    I have as much confidence in that rivetted tank as I do in a recreational blood transfusion in Haiti. Great info, as always.

    Nice video Bud! You and I spoke for probably an hour or so last year about an old type 30 T7 IR on an 80 gallon John Woods horizontal tank that failed my hydro test. I believe the rest of the unit to be in pretty darn good shape though I haven't begun disassembling it yet to check things out internally. I wasn't sure if my client was serious about moving forward with getting a tank, but low and behold we just received a brand new 80 gallon Morganton horizontal tank, so I look forward to beginning this project of dismantling, inspecting and reassembling it all to the new tank! I hope you're healing well and I'm certain I'll be in touch if I need parts etc. since I'm just down here in Harrisburg. This was manufactured in 1972, a 7.5 3 phase unit to be used in my client's commercial warehouse / garage.
    It was a $350 FB Marketplace purchase.

      I remember you. in the near future we have 2 IR 15Ts which are very similar. but we have been so swamped. I am doing very well. cancer free and healed well.looking forward to hearing from you.

    Right on, excellent info. Guru!
    A friend bought a new 60gal. vertical Quincy 2 cyl. single stage from Lowes. It blew the head gasket & he couldn't find one, so he made one & it blew again. I took pics. of data plates, serial #'s etc. & called the S.Tex. regional Quincy repair & parts shop. The seasoned parts guy said he had no such serial #'s in all of his books, & thus no parts!
    Pump was from Italy & looked nothing like a genuine classic QT or QR pump, I think.
    Even Quincy allows their name & logo to be put on cheapie air comps.! Buyer beware & educate yourself! Thanks Guru! Paul from S. Central Tx.

      that is odd. many times some one will take a quincey and put their name on it. Linclon compressors I have seen have always been a quincey.

    Keep up the good work Bud. I bought a Saylor Beall model 9000 on a 200 gallon tank, from a surplus facility in Ohio. Paid $1,299 for the compressor but didn’t know if there was anything wrong with it or not. I lucked out on that purchase as the compressor was in excellent condition and makes tons of air. It was a big gamble but it paid off.

    Great Info Bud, I'm very Happy with my Ingersoll I did change it from 3 phase and Installed new 7.5 hp Baldor single phase. Turns out the only problem with this unit it had a bad check valve. Thanks to you and your knowledge this unit runs and operates great . I payed $225.00 for it. Motor was more then that but still have very nice running compressor under a thousand bucks
    Thanks again Bud 👍🏻🙏

    Something to mention is even if you have three phase is be sure of your voltage. I have 240/120 three phase but it's becoming a thing of the past. My power company will now only give you 208/120 if you are doing a new service. Most used 3 phase industrial compressors have motors that can be wired for either 240/480 and they will overheat if you run them hard on 208.
    Also if you buy a used 3 phase compressor from a place that was running it on 480, although you can most likely change the motor to 240, the motor starter could be too small. When you are going from 480 to 240 you are having the voltage, but doubling the full load amperage.
    Also 120 psi sucks. Just because you have 120 at the tank, doesn't mean you have 120 at your tool when it's running

      lots of great points . and that is why for the Joe DIY guy I am trying to steer them away from the 3 PH.

    Thanks Bud, wish you would have made this video 6 months ago when I bought my Quincy 230. I sure wouldn't have put a bid on it😁. But that's water under the bridge. On a positive note it is up and running now mostly because of Bud's advice and parts.

    - [ ] Hello Guru! I noticed you had Kellogg American in your do not buy category. I was given a Kellogg 335TVX. Is there a specific issue I need to address before I put this pump into service? I did pull one of the valve covers and removed the valve, it literally looked brand new. Thanks for all the hard work that goes into these videos.

    • @THECompressorGuru
      @THECompressorGuru  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like Kellog compressors. the problem is they are out of business. the older models of your machine like the 321 the valves are hard to work on and are harder to get. parts for the 335 are out there some are Chinese and do not fit as well. I do have an American source for the 335 style and can get parts but its on the do not list because many people may not know what model they are getting and may not be able to get the better parts.

    But I have kept oil changed frequently and fresh air filters frequently

    I Know nothing about compressors, but you don't have to be a bloody genius to see that blue looks the nuts.... If put two wheel and a saddle on it and some biker would probably buy it. Thanks.

    I'm keeping my eye out for an aux tank, but there is a ton of sketchy out there. Including leaky tanks that can be repaired... Uh-huh...
    Hardest part about buying a compressor on Marketplace is loading and unloading. Few people selling used can handle something like a 60 gallon vertical or larger.

    No on 3phase? You do know vfd's exist.. right?

    • @THECompressorGuru

      that is another option but i was not going down this road without THE Electric Guru. But he will be back soon and we may go over the options in a future episode.

    • @joecummings1260
      @joecummings1260 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you get the compressor cheap enough sure. But your single phase amperage is going to be 1.73 times the motor nameplate full load amps, and VFDs aren't exactly cheap. Although they are way cheaper then when I first started seeing them in the 80's. First one I saw was the size of a cooler you would take camping for a 3 day weekend and it was only rated 5 HP

    • @avlawns3037
      @avlawns3037 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Times have vastly changed. I got a 10hp rated for 120 bucks and can run anything 3phase.

      When you hydro test normally you go %50 above the Max WP of the tank. 500 PSI is alot!!!

      If the tank data plate says tank is rated at 200 psi then 150% = 300 psi max! Fill with water & use a pressure washer & 400 or 500 psi rated gauge & sneak up on 300 psi, close the valve & inspect for leaks. Should hold for 30 min, no pressure drop.
      If you are filling tanks with 500 psi air or other gas, you may really end up being an april fool & darwin award recipient.
      Water thru a crack, split, or pinhole won't explode & launch the tank 40 ft. into the air, you'll just get wet. But air compressed into a tank desperately wants to rapidly expand/explode, peeling the tank wide open, ripping it off the floor & pipes,htearing thru wall, roofs, or whatever human is nearby! Look up exploding air compressor tanks on YT, its No joke! They Kill people every year!
