+Juan Beltran Manuals usually experience ~15% drivetrain loss, Autos, closer to 20%. These figures can be improved by cutting out rotational mass in drivetrain components, ie: lightweight driveshaft, lighter internals and rotating assembly, lighter flywheels... even lighter wheels can help get that power to the ground. The less your engine needs to work to move all these things, the more power is available to put to the ground and move you forward.
Wow, looking at the before and after dyno curves, this combo is crap. It is down 25-35HP all the way to 4500 RPM, where it is equal and then the new cams take off. What's worse is that torque is down by 50ft/lbs at 2500 and picks up 9ft/lbs at 4800rpm. These cams may sound good, but performance wise this combo is a net loss. It's hard to tell if the intake or cams are responsible, because the CMCV is designed to help low RPM performance. I'd say that intake is probably too much for stock heads and you'd be better off with the stock manifold -- you are losing a lot of velocity down low, just look at the stock torque curve, it's flat from 2k to 3k and rises 35ft/lbs to peak. The cams increase the peak values by 500RPM, but the manifold seems to kill performance down low.
+eformance It's the intake. The Ford Racing intake looks cool but sucks unless you're spinning the engine to 7000 RPM. I saw a test online where they took a car with big cams and ported heads and put the Ford Racing intake on it, it lost a bunch of power down low and only made 10 more hp way up in the RPM range.
just take the day off. expect to be in the garage for quite a while. these things never go as planned and you always lose a bolt or two and end up spending 30 minutes looking for the damn thing. or other little mishaps may happen. so its best to just give it a day in the garage. now if you have someone helping you that knows that they are doing id say a couple hours.
haterget1nb3ast yes a manual transmission has less drivetrain loss than an automatic because there is less components in a manual transmission to get the crank hp/torque to the rear wheels

+joseph ojea It's Ford's internal nickname for this generation of Mustang. The nicknames loosely reference the chassis and drivetrain setup. For example: 1979-1993: "Fox", 1994-1998: "SN95", 1999-2004: still SN95, but received the new nickname "New Edge" because of the redesigned panels ("New Edge" wasn't an official Ford nickname), 2005-2014: "S197", and 2015-Present: "S550".
This is very disappointing. Together all these cost money and there is no "bang" for your buck with this setup. I have no idea which direction to go for my auto S197.
+Roberto Williams id just go with a coyote engine and slam that into the engine bay. It pushes 420hp stock and its a brand new engine! Only problem is youll have to rebuild most of the drivetrain because of all the power. Good luck!
Christian Wartluft That's not a bad idea at all and one to actually consider. I was just hoping I could do full length exhaust, CAI with tune, camshafts, and throw on a supercharger & see some well respected power.
+Roberto Williams well with all those mods and if you pay someone to put them on, youll be spending roughly the same amount as you would with a brand new engine but with the engine its guaranteed power. Plus, making power on the 5.0 4v is easier than the stock 4.6. Theres much more potential to build a race car out of the Coyote.

Unfortunately, we can't answer that question. There are way too many variables involved to say yes or no. If you do decide to upgrade cams, I would recommend upgrading the valve springs at the same time. -Landan
If anyone can answer this, I would appreciate it greatly. I have a 05 Mustang GT with 38k miles and I'm hoping to replace only the cams. The car has been taken care of for those 17 years, but I'm not sure if it is a good idea to replace the springs/the entire valves in general. Do you think the hot rod cams will be fine with the 17 yr old OEM valves?
Rodger - I would talk with a local machine shop and get a professional's opinion on this. -Landan
I just have a quick question. Are there cam bearings?
no the cam runs in the head aluminum!
How hard is it to get the phaser bolts out? Mine are REALLY stuck in there.
+KartKing4ever Depending on the engine, every phaser bolt I have personally removed came out just fine. What are you using to remove it? -Landan
Late Model Restoration hey man ...iv installed stage 2 comp cams on my 2003 mustang gt ...the problem i have is that the cams sound really low ...it dose not have that rough idle noisy sound ...although its a 495 lift ! Would you please help me figure this out ?
Dream big, Be happy, and live in peace
thank you!
So it doesn’t matter what position the cam is in as long as the phaser and timing chain don’t move
If the phaser and timing chain do not move, camshaft orientation does not matter. The camshaft will align with the keyway on the phaser. If they are moved, you'll have to pull the timing cover and retime the engine. -Landan
@@latemodelrestoration thanks she’ll be getting cams soon
Great video! :D
Is there a video on cam install for 99-04?
Hey Kevin. We unfortunately do not have a cam install video for a 1999-2004 Mustang. -Landan
Nice! Are there any hot rod cams for the 4.6 2v??
Takeshi O Unfortunately, hot rod cams are not available for the 2 valves. -Landan
+Late Model Restoration how come the new 5.0's don't have looping cams???
+eidolonbreed Because it is DOHC motor. Much harder to install
@@eidolonbreed you can get them for that engine as well!
would this work on previous models? (99-04 4.6 mustang)
Yea but are they smog compliant..
Unfortunately, these will not meet CARB legality in California.
should of just installed 4:10 gears and put an manual 5speed in it. probably would smoke this price upgrade
How wide is the intake opening? Will it match a 62mm tb
Something not right, my 2006 gt got 335hp with power flow intake, FR intake manifolds, FR throttle, long tube headers and flow master mufflers.
Assaad Zayer auto? Or manual?
Hi
there is connections in the back of the Intake Manifold... what should i connect it with ?
Omani4ever99 The same vacuum line from the factory intake manifold. -Landan
probably could have gained that much hp with just a tune alone. Awesome video though
Only 281 with all those bolt ons?
And that means what ?
@@andrewslagle1974 The car should make well over 300rwhp with typical bolt-ons is what he meant. Something was off with that car to begin with.
my bolt on 3v mustang makes 320 hp and 333 tq.
John Flores what's your mods on it?
Marcos Acosta BBK longtube headers with x pipe, Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust. JLT cai. with a custom tune from Two Ten Performance
Can this be done to a stick shift mustang? Same process as shown in the video?
Yes, the process is identical. -Landan
That's not that good to be honest and I'm a mustang fan but my G37S (3.7) with Stillen Gen3 intakes and tune made 312 and mind you I didn't crack open the motor yet
Yes 312hp is great but not when you make no torque. Vq engines are known to have terrible torque outputs. This car made 318lbft of torque while your 312hp g37 probably only made 270lbft of torque.
@@mikestoms4015 check my IG streetking310 you will see why I said that. I have a C6 corvette and a 5.0. This is horrible for the money
@@gblikesnikes I have an 05 gto which is the same power train as your c6 as well as a pro charged 350z. You are correct in saying This is not good for the money I’m just saying your g37 comparison was not a fair one since you didn’t mention and weren’t considering torque numbers.
Do you have to have better valve springs
You don't have to upgrade them, but it is recommended that you have upgraded valve springs
Does anyone know the name of the valve spring compressor tool used here and/or where to find it?
+legends51 Here is the link to the one we used for this install: lmr.com/item/LRS-ST101/3V-Valve-Spring-Compressor-Tool-05-10-ST-101

Can yall dyno my car lol and tune it hasn't been tuned or dynoed since changing alot of things on it it does have the tune for the cams but I feel that I can get more out if it than I am currently I live 30 mins from late model lol if yall can let me know the price
Where can I get the fuel rail removal tool?? Do I really need it ??
Autozone
That’s A LOT😮
low numbers
boost junkie for a n/a 3v that's great
yea those are low numbers, best to just leave it alone. That is a hefty price tag for +35
with cai and sct 93 tune i make 302 at the wheel 1500 for 10hp LOL not great
I agree but 1/4 time is all that matters to me.
not worth the hassle
Can I just get the manifold? Or I need the cams to?
ferwifemen You can run just the intake manifold if you'd like. -Landan
what wheels?!
Can these cams be used in the 2010 Explorer. 4.6 3v?
David - I have personally installed these cams into a 4.6L 3-valve Mustang and 5.4L 3-valve F-150. Seems to me that they would work in a 4.6L 3V Explorer. Unfortunately, I don't have a definitive answer for you. Hope this helps! -Landan
Late Model Restoration
I installed the FRPP Hot Rod Cams and the Black Laser Etched Ford Racing Valve Covers in my 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Adrenalin 4.6 3v, along with equal length shorty Headers a full true custom Dual exhaust with an x pipe, and Dual 2008 GT 500 mufflers, looks and sounds awesome, and looks like it came from the factory with the duals out the back
David, see my post
Why do you say "for an automatic car"?
Because autos put let power to the wheels than manuals.
+KartKing4ever How much less power exactly? This car had 315 to the rear wheel,If it was manual what would the horsepower be ?
+Juan Beltran Manuals usually experience ~15% drivetrain loss, Autos, closer to 20%. These figures can be improved by cutting out rotational mass in drivetrain components, ie: lightweight driveshaft, lighter internals and rotating assembly, lighter flywheels... even lighter wheels can help get that power to the ground. The less your engine needs to work to move all these things, the more power is available to put to the ground and move you forward.
@@garibay711cod aprox , like 362 hp
Offer anything like this for the 3v 5.4?
These camshafts will fit a 5.4 3-valve. -Landan
+ghunt81 What video is this Im interested ?
No video, it's an article. Go on google, type in "4.6 3v intake manifold dyno", look for the one titled "three's a crowd"
Ok thanks bro
Because I have this mani lol
For a medium experienced mechanic how long will it take to remove and reinstall just the intake manifold?
just take the day off. expect to be in the garage for quite a while. these things never go as planned and you always lose a bolt or two and end up spending 30 minutes looking for the damn thing. or other little mishaps may happen. so its best to just give it a day in the garage. now if you have someone helping you that knows that they are doing id say a couple hours.
Daniel Diaz , ended up getting it removed at a workshop, took around 4 hours including repairing the heater lines
Can you put racing cams on a non gt?
Yes however, this cam will not work. I'd search LMR.com or SummitRacing.com for parts, starting at LMR.
The camshaft is responsible for the lifting of the valves, so obviously no since this cam shaft is designed for the 4.6 V8 (24 valves).
what side louvers are those? I want them.
Meep SHR flush mount louvers
Michael Saull thanks mann
All these negative comments makes me want to be a g8 owner. That's too much money for thay small bump in performance.
Will this fit a 5.4l tho
Oscar, according to Ford Performance these do fit 5.4L V8's ford.to/2LIYJgi
Lol @ "Not bad for an automatic car". The old myth that manual transmissions magically make the same engine faster.
Joseph Bentley its proven with these cars the 5 speed for a fact makes more on the dyno
haterget1nb3ast yes a manual transmission has less drivetrain loss than an automatic because there is less components in a manual transmission to get the crank hp/torque to the rear wheels
Joseph Bentley Manual Tranny doesn't make a car faster, it makes it fun to drive!
Automatic is oh, so fun to drive.... *rolls my eyes* If you want an auto just get a 4cylinder grocery getter.
@@denniss4951 till my auto schools all over any manual in its class, gotta Ratchet shifter with shift kit and 3:7 gear full built forged internals hot rod cam N/A 11.31 @ 126 making close to 500 to the wheel
What does s197 mean?
+joseph ojea It's Ford's internal nickname for this generation of Mustang. The nicknames loosely reference the chassis and drivetrain setup. For example: 1979-1993: "Fox", 1994-1998: "SN95", 1999-2004: still SN95, but received the new nickname "New Edge" because of the redesigned panels ("New Edge" wasn't an official Ford nickname), 2005-2014: "S197", and 2015-Present: "S550".
but look at the low end drop off yeesh
my car would not stall out
This is very disappointing. Together all these cost money and there is no "bang" for your buck with this setup. I have no idea which direction to go for my auto S197.
Drop a 5.0 coyote in it.
Christian Wartluft I'm not sure what I'd do. I may just throw on a few bolt-ons and find a 90' fox body to fix up.
Intake manifold and cams should be supported with aftermarket exhaust setup (Longtubes).. Otherwise those numbers are bottlenecked.
it is very difficult with out these tools...better go to a mechanic..
This 4.6 L is not worth the money to build up. Pull it and drop in a 408W Stroker.
can i do the same setup on a daily driver ?
