    Oh Annette you should see behind my shed. That is where all my cut off plants are and all the flotsum that I want to hide. Your garden is beautiful with those beautiful brick walls and all of your beautiful plants and shrubs and trees.

      Thank you, I guess we all have that one area that does't look quite so perfect 😁

    Great team work both. That's a lot Dahlias to get into storage. Your beautiful trees with those Autumn leaves such a picture. How big is your garden? seems a lot for just the two of you to take care of. Interesting about the Peanuts. Two squirrels raid my flat based bird feeders, so l let them have those. Then watch where the Robins go, under which Shrubs and take a handful of feed and scatter under those plants. The squirrels are so clever, l hung a fresh Coconut of which l had drilled a 2" hole, from a string in my tree. The squirrel chew through the string, the coconut dropped to the ground. Then the squirrel put his head into the hole and stuffed himself sick with coconut. It was so funny to watch. I only have a small garden but from my Conservatory I can see the birds and the Bees and those naughty squirrels. I even had a little field mouse get into my fat feeder, the square ones you put the blocks in. The lid was tightly on, but somehow he wriggled through a 1/2" gap and got inside. I took a lovely photo of him. Love your honesty re your compost bins, real life, always a gardening job to do. Happy gardening 🧑‍🌾

    Love your garden even the compost area. I've been shredding leaves to make compost and to mulch some my beds over the winter. Wonderful bird feeders. In the US we have problems with squirrels getting into the bird feeders. Lately, I've been adding red pepper . It doesn't hurt the birds but keeps squirrels away. I've put meal worms on the ground but never thought of putting them in feeders.

      Sounds great! We have a few cages that seem to help prevent the squirrels getting to the feeders - probably my 3 cats scare them away too 🤣

    Hi Annette, love your please be kind😁.
    I haven’t watched you tube for awhile as I’ve been working more and not so much free time. 😢Your garden has changed so much since the last video of yours that I watched. I think the last one was end of summer.
    I’m sure most people have one of these areas but they just don’t show it or admit to it. Hope you are keeping well. I keep all my leaves too. In fact I pick up all the leaves from the park across the road and I sweep up all the leaves in my street and put them all on my garden beds.
    I’m lucky here in South Oz as we don’t have to dig up our dailies for winter.

      Hi Carol, thank you - yes, probably most people have a messier area in their garden but it's hard to actually admit to it on film 🤣 Yes, you're very lucky if you don't have to dig your dahlias! they are a lot of work for us but I still think they are worth the time investment because they are so beautiful and really add something fabulous to my garden 😊

    Oh the leaves, it's a tas every year. I think one of our best jnvestments was a ride on mower with mulching kit, just whizz over the lawn and they're gone. We have a number of mature Sycamores and the leaves are never ending. You leafy mulch looks rich and lovely.

    Dear Annette I had to laugh when you said, please be kind!! The leaf mould is worth gold. Look how lovely it has decomposed. Gardening is tough work. I took out my dahlia tubers which were in tubs, the soil was finished and the tubers like bantam chicken eggs - I was not impressed. So I re-potted them into small pots and I will feed them well, and then they can go into the garden soil. They perform better and I have to lift some of the other older tubers as well. It never ends. See when you used the blower to gather the leaves you should have blasted the tree with the left over leaves, like plucking a chicken :) have fun while gardening. I think we are going to have a summer storm tonight, I do not really like storms during the night, it is more scary than day time. I have improved after many prayers I use to be a real scary cat. I even asked my husband if I could have awnings over all the windows. Much better for me. Love the cages over the bird feeders, doves can be real gluttons they even chase each other. I buy chicken feed for the birds, it is fine and they enjoy that very much. Keep snug, take care. Kind regards.

      Yes, I've found over the years that my dahlias do not perform well in containers and so from now on I will not be planting them up in pots - in the ground only! 😊🌸

    Hi Annette, I hope it's not too cold for you out there.
    Here in the Peloponnese, Greece we 've been having two days of continuous rain and I am a bit sad cause I haven't seen the sun for 24 hours. Temperature is 15C during the day which is a bit cold.
    Your red tree is stunning. Keep warm.

    Such an unbelievable warmth. The temperature is 17C and it's very wet. It feels as if May is coming.
    Today December 6th is St Nicholas' nsmeday, a big one.

    great video Annette. You have been so busy. We started our dahlias yesterday. As we were threatened with minus temperatures last night, I also gathered all my tender plants and put them in the greenhouse, agapanthus, salvias, fuchsia, half hardy perennial grasses, cannas, coleus, and pelargoniums. It took all afternoon and I was absolutely shattered by late afternoon. Some of the pots were really heavy. Are you doing the Christmas crafts again this year? I loved that series as I love to craft. Happy gardening 🙂 x

      Oh how I wish I had a greenhouse! I wasn't going to do Vlogmas again because it is way too much to film and edit a video every day in the lead up to Christmas (I have no idea how people do it!) but I'm filing my first 'Christmassy' video tomorrow and there will no doubt be a few crafts over the coming months because I just love to create things! 😊🌸

    Delightful video - you are such a cheerful gardener. Enjoyed seeing the compost area. Wonder if you ever considered the HotBin to compost faster? Thanks for all the dahlia tips. My sister and I adopted your washing table idea (back saver) and ingenious mesh bags to keep dahlia types together. Dahlia tubers are now put away for the season for me in New Jersey, where it has been very dry for weeks. The tubers were almost too dry after just one day out of the ground, and their little necks were skinny and weak. Trying saran wrap storage this year for the first time!

      Hi Louise, yes, I have considered a hotBin - they aren't a priority for our budget until we have all the borders filled and that could be a year or 2 - But I full intend to revisit the idea in the future.😊🌸

    The autumn colours are beautiful. Annette I know you grow some of your dahlias in pots. Do you deadhead them to keep them going? I am a container Gardner and growing collarette s for the first time this year - NZ. They are looking lovely just now. I love the different seasons in the garden. Lots to do in autumn of course but we are now so enjoying our flower filled courtyard - late spring/early summer. Watering daily and sometimes twice as its becoming warm and dry. Great vid.

      @cottoverdi  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, Marie, definitely deadhead them, especially pots and also I've found they need quite a lot of feeding when in pots. 🌸😊

      @ many thanks. It’s my first time pot growing. Really enjoying them. One though, when it’s in bud they are rotting off before flowers form! It started off great. 🌺

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MarieCB916 Oh, that's annoying. It may just be that they got wet in some rain? If the plant looks healthy then I would just deadhead and wait for the next blooms

    My goodness, don't be shy to show your compost area. I learn so much from what you share. You have a wonderful space and you use it well. I also feed birds, but have not purchased meal worms. Do you find that they attract squirrels?
