Eadburh - Asser's Wicked Queen of Wessex
This is the story of Eadburh, the so-called "wicked" Queen of Wessex, prior to the rise of King Alfred the Great's family House.
Eadburh has a black reputation, but is it deserved? In this video we explore how Eadburh's influence may have extended to partially causing a rebellion against Alfred the Great's father in 858 AD.
It is said that it was primarily due to Eadburh's time as Queen of Wessex that the role of king's wife become relegated to just that, rather then 'Queen,' so what did this Queen of Wessex do? Find out with History Hub today!
To skip to the story of Eadburh herself, in Asser's words, go to 7:33.

Battle of Maldon (991 AD)
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The year is 991 AD and following years of Viking raids and political intrigue, Byrhtnoth - the Ealdorman of Essex - mustered his local men to make a stand against the present Norse menace that had sacked Folkstone and Ipswich and now coveted the prosperous town of Maldon. On 11th August, the Norse host led (most likely) by Olaf Tryggvason (future King of Norway) broke camp on their island base ...

Battle of Brunanburh 937 AD
มุมมอง 9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The Battle of Brunanburh is as deserving of recall as the iconic Battle of Hastings. Fought during the infancy of a united England, King Æthelstan (the first to take the title "King of the English" in 927 AD) fought a coalition of kings, with defeat spelling the possible breakup of the newly united kingdom of England. Æthelstan was the grandson of King Alfred the Great, conqueror of Danish York...

Another fantastic epic production, so glad I found your channel. I had always been curious about this period in our history which seemed to not garner as much as attention as they deserve. I remember discovering the Plantagenets and feeling the same. I am now binging on your awesome videos and watching over as so much information. You’ve brought these fascinating and important people alive, who I ashamedly had been ignorant of. Thank you for sharing and your hard work 😊🫡 You deserve a far bigger following and I hope you get that, algorithms can be weird at times.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. Unfortunately, I work alone and I earn a living from TH-cam so I can't really pour too much time into projects that get little return in terms of views, etc. Bad luck, I guess. Oh well. :) I've always loved medieval figures. The Plantagenets are favourites too, but it all started with me (i.e. historical interest) with getting into the 1066 era. :)

@@HistoryHubChannel I understand, you never know, things can change and I hope they go well for you 😊 It must be very time consuming to produce, the quality far exceeds the standard of TV docu. All round great production, packed with so much information but your script and narration really draws the viewer in. Very grateful to you 😊 I’m going to be watching them over and over 😂 Wishing you all the very best
