Welcome and thanks for the view. If you enjoyed this biography on Ecgberht then consider dropping it a like and share it far and wide to every corner of the kingdom. :)
My favorite part of English history. Some much intrigue and turmoil. Well detailed and entertaining. Thank you for these fine videos. You've got my sub!
Thanks 😀 There should be a family tree video on all the kings from Egbert to Ethelred coming the video after next. Part of a larger series covering all the monarchs. Fingers crossed. 😃
Thanks so much for this great analysis. Could you say what the source is for Ecgberht's request for safe passage to Rome in 839, which you mention at about 9:30? I've occasionally heard this claim but never been able to source it. Any help appreciated!
As far as I can tell it's a county boundary stone that's famous because Alfred made it so as he rallied the fyrd to take on Guthrum, though I could be wrong as I'm certainly no historian, just an enthusiast.
You should watch Vikings, the actor who portrays king ecbehrt - Linus roache, does an incredible job. One of the most captivating rulers put to screen. Awesome show. Also if you like Alfred, the last kingdom on Netflix is great too. I watched both these shows consecutively and played valhalla, by the end you will feel like and expert of that short time period.

My pleasure. 👍
It’s always a good day when I get a history hub video. So much information. Thank you for your efforts.
I must be the only one who thinks the dialogue bubbles are hilarious!
“Do you too thirst for Anglo-Saxon blood and booty?” It was at that moment I realized that I’m not nearly as mature as I’d hoped I was.
Loved it! Thanks.
thanx

Where does Ecgbert's stone come into things?

Here for some AC Valhalla back story after learning about King Alfred.

Just traced my ancestry back to Ecgberht!

Echbert
Grandpa of the best King of Wessex.
Certainly was. ;D
Honestly Ecbert gave him the path.
There is no evidence in existence that states ecghbert went to Charlemagne. He went to Denmark. Gottland to be specific.
