    Yeah, I was watching that game on King Of Catan's channel and I KNEW the minute you chose to settle on the Five Sheep that you were going to lose that game because you essentially traded your win condition away while BobTheBandit sinewed his. I agree connecting your roads was the play you needed to do then.
    I give you a lot of credit for openly admitting that was a mistake as I genuinely regard you as a great player and we all make mistakes and misreads. Thanks as always for your content! =)

    I'm seeing 2 more plays that could have been considered
    4. Connecting the roads to the south. This would leave fewer cards missing for the 8-4 settlement next turn, lowering the risk that brown can plow us. It is still a bad play, as it is not where we want our roads to go, and in the game it would have also resulted in a loss.
    5. Building 2 roads to the north but holding the YoP. This would leave more options for us on a later turn, while also securing the 8-4 spot and sabotaging Brown's road setup. Brown could sabotage us back, but only at the cost of 2 precious roads going nowhere. In hindsight, this would have probably been my preferred play.
    The obvious play I saw was 2., and in an unimportant game I would have definitely just gone for it. Sad to see that Brown managed to plow you with a double 6.

    Great video!
    Also, what about building two roads through the intersection without using the YoP? It prevents brown from building on the 8/4. Even if Brown cuts your roads between the 6/4, you still have the advantage 12 max roads vs 11 max roads for Brown

    • @HakunaMatataCatan
      @HakunaMatataCatan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Treeck, i thought about this as well but it is too risky in my opinion. If brown simply uses a 3rd and 4th road to go between the 9 and 3 hexes, my road is limited to 10 and he has these to spare. so now instead of just yopping to complete the connection, i may be put in a position to yop just to make sure i can get to 12 roads

      @@HakunaMatataCatan Well that's with him also expending 4 roads quite inefficiently, and it's not a 100% play

    In situations like these I think you should include prior card tracking because it has a huge effect on what brown can do and how likely he is to settle or city.
    I think considering building 2 roads to the 643 and not burning the YoP is a great option because you save the yop to potentially settle road settle, and you can still take road back if he indeed fights back, I think you have time for a road fight, especially with a yop in hand and 2 ports 2 strong cities.
    Great video nonetheless.

      Thanks Kozo :)
      Admittedly, that was the plan but too many 7s and Bob didnt remember the hand either. I played around it by saying he needed these rolls to do it, but youre right i think putting a visual to it and saying this is like 80% correct is probably the best way to go :)

    I think when bob built these 2 roads towards 5 sheep spot he realised that you need just road+settle to plow him. Maybe it was the trap by bob? Such easy way to plow and get +1 VP looks pretty tasty.

  • @lostinkbh
    @lostinkbh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Of course option 3 :)
    I don’t understand why you are afraid of using a YoP here. You have one secured settlement spot and a pretty save one at brick 11. You have great port options if your brick or wheat gets blocked. You don’t need YoP for anything else.
    Bob is done with that connection and only Swimmy remains as an opponent (and depending on his devs not even a strong one)

    Alternative title: OWS enthusiast baffled by needing to build roads when forced into longest road wincon.
    Happens to the best of us. Obviously not the worst, since they have been building 15 roads prior to getting 3 points anyway. :[

    Can I ask why you need to use YOP to get 3 roads when you could just connect them at the bottom with 2 roads and take longest road away?

    • @HakunaMatataCatan
      @HakunaMatataCatan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great Question! The reason why its important to connect over the top is because of 2 things:
      1) connecting at the bottom reduces our longest road max length and does not reduce Brown's longest road max length
      2) brown can still settle on the 8-4, so he can still road-road-settle (like he ended up doing) and this would cut our longest road and make us lose the spot

  • @MK-yg2np
    @MK-yg2np 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    6:41 browns Max road length should be 12 here I think. He can build one more road down at the 5 sheep
