Why Ferrari SF-24 first major F1 aero update package is not a copy of Red Bull RB20 car

  • There was significant anticipation surrounding Friday's testing day at the Fiorano circuit for the Maranello team, and it's futile to deny it. Scuderia Ferrari was set to unveil their highly anticipated aerodynamic package, slated for official debut at the next round of the 2024 Formula 1 championship, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. In today's Formula 1 landscape, it's increasingly uncommon to witness current-year cars on track outside of race weekends, particularly with a specification not yet seen in the current World Championship, such as the SF-24, which hit the Fiorano circuit shortly after 9 am on Friday.
Upon its reveal last February, the SF-24 didn't astound with radical technical solutions, but it did adhere to a coherent car philosophy aimed at fully grasping the concept of full downwash in a streamlined yet efficient manner. Notably, the SF-24 represents Ferrari's inaugural use of this aerodynamic concept, in contrast to Red Bull, who have employed it since the inception of these new regulations. The Fiorano track validated the decisions made by the technical team under the guidance of Italian aerodynamicist and Technical Director Enrico Cardile, affirming their choices as sound, despite the contrasting aggressive approaches of teams like Aston Martin, which have struggled to shine thus far.
While Ferrari has comprehensively understood the launch specification package, the focus now shifts to significant developments aimed at challenging Red Bull and McLaren. Notably, with the initial evolution package, Ferrari aimed to progress within the natural development trajectory of the 2024 Formula 1 project, avoiding revolutionary changes or blatant mimicry of rivals, but instead raising the bar in terms of developmental aggression and innovative solutions. The SF-24 has already proven its prowess on track, demonstrating both speed and competitiveness, even in races like the Miami Grand Prix where the car lacked updates. However, McLaren's notable advancement in Miami underscores the necessity for Ferrari to maintain pace, especially with Red Bull poised to introduce new elements at Imola. To ensure the SF-24 remains competitive, it's imperative to implement the first aerodynamic update package, unlocking further potential for a car that had somewhat stagnated due to complete understanding of the Launch Spec package.

@@SasukeUchiha-ms3tti thought if you make big changes underneath, there must be changes made on the floor edge and bargeboard, since changing one thing in the floor can fully change the aero balance and there must be changes made in other parts to balance it out. I have seen pictures that indicate the roof of tunnel has been raised a bit, but nothing else.
