Mercedes Are Done! | The Shakedown Podcast #69
Totally agree about young Mick not having the minerals and living off his dad’s name while other great drivers from F2 more deserving of a seat are pushed to the sidelines. HOWEVER - WTF over The Michael pushing Mika into early retirement. As I recall, the years that Mika had a competitive car that could win a championship, he took two WDC off Schumacher. Yes, 1999 was decided with the leg break but he was a Schumacher beater… a really great driver.
Man I do love F1, but on the heels of the Ricciardo thoughts. I think it is sad that we can't get any new f1 teams in and we have a handful of drivers that really should move on and give some of the other younger up and comers a chance.
I think Dani was right to leave RB, he needed to be number 1 and it wouldve been painfully clear in 2019 that he’d be number 2.
But is doohan aplines best upcoming junior driver ?
I wonder whether Gunther has a book to sell and a fledgling TV career to flog? He's like Jordan, the two of them are outside the tent getting urinated on. F1 has moved on, Gunther is a funny anecdote you now bring in every now again, from behind the counter where he is quietly cleaning the coffee cups, gazing adoringly at F1.
You don't go for dinner with you ex when your divorced do you. He made his bed now deal with it
Steiner is a mystery. A 5:10 career also-ran who never got even a 3rd place in 15 years as team principal. He's not wrong about Mick, though. 7:23
I feel sorry for Mick, it's reverse nepotism for him, yet no one ever considers that. Same with Bruno Senna. It's a hiding to nothing carrying a famous name let alone an F1 name. It's a separate thing to Lawrence and Lance Stroll, where you are arguably still in the Sport cause Daddy bought a team. Remember when he was cutting "his teeth" Mick raced under his mothers maiden name. The con's of the Schumacher name outweigh the pro's. Ask yourself, if Michael were well and able, would Mick be without a drive now? No way. The fact that Mick still drives, as a "competitive" Racer, rather than a multi-millionaire play boy weekender, says a lot. But he will always get nay Sayers, who can make a coherent argument against him, and that is why the name is a two edged sword.
Add Gwanyu Zhou to that list of drivers who don't deserve a seat on merit.
26:12 Peter: Question about Sergio Perez three place grid penalty for Spain!.... Sergio was told to avoid a saftey car of which Verstappen benefited, so the penalty should be a team penalty and both Carr's should take a three grid place drop ...... what do you think?
One day there will be a curve ball, when Cameron posts "F1 Can keep doing this!"
I’m afraid no driver could do well under gunther as he kept on constantly criticising their performance on the public stage, you don’t see any successful team boss doing that.
This is madness. If you actually take a look at Mic stint in F1 anyone with half a brain can see that he is a better driver than alot oof the current F1 line up. You forget just how bad the car was and he was still in the points Russel in 2019 was 19 place with 0 points rookie year 2020 he was 18 place with 2 points. In 2021 Russel was 15 place on the grid with 16 points. It took russel 3 seasons to do what Mic did in 2 seasons. Mic was 19 place on the grid with 0 points rookie year in 2021. In 2022 he was 16 place on the grid with 12 points. Russel points scoring did not elevate until he went to Mercedes at the time the in 2022 the 3rd best car on the grid. When Hulkenburge came in with much more than 10 seasons of experience in F1 he came in to a different Car a seriously different car. Your bias here is beyond the pale sir.
Guys... here we go again:-) They are the die hard Lewis Hamilton fans who just can't accept that their hero's golden days are behind him. Every time their hero is defeated in a fair manner ( 2021), the fans are busy looking for conspiracies and excuses for that loss! Let them take an example from Maximiliam who can simply put it into perspective soberly by simply saying "this time the safety car was in my favor so you can say that it is now even again" it is so easy to just tell the truth! Or as Maximiliam the other day said 'yeah yeah.. if this or that, who cares "Lando just won this race and done"
Love ya work mate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111
Last time i checked ralph is always spewing nonsense 😂
Without Lewis in 2021, Merc wouldnt have a whiff of that championship! It was disrespectful to be honest.
Mick Schumacher driving at Silverstone fighting with Max till the final corner of the final lap making Max go defensive is my lasting memory of him Take out the cost cap... those 4 big crashes he had are understandable when you realise that car shared the same backend as the Ferrari. The same one even ferrari struggled with...
Magnessun Bottas and Zhou seem missing in your list of 4.... Let's make them the undesirable 7...
If you had 2 years in F1 and didn't impress you had your shot. There many drivers that impressed with less.
Isn't it strange that Lewis 's troubles came after he announced he stands with Palestine. Just saying.
Could never be as good as his dad. The Michael had unlimited track time
Mick would be a decent F1 pick if the top 50 drivers in the world retired
F1: you need to make the cars lighter Also F1: you need to have bigger, heavier batteries. Silly.
Nonsense!!! Mercedes are sabotaging Lewis car to mask his performance and undermine him. Mr Peter with all due respect, I don't think you can say for sure that Merc aren't sabotaging him,all you can do is speculate really ,you don't know for sure.Mercedes are butt hurt because Lewis chose to leave the team for Ferrari and they will do everything they can to screw Lewis this whole season and Mercedes are just as corrupt as Red bull.
Yeah and they gave Max a disadvantage again After the c…up with the safetycar in Miami the timing of the DRS was questionable
F1 is not about fairness. Period. Its about money.
Brilliant! Well said.
I recently listened to the entire radio conversation involving Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. Here is the conversation between him and Bono. Just before the last pit stop, Bono asked Lewis to BOX and suggested hard tires "IF HE IS OKAY WITH THAT". Hamilton said, "How long was there to go? Why would you put hards on?" Bono said, "It's all we have left, and we have 16 laps remaining." Lewis: "There are no softs?" Bono was hesitant in his speech and said, "Aaah, we think that would be too risky! A bit too far to go." Lewis: "We don't have another medium?" Bono: "Negative," "the hards don't look bad at all." Lewis: "If you think it's right, mate." Bono: "Yep. We've got a free stop, so we'll take it." If that is not sabotage from Mercedes, I don't know what is. They clearly did not want Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton overtaking Russell. As if the softs are not capable of doing 13 laps, let's even say 20 laps. I just can't wait for him to leave Mercedes now.
"I digress"... Yes, from reality fairly regularly.
Steiner is far more overrated than Mick. He's has several young drivers and ruined them all. He clearly has no idea how to manage people.
What Peter described is the WNBA
Just listened to the first 23 minutes (that I missed on the live) where you answered my convergence question. Quite hilarious you answered it at about 21 minutes and I come on when you concluded. But I figured as much that was happening...and I think I've heard that rumor about Newey stating something similar. The RB19 was probably so perfect that at some point Max was just completely busting out the competitiveness of last season and all the teams just did a write-off for '23. That's why with a limitative exception of McLaren nobody was closing gaps in '23. But I think teams were aware and possibly you have to see the "upgrades being downgrades" remark from Allison in that light. It perhaps was a bit of a cheap shot (which Allison after the race had to eat in almost Acme Labs kind of style with "at least our downgrades beat their upgrades"), but in broader sense: If Red Bull is at the top of the mountain and there is no bigger mountain on the horizon, then other teams will crawl to that point as well and thus: convergence.
Mick was put in a beginners car under a moron of a team boss, who only cared about his Netflix personality. I am not saying Mick should get a second chance, but telling he lacks talent for F1 is pretty too much. He does have 12 F1 points in that stupid Haas car.
Very good shout
LH made too much mistakes. Merc best setup of everyone in Canada
For, at least, two times you have confuse Ferrari with the Brabham-Alfa Romeo... 😉
Mercedes made LH champion 6 times but every time things don't go his way he starts blaming others. He suggested the team supported Rosberg and sabotaged him and now he leaves the team when the car is not the fastest. Who's betraying who? He jumps teams in hopes to get the fastest car and drive from pole to first each race. Look at his performance without the fastest car and look at MSC's performance with a slow car - it's night and day. He's good but only in certain conditions.
A Black Rocket with the Prancing Horse on the Side ,,,, YES !!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Ferrari is red and let that be final
Blasphemy!!....a ferrari can be any color, as long as it's red. 🤩
Yes indeed. All that woke BLM stuff has done nothing more than creating an even greater divide
Legend
You forgot to me tion kevin, ocon and zhou.
Kevin 100pc!
Should there be another division between F2 and F1. I think the gap between them is huge and some can’t grasp the difference in power speed grip etc. I think Mick would benefit from this gap bridge series
There is. It's called super formula
The teams are happy with the stays quo… the fans are bored of justifying why Checo has the second best seat in the game
Yes, he is looking for a 3rd chance while others are waiting for the first chance with even better prospects.
