Marko said no to Sainz not because of Carlos. It was because of the entourage of Carlos. They are very “present” and with quit a pose. Max has his dad present for a race or 6-7 a year, but Carlos’ pose is huge and they are there always and very “present”. Even during quali and the race
You've said this well. Every time I see his (I believe) his nephew on screen, filling the space with his aura and being everywhere on the place, I feel sorry for the mechanics and team management.
Lando's a good guy at heart, but he doesn't possess the grit to win championships consistently. Can he win one, sure, but he only does well when he's far in the lead and the race start goes well. Wheel to wheel he has a lot to learn mentally not to be bullied on track.
Good as Carlos is, i dont think he works well next to Max simply because Carlos is not interested in being a number two, he commands high salary and the team is clear that they are built around Max as their lead driver. The one team leader approach would soon be strained by tensions. And regarding Yuki, I fear people over play this idea that he has this massive fan base. In fact dare I say the majority ppl speaking now, couldn't be bothered about him last couple of seasons. They are probably more driven by their full-time criticism of Redbull and it's leadership. They just wanted something to hate on.
As far as I understand things Red Bull hasn'y made an offer to Sainz due to Sainz not wanting the second seat. Sainz was only willing to become a Red Bull driver when Max was leaving.
Mr Windsor, ever been tempted to contact Viaplay or Netflix to make a fantastic series about the history of F1? You know have so much to talk about and I would be the first to watch
All the Brits are just bashing on McLaren because it’s being run by an American, and many Brits “fancy” themselves superior and unable to accept Brown is leading them to incredible success.
@adampetten5349 blowing multiple starts while on pole and failing to win in the fastest car by far or getting passed by his more aggressive teammate and failing to win. He was on pole a bunch and choked. Compare to Max who delivers wins from pole or wins from in the pack regularly and overachieves. Lando is fast but a choke artist when it matters
@@jasongibson3574 Overaggressive Oscar and Max. He was well past the start on many of those occasions. Oscar shouldn't have been trying that ham fisted attempt at Monza on anyone with Constructors at stake. The gearbox also caused one lost Pole. Oscar and Lando both had wheelspin issues at another race. There were a few races where the absolute Fantastic drivers of the big Seven- Checo was not there- were better. Peter really should talk about aero grip as well as mechanical grip. Higher min speed is more aero load + flatter car (less pitch) from more sympathetic breaking best for ground effect
Wrong way round. I think Norris owes McLaren an apology. The car was capable of winning the WDC and Norris bottled it. When you’re battling for a championship you need to be clear and strong and confident and decisive and someone the team can rally around. And Norris seemed incapable of motivating the team to believe in him and also relied too much on the team instead of taking matters into his own hands when it came to strategy etc. Lando has never seemed like a champion in waiting. He seems like an upper midfield driver who’s out of his depth at the front of the grid. As I believe there’s a saying that goes: “champions act like champions, before they become champions”. And Lando doesn’t seem like a champion or act like one.
@ By being a clear and effective team leader. That the team can trust and rally around and look to for motivation and guidance. Norris did none of that.
@ Nope. When teams are having a tough season they look to their lead driver for encouragement as they’re the standard-bearer of the team. As if the mechanics and engineers etc didn’t look to Lewis or Max or Schumacher etc when they’re having a tough season.
I watched this for 5 seconds and unfortunately I had to stop. I've had enough of this old relic and his Lando histrionics. I've had to stop listening to Peter in the past few months because the old bastard just can't let it go.
Lando and George over Charles is criminal this season is criminal. Peter’s point about comparing Charles to Carlos is actually funny considering Ferrari made the car much more towards Carlos’ liking in the past 2 seasons. He gives Lando more credit for beating Oscar who fell off sharply towards this season in the fastest car on the grid and only winning 4 races and George who was battling Lewis who checked out mentally before the season even started than he gives Charles who was going against Carlos who was driving all out this season
Real shame for PW to perpetuate the “Yuki is too emotional” line like it’s still 2021. Has Yuki ever flipped off another racer during a live session? Especially from an affiliated team? Yuki will always have more to prove his doubters
Yes Peter is right; McLaren were so desperate for the constructors championship win after sucking so hard for so many years that they lost the drivers championship for Lando
Windsor still crying about Lando Lol. Lando should apologise to McLaren for being a bottle merchant. Windsor thinks Ricciardo should still be at McLaren. Lol. Looking forward to his bleating when Piastri beats Norris next year.
I see your point. Norris bottled it to many times. So the team can't put all the card in his account. They have to play fair and let Piastri also grow. But i think next year Lando will still beat Piastri on the hole season... My opinion
@@hotdiggityd what flaws? Peter downplays significante of having two great drivers on the top team while praising Carlos in Ferrari at the same time. He's just mad at McL for not playing favourite for the Brit even though it would have been detrimental to the team. Lando is a lot like the Honey Badger; he is a nice guy, but he doesn't seem to have the desire to win. It doesn't have to be at the level of the Red Baron (or Senna or Verstappen)
fault of drivers forcing him to avoid accidents. Oscar shouldn't have tried as risky a move as he did in Monza on Sir Lewis or Charles let alone a teammate. He's not going to be the finished article competing in the Upper Midfield for his career. 35 year old Hill made more mistakes in 1995...but Williams made even more. Brawn made Williams strategists look silly. McLaren strategists were also somewhat wanting.
I’m surprised Peter still harps on the “Yuki screams and shouts a lot” narrative. That’s something Yuki barely shows at all especially in 2023-24, he’s been super calm over the radio, a real team player and leader for Vcarb, everyone loves him in that team and his feedback is also nice. This 2021 narrative is just tiring to hear

Lando should be thankful for such a great car and blame himself for not doing more with it. He choked on multiple occasions
No kidding. He seems to use the press pit as talk therapy. Full of self doubt and blame. Not the lion Max sees in the mirror.
