  • Situated west of Wendover in Buckinghamshire, UK, the length of the green tunnel length will be approx 1.2km.
North of Small Dean Viaduct, the tunnel slopes down beneath Bacombe Lane and Ellesborough Road skimming past Wendover, protecting the residents from any noise pollution... i think that's the reason.?!
Progress has been hindered here by complicated utilities diversions.
The temporary roadbridge at the beginning of the video is part of the Ellesborough Road diversion while the construction works take place, before reverting back to its original alignment.
HS2 is the UK's newest high speed railway linking London Euston to Birmingham (140km) and the north. High speed trains are due to cross through the Misbourne valley here in the early 2030's.

As someone viewing these videos from overseas it appears the environmental warriors are leading this project by the nose, regardless of the cost!

There appears to have been some real progress there at last. This is one of the green tunnels that is probably really needed and I think that it was held up for a long time for various reasons.

I agree here too at Wendover. No mitigation would be a blot on the landscape. 👍

Even as a huge advocate of HS2, some of the clips being posted at the moment are making me question some of the decisions that were made. It is becoming very apparent why the thing is costing such a ridiculous amount. Something like four times the cost per km of France, I think I read recently.

The thing is the French as an example direct the costs not directly associated with the build of the actual railway through different channels, so it's very difficult to do a direct per mile comparison. We just lump it all together. Even the trains are in the HS2 budget, in France SNCF fund them not the builder of the line.
The real question is is the mitigation worth the spend in it's own right, it's not an argument against the need for HS2.

Do we have other big infrastructure projects to compare it against in UK .. Crossrail, HS1? We tend not to meet the budget… 👍

I hear your concern. At the same time, I'm going to want to ride it, the first time I'm in Europe when it's all finished, and I'm sure a lot of people are going to benefit every day. I hope the UK manages to find a more efficient way to connect the people that were excited about the original vision.

@stevetony6876 Crossrail wasza totally different railway. The platform concourses and subway passageways to the underground stations were all excavated out by excavator accessed from the underground bored tunnels. And the later stages of work to the underground stations were all accessed by a vertical shaft constructed from street pavement level. Also the cost of thecunderground
