I have lots of anemones that flower beautifully in spring. In autumn a few of them throw up a few sparse flowers. I think in spring you will be delighted
Very interesting - I’ve never seen perennial anemone planted outside . I’ve seen fall blooming cut flower anemones in a green house associated with a Christmas Tree farm. They are in full flower to purchase along with cutting a Christmas tree. (US northeast, zone 6.)
Maybe the fact I planted my anemonies are rather sparce is because i planted mine by my peonies which are quite bushy with large leaves, so although in a south west bed, were quite shaded by the foliage. I shall have to plant more corms in an airier place. Ranunculus are coming through beautifully though. It was worth an experiment though Annette. Happy growing 🙂
Years ago i planted anemone and squirrels or chipmunks are them. Your garden looks good. It is below freezing here and everything is brown. Thanks for the video. Also why don't you clip some of the blooms before they open all the way and bring them in.
Thanks! Yes, I will definitely cut some but I wanted to leave them in the garden so that I could create the video. Those pesky squirrels are so annoying and they may well be the reason some of my plants are 'missing' 😬🌸
Morning Annette. During the intro and again at 10.13 you are standing beside a fabulous example of a viburnum. Please tell me the variety. Many thanks in advance. Debs x
Oh hi Deb, yes, I love that Viburnum. I planted so long ago that I no longer have the name tag but I think it is Viburnum tinus 'Lisarose'. It has pink buds from November for months and then flowers all through the winter - Highly recommend!
I am freezing as the other viewer from zone 6 Ohio. I have lost all the anemone that I have planted over the past 3 years 😢. I don't know what happened to them but may not enough sun.
That's such a shame Lisa, I'm so sorry. Maybe the squirrels or chipmunks ate them? If it's extremely cold, then they will forage for anything they can get their hands on and I've lost my entire collection to squirrels in the past 😢
@cottoverdi Thank you Annette because I never thought of that!!!!! We have sooooooo many squirrels that when I opened the door to our old pool shack, there was a flood of nuts and debris and my anemone tubers. Then there are the ground squirrels, rabbits, birds and other wild life.
Good morning Annette, you know what, if something is not doing well in my garden, I will not buy again even to 'try again'!! It is a waste of time and money. I was listening to your talk, what if you lifted those anemone's and re-planted them into a trough like container. Their roots are not deep so a big pot is a waste. We have beautiful colours yet, the quality of those little corms or nuggets, if their are not quality, in fact that goes for everything, if not quality, you are just going to struggle forever. I planted some winter bulbs, what a disappointment, I took them out the pots to see what the bulbs looked like, they did not flower, they did not multiply and the bulbs were the size of glass pin heads, I was furious. Some growers just want the money, they are not dedicated to growing good quality plants. We kept some seeds of tomatoes and a few more, they all sprouted and are growing beautifully, the bought seeds, nothing. What is going on? We are presently in this sun cycle of some solar "thing" everything is getting burned by the sun, we do not go outside from 11 am until 4 pm. The temperatures rise from 30 - 40 deg C. It feels so unbearable and the plants are getting hammered. The grass is finished, cannot water I think they have water restrictions not sure, we still have water in the rain water tanks which we use on our plants. The sun's cycle works for 11 years, 5 and half in the southern hemisphere and then 5 and half in the northern hemisphere. So get ready, this has nothing to do with their lies about climate change. Ask your husband to read up on this on Google. Men like this field. White flowers do not work for me they always go brown, horrible. I can understand why some people just grow lawns, trees like conifers, they do not mess too much and leave the rest. Hail wrecks your plants, too much rain and they rot, why do we punish ourselves like this. We must become wise, a big glass hot house will work, but not in Africa, the weather is just too demanding. Have a beautiful and peaceful day, take care, keep snug. Kind regards.
Hi there, thanks for your suggestions. I think, for this year, I'm going to leave them where they are and then wait to see what delights spring may bring 😆 Your weather sounds extreme! I don't think I would enjoy 40° - the sounds way too hot! I hope you can find some way to cool down.. 😊🌸
Annette and Richard,
Have a wonderful Christmas Day and all the very best to you both for the New Year.
Xxx
Merry Christmas to you both xxx

Sounds great Catherine. I can't wait to see what spring brings! 😊
I could never do that in in Ohio, USA. Its only 32F - 0C at 2:20 in the afternoon. Better days are coming!
Gosh, that is cold! 😊😬

Hi Louise, that sounds amazing, we definitely don't have any anemones as cut flowers at this time of year here. 😊

Thanks Be, yes, lessons learned.... 😊🌸
Thanks for the video! I've never grown anemones, but looks like I'll be adding those to my garden next year!
Thanks Patti - definitely worth a try. Anemones are so beautiful! 😊🌸

Can you buy anemones in the spring?
Hi, Yes, I can buy them in the spring too - but I'm going to leave these in the ground just incase they bloom again 😊

So it looks like you can plant these in the summer ? and expect blooms even during the winter? I am 8b and want to try them next year.
Hi Judy, yes, this is the theory! 😊
