Gorgeous as always and i have learned so much about colours and planning from your videos. So glad Richard is so helpful especially when you're injured yourself ❤
Thanks Louise. I'm so glad I can help others, although I'm not remotely professional but I do know what I like so I just share that! Richard has been SUCH a big help with the garden, especially since he likes doing all the jobs that I least enjoy 🤣
Oh I think I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again , that Richard !!!!! He is amazing! Richard you are a real treasure , I wish I could give this Direction to my hubby ! Your garden looks amazing . Does Richard even like gardening? If not he loves you a lot 💐
Thank you Diane. Yes, Richard likes gardening but he prefers the digging, weeding and clearing side, rather than the desigining or pruning side. But I always find it so much fun when he can name a plant (or recognise a weed) - just shows that maybe he does listen to me sometimes 🤣
Hello Annette and Richard. I like the little doll you found, it would go nicely sitting in a pot under a "tree" like someone taking a rest in the shade. I like your Geraniums, and I have a few I keep in pots near the house where I know I'll water them. One's called "Rozanne" and I don't know the others. I like the way geraniums flowers seem to pop up around other plants like dots of colour in a painting. I love the cherry tree area. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video, and I hope your finger's feeling less painful Annette. X
Hi Annette & Richard, I had to laugh so hard when I saw your steel rusty snail in the garden, right after you told us that the slugs had eaten your plants, greetings Joke and thanks you for your nice vlog.
Wonderful Marie. They are such whimsical flowers and I think they add a soft touch to a planting scheme, plus they are super handy for flower arrangements 😊
A lovely video as always Annette! I love the vibrant colour of the geranium. The little doll you dug up is very similar to the Frozen Charlotte dolls, which are made of bisque or china and were supposedly named after a young woman called Charlotte who froze to death in a carriage on her way to a ball in the 1800's.
Oh, thanks Marylyn. I've not heard of a frozen Charlotte doll - I've googled her but can't see any seated ones. I really do hope we can figure out the origins of this little doll. She is so sweet. It's a shame that her face is a little damaged but I'm so delighted that we found her. 😁
That little doll is adorable. My brother lives in an old mill and he's always digging up little treasures in the garden. Nothing exciting in my soil Annette! Love Geraniums and they're so easy to look after. Anne Thomson is such a beautiful colour. I'm going to David Austin's in Shropshire when we're on holiday next week and Harlow Carr is on my "wants" list.
Thanks Wendy. I think she's so cute - definitely one of the more interesting finds and I was so happy to be able to share it with everyone. Ooh - David Austin would be a dream excursion for me - but maybe I'd spend too much money!!! It'll be interesting to hear how many rose you come home with 🤣
Your beautiful garden is a credit to you both. Every partnership needs a ‘director’!! You work so well together. I have a “Richard” too, he makes structures/ containers and general support from my “directions”!! Just loving the pictures of your summer garden. Your enthusiasm spurs me on!🌺❤
Hi Annette and Richard, Everything looks lovely. Wanted to suggest some Cotton Tail Yarrow for your garden since you like Baby's Breath. Don't know if you're already growing some, but I find it to have a more substantial growth habit with similar white flowers. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better.🥰
Thank you so much Marie. It's always good to have someone to work with in the garden and I think we just got lucky that we are so well matched in enjoying differing roles and jobs. I can't imagine gardening with someone who had strong alternative ideas about the garden design 🤣 we'd probably have to divide the garden! I really appreciate that Richard encourages me to design and just accepts my decisions. I'm so very lucky. 😊
Thanks Jane. I do have some Achillea ptarmica 'The Pearl' which looks extremely similar. It may even be the same plant. I have it planted around a rose called Souvenir. I love it and at the moment it doesn't seem to require much support, which is always a plus! 😊
Geranium “Salome” is a great variety! Mine took a couple of years to settle in and get going, but once it did, boy, it really took off! Each year the stems scramble about 5 feet from the crown, and grow up through a shrub rose. One of the many things I like about this variety is that, although the stems romp around, they don’t root where they touch the ground, which makes maintenance very easy.😊
its all going to be lovely i have many geraniums and they flower for ages and when they finish flowering cut them down and then re grow and have a few more flowers
I love Ladies Mantle after the rain. The way the water beads on the leaves is beautiful. What is Richard sprinkling in the planting holes? In the yellow tub?
@@cottoverdi Thank you. It's funny, but because of the brand I would have overlooked that in a shop because I think of it as a lawn brand and the packaging reaffirms that. I need some top dressing. I'll give it a try.
Hi Juliana, I've not had that problem with Lady's Mantle but perhaps the soil is too wet, or if it's powdery mildew, the soil could be too dry. I find it grows and spreads everywhere in my garden and needs very little care - I even have some growing (really well) in between 2 pallets where I never water!
Gosh, I really don't know. I have a good friend in antiquities so we may ask her opinion. It's always so interesting when we find something like this. We keep everything (that is in 1 piece) and clean them up and then display them on a tray.
Hi Annette, do you always plant your bare roots into pots before out in the garden? I just received 4 bare roots of garden phlox. I did watch your phlox video. I ❤ phlox sooo much I really want to be successful with these. After watching your video I figured out why my annual phlox didn't grow, no darkness before germination 😅. I just planted 3 Roxanne geraniums but I want one more. New episode for propagating geraniums?
Hi Lisa, thanks for the Geranium idea - I think I'd need a few more varieties to make it worthwhile but it's certainly going to be added to my list 😁 Yes, I tend to pot up the bare roots every time. Mostly because I like to protect them from pests by letting them grow before adding them to the border. But also, because I then to order them to arrive in the early spring (or autumn) so the ground is often too cold and wet for them to bed in successfully. Whereas if I pot them up, I can protect them in the cold frames and allow them to root in properly and form foliage before adding them to the borders when the soil warms up. Everyone does it differently so do what works for you. 😊
@@cottoverdi 💚 I have had issues with bare roots before and I am pretty sure it was phlox that I planted directly into the soil. I am going to pot these up and see if can get better results. In the meantime, I picked up a clearance phlox that I believe is three separate plants 🪴. I always feel like I have to save them 🤭
Richard needs a sign for the garden. ‘ I planted everything, she just pointed’. 😊lol well done.
🤣🤣🤣 Yes, don't worry, he gets all the credit for the hard work!
Great video and great selection of plants added to your beautiful garden.
Thanks Nicholas 😊

That's such a cute idea Jimmy. I love it! 😁

🤣 Yes, I have a snail and a slug - I thought they were cute and also ironic. It's nice to add some humour to the garden I think 😁
always a pleasure seeing your videos, speedy recovery for the finger!
Thank you so much 😀
Your information on Gypsophila was timely Annette as I have just bought some plugs of gypsophila and have potted them to grow on (NZ winter). 🌺

@@cottoverdi Annette, my list is getting bigger by the minute. I've told the family that they may be walking home as there'll be no room in the car!
🤣

That little doll reminds me of those we have here in France to keep open the shutters. Lovely video as usual ❤
Thanks Kim. The shutter dolls sound so cute!

Thanks Linda. Yes, I think geraniums are so useful and such a 'light' addition to the border. 😊

yes, it's so pretty, I love it too. Richard is sprinkling plant food - it's this one (we've just decanted it into a smaller tub) amzn.to/46KzCRL

Beautiful as usual Annette. I planted ladies mantle last year. This year it has really struggled with mold. Do you have any advice? Love from Juliana

Well you know what they say..
Behind every good man there’s a woman with a big stick😂😂
Sorry Richard, just kidding. Honest 😉
So true, so true 🤣
