It's nice to see the "heavy iron" 15T rebuild series Bud ! Thanks for all the hard work you all put into this great channel ! Blessings in Christ! Paul from S. Central Tx.
I enjoy seeing you work on some of the larger compressors. Not really a fan of IR compressors but anyway….. I was just wondering about putting the fasteners in without any lubrication and how that affects the torque of the fastener. Is that how the IR compressors are assembled in the factory ? Just curious. I have always thought it was better to use some type of oil or assembly lube when putting anything together that needed to be torqued. Maybe I just remember when I worked as an engine builder in a speed shop but I know your not building a racing engine. Just curious. Keep up the great videos and thanks again. God bless.
so lube on bolt is used sometimes but its usually called for in the part or service books. with many newer compressors the use for head and valve cover gaskets a graphine type material for the gasket which is very delicate and can not be contaminated with oil. that is not the case with this 15T but the spec sheet does not specify wet or dry torque.
Would you have that weird fitting for the harbor freight compressor that used to carry 5hp? Everything I read or watch says 3/4 JIS thread pitch. Which don’t make sense if if it’s Japanese why is it 3/4 inch? Anyway I have some Quincy valve plates if you are interested in them it’s just way to hard for me to get Quincy parts anymore.
@THE Compressor Guru i have a Quincy 310 ROC 14. It's slow to build pressure. Can you tell me how to diagnose if it's valve related or piston ring related.? I'm puzzled
Boy that looks like a cast iron monstrosity ! It must weigh a young ton . Very interesting to see how it goes together . Thank you .
good stuff
