  • The year of 1066 was not just marked with one history-shifting battle, but three and with three principle claimants to the throne of England.
In this episode, we focus on the second of these and one of the bloodiest battles in English history, known today as the Battle of Stamford Bridge, which was fought on 25th September, 1066.
Previous Episode (The Battle of Fulford Gate): • The Battle of Fulford ...
This detailed video goes much further than merely focusing on the battle itself, but also charts the colorful life of one of the battle's principle commanders - King Harald Sigurdsson, better known as "Hardraada", and his eventual fall fighting the English forces near York under King Harold Godwinson, the brother of his ally Tostig.
Next in this series "The Year of Three Battles" will be the single most comprehensive video on the Battle of Hastings available on TH-cam, in which the focus will be on the life of Duke William of Normandy. A separate and epic video on the life of Harold Godwinson will be published sometime this year (2021) to compliment this series.

I hope you enjoy this extensive look into the life of King Harald Hardrada and the Battle of Stamford Bridge. If so, show the channel some love by liking and subbing to help History Hub grow. Next in the series will be the most comprehensive video on the Battle of Hastings on TH-cam, with a focus on the life of William, Duke of Normandy, leading up to the battle and beyond, so stay tuned for that. Later this year an even greater and epic biographical video will be published on the life and times of King Harold Godwinson himself.

What an epic life! At a time when commoners lived and died within 10 miles of their birthplace. Hardrada was truly a warrior explorer prince! Well done!

It's amazing that anyone survived back then with diseases, constant battles...yikes.
