  • Update on School End Overbridge near Chetwode, Buckinghamshire, a couple of kilometres north of the Godington Viaducts.
The bridge is at a fairly advanced stage of completion, as is the footpath accomodation overbridge 1km south of School End overbridge.
HS2 is the UK's newest high speed railway linking London to Birmingham and the north.
Trains are due to cross here in Buckinghamshire in the early 2030's.

When I photographed and filmed that portion of the route in January 2018 I dared not stray too far from the centre line to ensure that I captured the path of proposed destruction in every shot. I need not have worried. I can see here that the intervention has extended well out on either side and is just about nudging the end gable of the terraced cottages! Who would have thought it? Of course, skewing the road here and taking out that awkward junction at the south-east end of Chetwode and sweeping the road in a pretty curve will contribute enormously to the region

Thanks QM. Another huge custom bridge, this time with the rusty iron look! Makes the old GCR bridge look tiny, but that was generously proportioned for its time.

Hopefully the GCR bridge will survive as a monument to the second newest mainline to be built in the UK. Is that too much to ask? Hmm ...

Huge bridges giving the trains plenty of space… I wonder if HS1 bridges are of similar proportions? Thanks
