    I also finished planting my tulips only a couple days ago. Life just happens, I guess 😅 Among all the tulips I am trying out this year, I also included Princess Irene, Ballerina, and the van Eijk ones... I can't wait...Especially since they say that Ballerina and Princess Irene are fragrant. Do you find that's the case?

    Lovely! I'm so jealous - we are below zero Farenheit here in Colorado🥶...one question - are you sure that's a Kansas peony? I have several, and they are all deep red, not pink. In any event, I am looking forward to seeing everything in your garden come alive over the next months! Happy gardening!

    Lovely - impressive that you can still plant tulip bulbs in your zone. In the US northeast (zone 6), the tulip bulbs need to be in the ground by November to allow roots to form, and get sufficient cold hours. Enjoyed seeing pictures of the expected blooms, as well as pictures of plants that surround them. Kudos to you and Richard for making such a great team.

      Yes, absolutely, but you could also plant them straight in to the ground. If you do plant them straight into the ground, remember to soak them for about an hour first to re-hydrate them. So sorry it's taken me so long to respond to your question - hope I'm not too late! 😊

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi 14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Kate, I'm not growing them this year but they should germinate at about 18°C and then I take them off the heat mat. I keep my seedling room at about 12°C and then I would only plant them out after my last frosts - for me, that would be late April. Hope this helps. 😊🌸

      Hi Monica, I think my cats help (!!) but also, we mulch over them and this probably helps too. In all honesty, we have more problems with badgers and foxes than squirrels. And the squirrels seem quite happy to raid the bird feeders so maybe that takes their focus? 😊

    Good morning Annette, good to see you back in the garden, it is just so satisfying to plant and later to see the results from all our efforts. I hope that all your efforts will be rewarded with a beautiful display of colour and fragrances from the flowers. I wrote a comment, but the Latin music got to me and I thought let me see if I can trace it, and without sending the message I lost it all!! What a dunce, I totally forgot there is no saving, a good lesson learned. Since the last video, we have been blessed with the most wonderful rain. Yesterday it rained to approximately 40 mls 26 during the night and in the morning another 20, and last night it came bucketing down, I will have to go and see what was delivered. It is so nice and fresh outside and we had to cut the grass right down to soil level, the sun had scorched it to death in certain areas, so to get it to recover that was the best solution and then the rains came, what a blessing, so all is not lost. There are always many challenges for gardeners, weather, bugs and fungus attacks. We can't win. Enjoy all the planting and planning, keep snug, it is cold outside. Kind regards.

      I totally agree, thank you. I have never planted yellow tulips before but these really did look pretty - I hope they live up to expectations! 😊

    Hi Annette! 👋🏼 So happy to see you planting tulips in mid-January. Gives me hope that I can still plant some more tulip bulbs that I didn’t get to back in November/December. I’m in zone 7B in the US. Going to pot them up in containers. Loved hearing the birds 🐦! Curious…what’s your average January temp?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, I have often had to plant tulips in January. They will flower but probably a few weeks later, which isn's a problem in my opinion, and then next year they will revert to flowering at their expected time. January can be mixed for us but I would say about 7°C, with near freezing temps at night. 😊

    Great video as always, Annette. I put all my tulips into pots this year as I m really fed up with the squirrels, voles and mice digging them up and eating/nibbling the shoots off. No sign of any shoots up yet, but the pots have remained safe. :-) The alliums, iris, crocus and narcissi are all up. No sign of the hyacinths yet! I'm getting so excited waiting for the spring display, I received my first ever order from SEH yesterday. So pleased with the quality of the plugs- much bigger than I anticipated. I have potted them on today. They are for my revamped border. I had delphiniums and monarda there, but sadly, last year i lost them. I think they may have got a bit dry. Maybe some of them will reshoot in the spring? Over time the border has become quite shady in the afternoon so I'm replanting with variegated hostas, ferns and Japanese anemones, whirlwind and lots of bulbs. The fosteriana group of tulip look gorgeous. I may treat myself to some this Autumn. Thank you for introducing them to us. Happy gardening 🙂 x

    When you say you will sow Black Prince again, does that mean you are starting snapdragon from seed, indoors? I'm amazed at the many types of snapdragons that you have! (The garden shops near me sell small plants, but mostly in primary, solid colors only.)

      Hi Louise, yes, I always start my snaps from seed, indoors, in fact in the next few days... The garden centres here, also don't stock the prettier varieties - that's why I sow from seed, and they are so easy 😁🌱

      Thanks so much Louise. I've decided that I don;t have space for them this year - they just take too long and I need to focus on the wedding flowers but I'll probably be back with Lisis in 2026 😁

    I agree it is lovely to get outside on a bright chilly day in the snow. You become stir crazy stuck indoors. Cheery and a promise of spring to see the buds on your primroses. Would certainly be interested in the link to the moss, so many uses in the garden and creating little bulb vignettes. Thank you.

      Many thanks Annette for the link to the moss, I know I will find it useful. On scrolling through the blurb I notice the moss can be used for orchids. I am an orchid virgin and was given a small one several months ago. The wee thing survives more by luck than judgement so perhaps it is due for a little pampering with some of that moss. Great that there are now so many signs of Spring in the air. Look forward to your future videos on seed planting and life in your beautiful garden. Kind regards.
