Lord Bless Bud/Guru & his surgeons hands during this surgery! Amen! Mrs. Guru/cam wife, you were on top of your comedy game this episode 👍😁! Blessings All, Paul from South Central Tx.
Thats not comedy... that is just the way she is.
i,ve had both of mine done piece of cake if you have a great surgeon never saw inside of a sb im quincy man cant stop them
I agree the Quincy is the BEST recip on the market/Planet.
Thanks for the video. I have been searching for a teardown video of a SB 705. Most the ones I have found are not that great quality wise. This is probably the best one so far. Good luck with your surgery.
This pump is going to be rebuilt. I will do a series on it. also I just bought a new bore scope that I am going to show the inside of the next tear down and how tight it is in the crank case.
My father told me once , if you take any pressure vessel. Tire , air tank , even a propane cylinder think about the PSI. That pressure is at every square inch inside. He would say. How many postage stamps could stick on the inside of that vessel ? Kind of spooky when you look at it that way
DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE PACKAGING. SAVE YOUR MONEY! I bought the 18400 Titan snap ring pliers for $21.99 on the road because my wheel bearing went out on the driver's side. They are junk. The removable arms won't tighten down with the side screw. They now fall out. The base of the arms after a few hours are so loose that when I attempt to open the snap ring by squeezing the handles it fails. I should have just thrown the money in the trash. I broke down on the side of the road and needed the pliers to do what Titan advertised. It is the worst tool I have ever had in my hand. The host says Chinese made tools sometimes get a bad rap. My situation and now the experience with this line of tools is the perfect example of good money is wasted on bad consumer products. I am in a bad situation and needed something reliable to repair my truck. It wasn't Titan Tools that I could count on to help. They only added to my frustration with a disappointing product.
I agree the reversible snap ring pliers do NOT work well. In general the Titan tool brand works as advertised. I found 1 other tool that doesn't work well and I will be doing a follow up episode on both tools. thank you for your honest opinion.
when we do the review on those tools we will take this video down.
Hi Guru I just rebuilt a IR Model 3000 30T with new rods and everything. Ran fine for about 2 hours then started knocking and had broke a brand new rod. What do you think would have caused that ?
Hi Daryl. I can only guess at some things... 1 you may have got a defective rod, highly unlikely. 2 you didn't put oil or put the wrong oil in the pump or didn't put enough oil in the pump. 3 you didn't inspect the fit of either the rod to crankshaft or wrist pin, I have never seen this with new parts. I would contact the supplier and ask their service department. if they do not have a service department contact me through thecompressorguru.com we can walk you through rebuilds with youtube and our personal direction. good luck Bud
Very helpful video, even more helpful over the phone. Highly recommend the Guru's service and store.
Our pleasure!
Thanks Bud
Serious question - I have looked up many videos of tanks exploding. And all the failures I have seen have happened to sideways sitting tanks. Tanks that have the seam welded along the bottom. Do you think there is anything to that? I have not seen one of these failures on an upright tank. Not saying it doesn't happen. It just appears to happen more to sideways tanks.
Very Good Question. Just a guess 1 reason is most tank failures are on cheaper non coded tanks. they are usually horizontal. 2 the vertical tanks have a dished bottom and ALL water is in the dish. and drained more easily . in addition there are no welds on the tank till you get to the straight side of the tank, also I have to wonder when the bottoms are formed do they start with thicker steel because they are going to be stretched?? Really good question.
@@THECompressorGuru Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. I agree with everything you said. And I wonder about the thicker steel as well. I have searched again and cannot find an upright failure online. I will keep searching. I like to see what the rip looks like if I can find one.
@@THECompressorGuru I wanted to come back and add to this. I just got an upright replacement for my old rig. I am going to take a camera to the insides and document it as it ages. I will compile the information.
@@PopCultureDefector Let me knw how that goes. in the future it may make a great video.

I have my compressor drain valve constantly slowly hissing. Has been for decades, never has water in it.
They rust best from within
Always delivering great knowledge.
Upsell those customers to an electronic drain who are negligent in draining daily. I do it all the time in hospitals and office buildings and customers/engineers love not having manually drain tank.
That's a great list! Have a great Christmas Bud & family!
Merry Christmas!!!
Thanks for all you do and have a Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas!
Bud & Val -- Merry Christmas!
Right Back at you. Merry Christmas.
I use a large 4500psi compressor for my pcp Airguns and I always wonder if that compressor ever gernades or my 4500psi 98CF carbon fiber air tank ever exploded what kind of damage would that do, probably be catastrophic
The thumbnail looks like the mouth of a deadly alien worm from a sci-fi movie. And deadly it is.
how would the LOS be wired in a single phase system?? In series with contacts 1 and 2?
contact me through thecompressorguru.com I would be glad to have the electric guru send you a diagram .
Also, if your butt crack is showing, you need to tighten up your belt.
LOL
How tight should it be? An idea of the downward deflection of the belt with a certain pressure might be helpful. I know what too loose is but how tight is tight enough is bit more difficult to determine.
that is a great question. I have an actual belt tension measuring tool.... i think , i have not used it in years. the idea of deflection also has to be measured in weight. so if it a 1/2 inch deflection is it with 1 pound of weight or 30 lbs of weight. that is why I am recommending the car alternator belt as the example. see link www.midstatetool.com/buy/product/ot6673-universal-belt-tension-gauge-bosch-automotive-service-solutions/CLENC26f47740b25453a0?text=OT6673-Universal&lsi=true
Merry Christmas Bud! Your comparison of compressor belt tension to a car alternator belt should be helpful. Anyone can open their hood - poke the belt, then compare it to their compressor! Easy peasy
merry christmas to you all keep the air moveing
You helped me with this problem a year ago, and your absolutely correct, always check your belts making sure there adjusted properly Thanks again Bud 👍🏻🙏 Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!
Good info. If belts run to loose long enough, the motor pulley gets polished smooth causing belts to slip even more.
I have seen pulleys wear so bad that the sides that should match the V belt. the actually where rounded side walls. and yes the were slipping!
I have a question, What do you think about putting fuel tank sealer paint inside the tank. (Not to seal leaks )But for a coating or barrier to prevent moisture contacting bare metal inside the tank. I was looking at product that had a rust inhibitor and moisture barrier. I haven't done it to mine. I was just wondering if anyone out there has or if it's a bad idea and why. Cheers
this has come up before. I think at least use something like extendo from permetex and get the bottom coated.
@@THECompressorGuru thank you I'll look into it. Do you think it's a bad idea?
Not a bad idea. You may never know.if it helped, if the tank never rust out... it probably helps and will not hurt.
@@the-trolling-mechanic no its a good idea. it can't hurt it can only help. I answed from my phone under bud stiner

Thankful for family and a 1965 Broom & Wade compressor made in England. Built like a tank and still going strong.
at 6:13 "well you know I was raised in a middle class household"
lol
Thanks for the info I am reding my compressor and did a hydro test 150 percent of the working pressure and it held so I think I should be good.
Thanks alot Bud, you always share great information. Appreciate that 👍🏻🙏
Thanks for the video! Great explanation about oil break down - I have many end users that don't understand the importance of oil changes. I beleive it's not only for the breakdown of the oil itself, but also, depending on the environment, to water/moisture in the oil. Compressors with low hours that don't run a lot never seem to get up to temperature enough to get rid of the water. SO I recommend at least yearly regardless of the hours. Have a great Thanksgiving!
you are absolutely correct. I have several customers with IR 2545s that get very little use and they are pron of condensation water in the oil.
Great information . I always change my compressor oil every 6 months , weather it needs it or not . I've seen people not change it for years .
Thanks for sharing 👍
What would you recommend to the DIY homeowner for a NEW small air compressor? This is for light duty home use....filling tires, blowing off the lawn mower, etc. (no air tools).
I don't like the big box stores... but for your needs a lower kobalt pancake compressor. I am going to Lowe's shortly to get a water filter. I may follow up with this I will take a look.
Almost all the small compressors I've looked at are made in China, which I try to avoid for several reasons. I like the California Air Tools 4710SQ because of the size, form factor and it's quiet. I was just wondering...if my only choice is to buy made in China...if you think any brands are better quality/reputation.
if you go with the California air 1 let me know how it works and where its made. I was just a lowes and they had 6, 6 gal pancake compressors under $200. for your needs I am guessing that any of those would work. those are usually bought by roofing contractors they use them for a couple seasons and throw them out and get a new 1.
OK, thanks for your input. The 4710SQ is made in China. The size/shape is perfect for a specific location in my small garage, where a pancake model is too deep. It should be fine for my light-duty use. I know there are better made in USA compressors out there, but they are higher-end overkill for my needs.
At 22:05, How do you remove that style of wrist pin on the high pressure piston? does it have pin plugs on the ends? That's what mine looks like and I don't want to cause damage when trying to remove the pin.
No it does not have end plugs. There are 2 different ways Quincy does pin retention. 1 the old style has a screw in from the bottom with a cotter pin. 2 the new style has a snap ring in the pin boss hole, each end. Let me know if I can help.
Volume of a cylinder = 2*pi*radius^2*height
The problem was figuring the extra volume of the curved ends.thanks for the input.
👍🏻🙏
Excellent information. You are a good man and very wise.
Don't start a rumor about me being wise.
I was always told that you’re not supposed to press bearings from the Outer race. Also, I think you may have got those bearings a little bit too hot. Should they really be brown? ?
as for the brown I think that was stain from the oil going discolored as the oil got hot.. it doesn't show it well but the old wrist pin I used to do the pressing is very thick and just barely fit over the shaft.
4:15 sounds like you had some stored energy of your own.😂😂😂
i never noticed the pause lol
Val….you are a treasure 🎉. Thank you Bud for sharing the details. Love learning.
she is
I love the way you use example to show how much energy can be stored in these tanks. Many take it for granted.
Thanks 🙏👍🏻
The LOLS ...Low Oil Level Switch. Sometime you should show how the switch is installed, adjusted and tested. There are 3 allen head screws around the outside of the cover to make that process easy.
I didn't want to go down tat road in this video. I didn't trust the switch.
