Thank you for this video! Extremely insightful for the instal and extremely well done.Just put them on my ‘05 GT along with a Brenspeed performance tune (and some other stuff). They sound great! I have 2 suggestions to add having done this myself: 1- You will very likely get “some” debris in your valve train in the process of removing your valve covers/manipulating the cams, etc. so I would suggest dropping your oil after you tighten the new cams, and pouring some oil onto each side so any debris drains out, then go ahead and add new oil & filter. 2- when you’re removing the cam phaser bolt, use an air gun if you have it! Getting it off quick makes it less likely to disturb the timing chain.

    I really love the sound of the Detroit rockers, but my goal is for more power over sound, but to stay streetable. So I've come up with a combo for my f150 5.4 3v that "I think" will give me what I'm looking for. Custom grind cam, intake 235°@.490 lift, exhaust 230°@.500 lift
    With 112°lobe separation , port match the intake and exhaust, shorty headers, cat delete w/dual 2.5 exhaust w/xpipe. Hope this works.

    • @alpha2gproject783
      @alpha2gproject783 ปีที่แล้ว

      Long dead thread but you're more or less wasting your money. First, the shorty headers do absolutely nothing for you so whatever gains you do get will strictly be through the cams. The second are the cams in general. Unless you can get intake adapters to fit something other than the truck manifold you'll barely see much of a gain over 15 wheel because the stock manifold can't flow enough. The heads can support an easy 250-350 wheel but it's the intake that lets the 5.4 down.

    • @dalelockett2619
      @dalelockett2619 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Four_Eyes…..FYI, found out from some snooping that you can't incur any piston-to-valve clearance issues on these 3V's using a "drop in" type camshaft from a VCT solenoid failure as the cam lobe design is engineered to operate within the full OEM VCT cam phaser physical swing range of 30* total camshaft retard from base camshaft timing as designed in the cam phaser itself (as are the OEM production camshafts). The only way to incur actual piston-to-valve contact is from the engine actually jumping PHYSICAL time (timing chain, sprocket, tensioner, guide failure and\or actual catastrophic cam phaser, camshaft or crankshaft failures). The issue w\ the failures that took out the engines of the 2 TH-camrs mentioned were most likely due to improper cam installs (misalignment of phaser pin into the pin slot of camshaft nose causing pin damage\breakage during tightening of cam phaser to camshaft or left 1 cam phaser bolt loose enough from either under torque or over torque to cause cam phaser to cavitate on camshaft nose while in rotation banging into phaser pin causing it to fatigue then break) into the cam phasers that caused the timing PIN inside 1 of the cam phasers to shear off which allowed the camshaft to physically rotate out of time inside the cam phaser's cam socket causing a piston to hit a valve held open at full lift height by camshaft when piston is arriving at TDC. This most likely occurred due to installing the camshaft back onto the head w\o removing the necessary followers (doing this work w\o using a valve spring compressor) to put the camshaft into neutral unloaded position BEFORE installing the cam phaser back onto the camshaft due to the camshaft pin slot being rotated slightly out of alignment due to camshaft being under spring tension w\ the cam phaser alignment pin then being forced in during tightening of cam phaser bolt. The way you did this (installed the camshaft back into the cam phaser fully engaging the phaser pin BEFORE laying the camshaft back onto the head cam tower journals) is the better way to do this IF a valve spring compressor is not used along w\ the Ford approved removal\install procedure to unload certain camshaft lobes of valve spring tension in neutral alignment position w\ the cam phaser still kept in time on timing chain (which will auto align the phaser pin w\ the camshaft nose pin slot w\ the camshaft "locked in place" by spring tension on the other followers that are left in place so as long as the new camshaft is laid back onto the head in the exact same position as the old camshaft was before removal, pin misalignment\damage will not become an issue during installation as the camshaft will be fully resting into the head cam towers w\ no spring load on camshaft so the cam phaser will be in perfect alignment w\ the camshaft nose and the pin to pin slot so all can be reinstalled w\o fear of rotation or having to fight spring tension to realign the pin to pin slot to ensure that the phaser is fully seated onto the camshaft nose thus phaser pin into camshaft nose pin slot before torqueing the phaser bolts). So cudos to you. Those alignment pins in these cam phasers are VERY strong....they are designed to not fail under most typical torsional loads from camshaft counter-rotation due to valve spring loads....as long as the phaser bolts are properly torqued down to spec (not left loose due to under torque or caused excessive bolt stretch due to over torque) so phasers aren't wallowing on camshaft nose while rotating OR pin was damaged from forcing the misaligned phaser pin into camshaft pin slot during install while tightening phaser bolt. Your engine shaking was due to cams being out of phase to each other due to the bad VCT solenoid--not being out of time (1 side at base timing, other side stuck in retard timing from failed VCT solenoid allowing oil pressure to phaser to hold cam in retard timing). This will also cause cylinders on the retarded cam side to have lower cylinder pressure vs the base cam side due to the retarded side's IVC points during compression stroke to occur later in crankshaft degree rotation vs the base side which will throw the engine out of balance when running and 1 side showing lower cylinder pressures vs the other side during a compression test). Oh, BTW, I watched 1 of your earlier videos & saw that you've always had the Airaid CAI installed...….. :) My bad.

    Those Detroit cams are eargasmic... hey, quick warning before you jump into the rabbit hole that is suspension upgrades on your S197... don't make the same mistake that I did. If you are going to lower the car any distance at all, realize that the further you lower your suspension, the more stress/wear&tear you will put on certain components. Changing said parts out for adjustable versions of them will greatly reduce said stress.
    IE. the 05-09 parts that usually should be replaced when you lower the car include adjustable front sway bar end links, adjustable tie rod ends (aka. bumpsteer kit), ball joints, adjustable rear upper AND lower control arms, and adjustable panhard bar (alternatively, throw out the panhard bar for a Watts Link kit, which is expensive).
    I'd advise for KONI STR.T shocks/struts, and SR Performance's Strut Tower Brace and 1.5" Lowering Spring Kit. Best value you can get, but keep in mind lowering the car will come with needing to upgrade some of the suspension to adjustable parts.
    Love your channel, love your videos. It's a damn shame you don't have more subs/views, because your quality>quantity approach is hard to come by in the car community these days. Kudos.

      Thanks for the thoughtful comment. The suspension upgrades will constitute a near-complete overhaul. Definitely not just getting coil-overs and calling it good.

    This is a great video. Very detailed, which is nice for guys like me. A lot of information is skipped in videos like this because a lot of the information is assumed to be common knowledge which might not be for all aspiring mustang enthusiasts. Keep up the great content. thanksP.S. I love the performance upgrades in the 4 stages

    I know this is an older video - but the sound you have here is unlike almost any other video I have seen. Did you set a lower idle speed? You have a chop similar to the FRPP cams I had on my 3v mustang, and while shopping for cams for my 3v sport trac - I’m torn between the FRPP and the DRs. The DRs will have less low/mid loss, but I’m not racing my truck or anything…I just miss the feeling. I’m leaning towards Brenspeed just for their customer service though, they are incredible.

      Idle was set at 850 RPM. The DR's are great, I probably shouldn't of sold mine.
