My whole family played City Folk so we all knew about him except my little brother. When my time was up and it was my brothers turn to play he just ejected the disc before I could save. My parents had to launch the game because I didn’t want to be scolded for something I didn’t do.

wow, i’ve always been fascinated by this glitch/exploit, and have never found more than just some forum posts about it. Ive always been really facinated with errors and corruption in animal crossing and other games, so i’m happy to see such a video that goes in depth about it :)

I’ve been playing new leaf for over ten years without hacks and have tried to finish my town (have all my dreamies, complete my houses and town layout) because I wanted to be featured in someone’s dream town visit videos. I still haven’t finished. And now the servers are shut down 😩

If you had told me that you could hack animal crossing to access the emulator and play any game on it, and that it was the best nes emulator Nintendo has made, I'd have have thought it was super cool, but the fact that they literally put an item in there that can already do all that is so much cooler. I wonder why they would do this.

I have no idea why Nintendo would include an item like this is their game. And the fact that on top of that it is straight up the best nes emulator Nintendo has ever made is crazy. Legitimately feels like a myth i would've believed when I was ten

I didn't know any of this, which is surprising, because I binge fact videos for games I'm interested in :D

Imagine finding out about this glitch, then playing the gane and seeing the paparr airplane, my heart would sink and I'd turn off the game so quick lol

I still think the fact talking to an NPC with a specific story flag in the original Skyward Sword could completely softock your game was the most aggregious glitch in a Nintendo game

I like to imagine one of the reasons that Resetti is so anti-resetting is because he's seen a ton of people forced to reset because they've done some stupid thing that crashed their game, and makes assumptions.

Hypothetically speaking, if your town was uploaded as a Dream Town and you had the ability to access the Dream Suite without going to Mainstreet in your own Town after saving over your town with a Dream Town could you potentially restore your original Town by visiting it as a dream and saving it over the dream town that replaced it?

What is the link to the dream town dumps?

This video should be a rather large reminder that it doesn't matter what companies do to try and stop people from getting around stops and checksums, or how "obsolete" technology is cut off from our modern world; people will find a way around it and make it work. Invasive DRM, attacks on Right-To-Repair, Server-Shutdowns . . . all of it can be circumvented with enough perseverance.

From a programming aspect this is really easy to prevent. In the save function simply return an error message before saving if in a dream town. This feature was probably added on rather poorly.

Nintendo chose maybe the dumbest way to implement this feature. Overwriting the player town? Really? Did Nintendo think maybe a dedicated slot for dream towns was too complicated? And of course Nintendo didn't use validation on dream town data. Nintendo always kind of seemed to behave as if they really don't understand how the Internet works.

Where is this "Town Vault"? I've searched, but I can't find it.

Just wanted to say, this is the first time I've seen New Leaf with the HD textures and wow. It looks like how I imagined the original looking back then, when that resolution was the best you'd get on handheld. Would be awesome to go back to the game as it is here to relive the nostalgia without the graininess

I'm so glad to see you've stepped into New Leaf! It was my favourite growing up, and still is (although the gamecube version is now growing on me too despite never playing it thanks to your videos!) and I'd love to see you cover more

This makes me wish I knew about this glitch earlier so I could have backed up the town of one of my best friends. Unfortunately it's too late now. Edit: I'm glad to hear they're working on dumping all the dream towns, as that was one of the few things that remained from my old friend from around a decade ago. Hopefully their town was never erased, I tended to visit them every once in a while, but I went a while without playing and might have left their town unvisited for a year or more.
