Reinsurance is actually a real thing. When natural or manmade disasters occur unpredictably, like a tornado, flood or terrorist attack, smaller insurers simply don't have the capital to deal with the payouts needed. Initially, insurers banded together to create mutual cooperatives to cover eachothers backs but eventually as companies merged and large banks looked at the problem, groups with larger deposits of capital set up the new business of reinsurance to cover very large insurance payout events. They typically cover expensive stuff like real estate, marine leisure and shipping, life insurance.

Apart from the publicly documented "balanced dice" algorithm, there is nothing else programmed in the code. The dice is random. There are no patterns in the random distribution of dice rolls. Let's get over it. This video was worth-watching and quite enjoyable. Personally I like 1v1 Catan a lot. I don't want to sound as being overly dismissive, because I'm not. (Spoiler) I'd love to know what made you turn down the Brick port. It makes your hand so much more flexible. If a 10 rolls you can contribute towards a settle, longest road, a city or a dev. Oh amd it triples the 9 which means if it rolls and you get robbed you can lose a Wood and still have a free card. By turning it down you're extending that same flexibility to a super high production player and your road competitor, but better since they have the 8-6 Brick. How did you evaluate your decision here?

*** SPOILERS *** Solution below My score (M) = 10 Total table score (T) = (10 + G + R + B) G > R > B My score is more than 50% (or half) of the total score of the table. M > (T/2) 10 > (T/2) Multiplying both sides by 2 gives: 20 > T or T < 20 We now have two different definitions for the total table score (T) that we can compare: T = (10 + G + R + B) and T < 20 Therefore: (10 + G + R + B) < 20 Subtracting 10 from both sides gives: G + R + B < 10 The minimum score possible in Catan is 2, so: B >= 2 If we assume Blue has 2 points, we get: G + R < 8 So Green and Red total 7 points or fewer. Because G > R > B; If B = 2, the lowest R and G could be are 3 & 4 respectively which, together with Blue (2), total 9 points. Only this combination fits the rules. If Blue were more than 2, the score would be equal to or higher than your score of 10. So the final scorecard is: Black = 10 Green = 4 Red = 3 Blue = 2

I would probably go for 10 9 11 and lock the wheat as first pick. Pairs great with any of the leftover 3 hex spots too. And Wheat is always valuable.

I kinda agree with hawkeye though... you shouldn't be dealing and scheming with the person that is winning! Rather, you can easily deal with the person in last because you want to bring him up while helping your game.

The bits where you retroactively explained your thought process around the plows was priceless lol and made a lot of sense. Not sure if it always works like that as sarp is the only player with the brick you are lacking and they only get it on the 3. I imagine he charges you a couple cards minimum. Nuq with 912 over you is very concerning but ultimately sarp trading a brick sets his game back. So its definitely tricky. I would still go by the logic that the 411 is just better for helping with a win condition. Its very clear with it you likely secure road throught he middle. Unless nuq just rolls perfectly to plow you again :P

pretty easy. Take all of pink's cards leaving 1 ore. With 4 wood and 4 brick, get longest road on the left. One road to brick port, 3 around 11 to ore port Settle on the brick port with 1 wood, 1 brick, 3 sheep Settle on ore port with 1 wood, 1 brick, 3 sheep use knight to rob last ore from pink city with 5 ore and 2 brick

But only have the Japanese version???

Nice puzzle, I also couldn't figure it out I did figure out that it needed to be LR, 2 settles and a city as you would not have enough to city twice.

Why do you build street and road for the second settlement? you can judt build a settlement without a road at the desert. Then you can reduce the cards by two.
