Ferrari SF-24 technical updates work and there is more potential than what was seen in F1 Imola GP
Good news for Scuderia Ferrari: the technical updates on the SF-24 single-seater have proven effective. However, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend left a bittersweet taste due to an underwhelming qualifying session. Although Ferrari has narrowed the gap to Red Bull to just a tenth of a second per lap, McLaren managed to occupy that slim margin. Charles Leclerc expressed his frustration over the missed opportunity in the seventh round of the 2024 Formula 1 championship.
Leclerc's demeanor at the end of the Imola race was telling. Despite achieving his first podium finish at Imola and climbing to second in the overall Drivers' standings, his smile was subdued. Only the fervent support of the tens of thousands of tifosi elicited a genuine smile from him on the podium. The Monegasque driver finished the race seven seconds behind Max Verstappen, underscoring his sense of a missed opportunity, especially starting with a crucial qualifying session that didn't go as planned for Ferrari.
The updates Ferrari brought to Imola met expectations, but another element-likely the hybrid strategy-affected the qualifying outcome. Both drivers and teams anticipated that the race would hinge on the start, and it did, particularly for the podium positions, as there was no Safety Car to shake things up. This added to Ferrari's regret, as a better qualifying performance might have led to a different result. While Ferrari has closed the gap to Red Bull, McLaren's improvements have positioned them slightly ahead of the SF-24 during critical race moments.
Leclerc emphasized that the race itself was positive, with Ferrari drawing closer to their rivals. He believed that a stronger qualifying performance could have yielded a more favorable result for the fans. Highlighting his stint on hard tires, Leclerc noted his excellent pace, which allowed him to gain on Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. Overall, he took many positives from the race, including the successful upgrades and increased competitiveness.

      its pretty much the same thing that happened to mclaren in miami. They were not good on the softs. But the race pace was there. charles was within a tenth of lando and max's race pace. Further optimizing it would definitely allow them to match mclaren and redbull.

    He seemed to be closing on the McLaren towards the end. And even when he was within DRS the other McLaren couldn’t catch or pass. Better tyre management is helping.

    Let's not forget that in Miami McLaren was not good in Quali but the best in race. It can be same for us here too. We also need at least three races to evaluate the upgrades. What if we go and win the Monaco GP. Then will you be saying the upgrades working?

      If the tyre deg is higher then forget being competitive. Monaco is not a place to measure the upgrades. They were competitive there even during their worst recent year of 2020

    so much for an Evo 2.0 that should allow Ferrari to fight for the win. as we've seen year after year, Ferrari are one of the worst team to bring good upgrades. embarrassing really.

      They are a textbook team who are rigid in their thoughts and approach. Their car can neither evolve nor adapt. At best you can expect a 0.1s improvement. With all the resources they have, their car literally sucks. Don’t be surprised if this upgrade reintroduces high tyre deg which is an Achilles heel for them.

    McLaren is betterin thyre deg now too, based on simulations in FP2. Seems that Miami repeat will come. I question why Ferrari indeed have brought small upgrade and alter than others. Look at Mclaren mega pack, whenever they upate its significant. 2 times in a row now.

    on another video, the guy said that during this test at Fiorano, Ferrari discovered a problem as they were overheating their tyres. so if that's true, we're back to 2023 then when they won't be able to race and will have to spend the entire race monitoring their tyre deg. i hope that's not true. Ferrari has got to be the worst team with it comes to upgrades. they're so frustrating

      the tyres used during the test in fiorano are a 'demo' version, so my hope is that these tyres are very different to the ones are being used in this championship

      ​​@@SasukeUchiha-ms3tti thought if you make big changes underneath, there must be changes made on the floor edge and bargeboard, since changing one thing in the floor can fully change the aero balance and there must be changes made in other parts to balance it out. I have seen pictures that indicate the roof of tunnel has been raised a bit, but nothing else.
