HS2 Chiltern bridges- Wendover Dean
Footage taken from Leather lane (overbridge) to footpath o/b TLE/2 and Bowood Lane overbridge.
The bridges look close to completion but i doubt they'll be opening to the public anytime soon. Also noting the land take - curious as to why so large!
This area is south of Wendover and north of the chiltern tunnel north portal.

Just over 2 months has passed and on the surface it appears not much has changed…! Work is more advanced north of Ellesborough Road, and south the utility diversion looks stll to be outstanding, but progress on a massive water drainage pond for the tunnel is taking shape. Not forgetting a new diversionary road has been built to connect Bacombe Lane with Ellesborough Road. North of Small Dean Vi...

HS2 Princes Risborough Line Overbridge
Interesting video, at 4:20 it looks like there is going to be a lot of digging necessary between the overbridge and viaduct. Also interesting to see a very gentle curve on the viaduct which is not apparent closer.
Yes it looks as if it will need to be a deep and narrow cutting.. looking in the distance at the alignment of small dean viaduct... Thanks for watching :)
Ha. At 0:42 centre left we can see Grim's Ditch coming in diagonally just in front of the pylon. HS2 were obliged to conserve as much of the ancient earthwork as possible and, judging by the slight bulge into what will become the cutting, it seems three or four metres extra of the ditch will live on for future generations of detectorists to scrabble around in. Nice footage, QM. Keep 'em coming ... 👍
there's a lot of earth to move.. where's it gonna go ?
Ah ok, i suppose all the earth excavated from around the tunnel portal area had to be relocated to somewhere close by. Thanks!
It'll all be used for embankments and landscaping.
looks like no segments on site as yet _ they've yet to start the concrete base _ if they do the same as at Chipping Wardon green tunnel _ looking forward to following your updates _ good footage as usual
Yes they seem a bit way off with the tunnel segments, hopefully in the coming months they’ll be some update. Thanks for watching. 👍
Am I right this is the last major work in the Chilterns?
In terms of structures - i think so, after the Wendover Dean & Small Dean viaducts. Though there is the small matter of the South Heath Cutting to reveal itself in due course!
Excellent clearance ! They done did it ! Excellent on-the-scene views. Massive works !!
Hi Carlos, they certainly have done it. Quite an achievement!! 👍
Stunning piece of work.
it's a big structure to move _ hoping you'll be keeping an eye on it over the coming months _ much happening with green tunnel segments yet up the track a way ? _ looking forward to seeing your next update _ enjoying
News reports suggest that’s the move completed. It was built at its completed length, and the four day closure just gone was the single push into position.
I'd read that they intended to push as full length structure as opposed to as they did up my way @ M6/M42 j8 sliproad north when they used an incremental method _ some excellent engineering by those involved
It seems these double composite structures enable a swift installation thereby minimising impacts to the general public. 👍
Thank you very interesting, why are they building a green tunnel instead of excavating a cutting in Wendover?
The very close proximity of the route to lots of houses. A green tunnel solves the visual impact and noise (trains at full pelt here).
Many years ago I worked on the Thameslink, when the original Kings Cross Thameslink was still open, and have walked the line from Moorgate to just north of the Bridge in this video. It's a fascinating line to have worked on, for example the track under the Barbican is mounted on a special noise attenuating system as the Barbican is so we were told sensitive in regards to vibration due to musical reasons.
Subscribed primarily due to that great footage of the Eurostar departing St. Pancras. Excellent video.
👍 It’s always nice to see Eurostar!
@@stevetony6876 ALWAYS!
This should stand the test of time. And I wouldn't mind it adopted as a template design for low viaducts everywhere
It won't happen because it would take away Architect's talents to practise their own ideas.
As long as the graffiti artists keep off it it will look good for decades
Graffiti artists do tend to use railway infrastructure as there’s a lot of it about…!
Lovely to see, and a fly under... over the water of the Grand Union Canal... congratulations...👍👍🫧...
It is rather nice to see - they’ve been working quickly here. 👍
Looks spectacular! The victorians would have been proud to build such a structure. Unlike today when every NIMBY or environmentalist wants to put a stop to everything! Now we need you to do a low level speed run along the whole length!
Impressive healing of the land by such landscaping.
Like the Millau bridge, very elegant. Brunel would have been delighted by those flat 'arches'.
How long before the graffiti arrives?
It’s an interesting thought but not so sure it will be a problem given the viaduct’s out of city ‘remote’ location.. 👍
Fantastic footage. With the vast majority of the temporary works gone it's looking so different.
Next step is to add tracks
St Pancras is the most beautiful building in London. And philistines wanted to demolish it in the 1960s.
Given the value of land around there one wonders why the enire cutting isnt decked over tbh.
I’m wondering the same thing
@toby.maximillianyes maybe in a future project that may be possible…
It would certainly make a beautiful restaurant/garden area…
Hi there. very complicated junction bridge with 4 roads at weird angles. caroline.
Hi Caroline I agree with you - I had to look at google maps to see what was there before! 👍
I love the way everything is so compact and you have narrow boats rubbing shoulders with Eurostars. So typically London. Pity you didn't have better weather
Yes where has the winter sunshine gone!? It’s a curious fact that the canal you refer to.. at the next door Kings Cross station, when they were building they avoided the canal by digging a tunnel underneath it!
Yes (it’s a shame Britain isn’t a thousand miles further south), -then it would be perfection! 👌
Great vlog.Thank you very much. Hopefully you will be able to show the end result so we can see how the roads join up again. Still enjoying your updates on the “naturalisation” of the Colne Valley Viaduct.
Thanks. I’ll try to get back again soon.👍
No wonder taxes are going through the roof with all the money wasted on this white elephant project. Ticket prices will remain high and nobody save a few rich bankers will use it.
Is if finished, and are you going to do a follow up video, please.
Might be noticeable but there are stretches of the line that are not even started
The stretches which require little or no civil engineering.
They can't start everything at once, it's done sequentially.
5 years to finish the track and Birmingham Curzon station, Washwood Heath, OOC, Interchange, and IMD. Probably 10 years from now to finish Euston station. No worries ! get it done ! Now we just have to wedge-in the full extension north to Crewe !!
Once again some noticeable progress if one looks in the right places. Lots of surface drainage works for example ready for the tracks through the surface platforms.
Im sure those OHLE masts are new on the frieght link down towards Acton Main line?
It’s quite possible they are - done during Christmas period when the gwr main line was closed. Thanks
They are fairly recent, been in progress a few months I believe, but the freight line was in use for GWR diversions into Euston during the Christmas GWML closure.
👍
Smooth footage 👍 New friend here, liked and subscribed 👍 Greetings 😁
Thanks 👍
So is that the big crane being dismantled? So big another crane is needed to help? The worst must be over for the residents even if it's another month before the new bridge opens fully.

I was lucky enough to be part of the team on this project, the best job I've ever worked on , the most amazing team 💪👍🏻👍🏻
I hope the residents are enjoying their Christmas break…
@johnturner4400 they were respected and helped in any way possible trust me 👍🏻
Alas it can’t be avoided when you buy a house next door to a railway.
@@tiny2243I can confirm this as I live on agar grove they did an amazing job
Thanks for posting yet again an amazing engineering job over Christmas. The Dedication to all the men who have given up their Christmas with their families to do this work is amazing. And that crawler crying is so interesting. It's huge but does such a lot of jobs. I wonder if they're going to pour a wet concrete slab over the top of the bridge..???...
Looks like the tracks are almost completely laid.
Great drone footage and amazing aerial view. 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing. Subbed and Liked.👍👍👍
Excellent series of videos and the drone views really give your a much better appreciation of how tight the site is and the logistics of this operation. Getting that crawler crane built and in a position is big task in itself as well. Thanks for braving the weather and doing the daily updates.
Thanks! We’ve been lucky with the dry settled weather. It would have been nice to see the huge beams being moved into place.. but it’s been interesting to see the progress. 👍
We’re at around 04 Mile to around the 14, OLE125 works… has we are hitting Mike stone after mile stone, we’re truly rooting for you guys… looks amazing … what a legacy … that’s what I always take away from sacrifice’s working away from hone … the legacy ….
Looking likely to reopen on time or near to it.
Thanks for posting these @cuemaster. For context, I don't think the description of "St Pancras International Station - bridge replacement" is quite right - St Pancras station is close to a mile away from this bridge - perhaps better to describe it as something like "St Pancras Midland Line Agar Rd overpass rebuild" - Thanks!
It’s turned out to be a more interesting subject than I had imagined! 🙏
No sound!
What's the name of the nearest street to this bridge?
The street name of the road that crosses the bridge is Agar Grove I believe, though with a couple more roads leading off it.
💷💷💷💷💷
Do you have to get permission to fly the drone?
It depends on the drone type I use so always best to check. The sub 250g drones are generally less restrictive. Thanks for watching. 👍
Impressive.
I really love that you include Eurostar trains in these videos leaving or departing St. Pancras. I love looking at that train from the air.
It’s quite impressive to see such long coach trains, 16 I think. I’d love to try Eurostar, perhaps next year! 👍
Those workers are on £3000 an hour each!!!! Supervisors £8000.... No wonder a 20bn project now estimated at 220 billion and rising
Haha unfortunately I don’t think the figures are publicly available though I could be wrong! Thanks for watching.
They really aren’t! 😂😂😂😂
I doubt it but they have worked through the holidays. I expect that comes at a premium.
@ I’m a train driver, I’m working both days but only getting double time.
Utter nonsense of course, even if it was HS2 which you seem to have this confused with. Still just another armchair expert in a social media echo chamber.
You could include the ambient sounds (but not a musical overlay).
That would be a great feature to have. 👍
@@1258-Eckhart I’m not sure the buzz of the drone motors would add to the scene.
They should build over that whole section (they might be already) to basically extend the tunnel
