I revisited Pocket Camp after initially playing it years ago and my mind was blown seeing just how much more clothing and furniture it had compared to NH, as well as just more stuff to do in general. The fact it was updated frequently until EOS and was loved enough by the dev team to give it an offline version is nuts when you think about how poorly NH was handled.
Honestly, it's not too much of a surprise for me. I think it has more items and clothes since it used to be a "free to play" mobile game. These types of games tend to get flooded with content so players can continue spending on it. Even if there was a timeline where NH got more updates, it would still never match Pocket Camp's content due to the nature of that game.
@adrianleonce455 I agree. The way NH made it's money is by selling you the whole game, the way Pocket Camp made it's money is through microtransactions bought by users looking to buy the new items.

@@silversprit3852I think the main target is probably just people with less free time. By condemning it to one aspect of the game it's less reliant on you spending large amounts of time working on a whole town.
Happy Home Designer is the only animal crossing game i can enjoy now since I have a full time job LOL You have to admit that mainline AC is definitely a series for people with a lot of free time! (HHD also cuts out the bell grind to get to fun stuff too soooooo)
It's so much easier to pick up and put down as well. Even newer games like NL and NH have you feel bad for getting busy with real life for a week or two. I've been playing NL recently and my villagers have been killing me with their "Let's hang out an hour from now" requests. Thankfully I have the hacking tool vapecord installed so, while I don't use it for anything game breaking, I can just jump ahead an hour without saving and quitting. It's also helpful for skipping dialogue which is another pain for busy people. 😭
i recently realised the reason why every single person was so naively dead set the wii u was going to get a mainline game was because it probably wouldve been another city folk.
6:12 I wouldn't be surprised if this was a joke added in localization, I recall HHD had a bit of dialogue where a villager reading a comic would say something along the lines of "I wish I could read this comic in its original language, but instead I have to settle for this- ugh- localized version."
Animal Crossing Calculator has another feature you didn't mention. If you get a number that shows your birthday (e.g. 812 would mean the 8th day of December), you'll get a birthday message. It will show the words "Your Birthday" next to the result, and K.K. Slider (not Tom Nook!!) will pop up with some flowers. Exciting, I know! :D Animal Crossing Plaza has another feature: Transferring your New Leaf screenshots over to the Wii U to post them on Miiverse. I don't think Miiverse 3DS existed at the time of Animal Crossing Plaza or maybe posting screenshots for Animal Crossing New Leaf on Miiverse through the 3DS directly wasn't possible yet, so this was your workaround to posting Animal Crossing NL screenshots to Miiverse. Though the video itself also shows it. Oh, and where is Photos with Animal Crossing???? The distribution for that app in Europe is insane on its own, there's plenty to talk about it.
@KittyCatKayden the celebration animation only happens if your calculator results in the number, so try entering the number and then going backwards and forwards with subtracting and adding 1. Maybe it's reverse (MonthDay) in a different region? I was using the European version. Also, check if you have your birthday set up in the system settings.
@@ABlob (EDIT: Nevermind! The problem was that I entered 258 and not 2508. It worked!) I tried both ways around and it still doesn't work, could you try temporarily changing your DSi/3DS birthday setting to my birthday and try and see if this happens to you?
I used the Animal Crossing clock as an alarm clock as a kid, I’d just set it up as I got ready for bed and leave it open while charging. Worked like a charm, I’ll have to dig out my old system to check what my town tune was set as lol
I think amiibo festival would've been good if you had a little city you could manage while playing amiibo festival to get good stuff that'll help you improve your city more. Have you unlock more characters and boards the more you play and have more game modes as well with at least half of the time spent in the game being town stuff. But it's called amiibo festival so if that game was successful you just know they would've hidden so many things behind amiibos that it would be unplayable if you didn't spend at least $200 in amiibos
2:50 i’m still mad that i was grounded during the eevee event period because i was 15 & dumb 😭 hopefully complete will spawn a modding community that lets me get them at long last!
I didn't hear about the Eevee event and Eevee's my favorite pokemon... I only got the hood for free but I really hope mods can help me get the other items some day
I NEVER FORGOT!! I NEVER FORGOT ABOUT THEM! i preordered happy home designer for the 3ds and amiibo festival!! i spent $60 on amiibo festival!! i skipped school to pick up my pre order from gamestop and played it all day!! I LOVE THAT DANG WII U GAME!
happy home designer was my introduction to the franchise! i think it was christmas 2016 or 2017 when i got a happy home designer themed new 3ds (with the isabelle backplates!!) that came preloaded with the game. i played it for hours everyday during the holiday break and eventually begged my parents for new leaf, which i got maybe 6 months later. i will defend that game with my LIFE
my mom loved pocket camp, she basically 100% the damn thing with how much stuff she had and completed! when i used to play (which was never often), her camp was always changing to fit with so many themes and holidays, even stuff not being celebrated ingame. she had an amazing flower garden, like every single villager unlocked, and generally really took good care of it. i remember her telling me she caved and bought the membership thing lmfao (she said it was kiiiinda worth it). when the game came to a close, she had already drifted off from it as her new job took up a lot of her time, along with me with high school and our baby sister preparing for school after i graduated. i never played it much, but im glad my mom loved it
Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival is significantly more fun when you have AC amiibo cards. The amiibo cards had villagers with specific preferred dice rolls that you could roll instead of a regular die which added a lot more agency to your game. This made it easier to get a high turnip price. It definitely is not as good as Mario Party, but it was a neat little game. I loved how you could design a house for a villager with Happy Home Designer and store it on the amiibo card, and put that same house design into your amiibo festival town. Amiibo Festival definitely isn't worth $60 though, maybe closer to $40. If you wanted to design villager houses, you'd have to spend the additional $40 to buy Happy Home Designer, not to mention the cost of the additional amiibo card packs, which definitely isn't worth it, but it was still neat, and probably a lot more worth it now if you are okay with sailing the seven seas.
I can't but remember there was one interview where an answer was given about amiibo festival's existence and that it was made for the purpose of pushing amiibo sales.
It makes sense that happy home designer was poorly received, this was back around the time where they teased a brand new animal crossing game for the wiiu only to rug pull with the amiibo festival, so people weren't very interested in any spinoff titles at the time
Plus, the game didn't really work well as a standalone title. Happy Home Paradise showed us that this kind of spinoff is best utilized as an "extra campaign" for a mainline AC game.
Calling amiibo festival a rugpull and saying they teased an actual game is disingenuous, we knew exactly what it was when it was revealed. The stuff before was all speculation
@@adrianleonce455Why not? I think if they were to do it again, they could definitely pull it off as long as they lower the price when compared to that of a mainline title. A lot of people love the decoration aspect of Animal Crossing.
I've still got my fingers crossed someone figures out a modding method to just give people all those crossover items/villagers in Pocket Camp Complete, to be honest. I'm usually pretty strict about not using outside methods for this sort of thing, but if they're just gone forever otherwise I don't really see any point in refusing to give them to myself in a wholly offline game.

8:12 Hi! I'm one of the commenters featured here in the top right! One of the main reasons I enjoy amiibo festival is because of the scenarios that play out on the spaces, plus the whole system of selling turnips based on the spaces you land on. I totally get the criticism and I greatly apologize if my comment came off as me being rude, but I had a great time playing it when I did. I actually played it recently! But my gamepad kept dying super quickly so i dont think ill be going back to it anytime soon sadly
Don't worry, it didn't come as rude! I know I poked fun at it, but I really don't mind people defending their opinions. Even if I don't personally care much for the game, I'm happy that others found enjoyment out of it.
I feel like animal crossing amiibo festivale COULD have been a lot of fun if they'd just put mini-games..........in their game, and not OUTSIDE of it. I was really excited for the game before it came out because an animal crossing mario party sounds so fun and cute?? Mini-games like the tours on tortimer island would have been fun? Or other simple things, idk i feel like they could have done SO MUCH in that department. It feels more like they should have just released a physical board game, I think that might have gone over better. (The amiibo figurines could have still been the player pieces, they'd do pretty much the same amount of stuff 😭rip animal crossing amiibo)
Fantastic video as always! The way you dig into the AC games and peel back the curtain on the tech, development history, and trivia is always so fun to watch.
Fun fact, the concept of Happy Home Designer would actually be brought back as a DLC for New Horizons called Happy Home Paradise, and I agree that it's a good thing that it was made into a DLC for New Horizons instead of a separate game.
Honestly amiibo festival is hated for the same reason something like banjo kazooie nuts and bolts is hated, its not that bad of a game, but fuck if it was what the fans expected or wanted.
Both games are just so boring. I love the vehicle designing in N&B, but all you can do with those vehicles is drive them through vast empty wastelands. Doing just about anything on foot is entirely non-viable, which is pretty annoying.
I feel like the reason due to Amiibo festival doesn't have comments is due to youtube's policy with it having the youtube kids on it and when a video has that comments are automatically disable. Yeah its been like 9 years but just assuming! Great video btw keep up the solid content!!
I always watch these types of videos thinking theres nothing left for me to learn after two decades, but isabelle being undefeated is absolutely hilarious
"Who would win a marathon" "Isabelle!" . . . huh... so thats why Doom Guy and her get along so well **cue them speeding around hell blasting cacodemons with glee**
i had the mario clock and mario calculator apps on my dsi as a kid so seeing the animal crossing variants I never had takes me back, the apps are basically the same with different skins and I always thought being able to convert between human and animal ages was cute
I love that Happy Home and Island Escape got second chances. Happy Home Paradise made me drop another 50+ hours on New Horizons, and I still go back to HHP every once in a while. Plus New Leaf got a bunch of HHD's improvements alongside Island Escape and Puzzle League. As rough of a time it was for the series, it helped drastically improve New Leaf and New Horizons. I also think I had the AC Clock. It'd be a neat clock if you just left it up now, but I wouldn't want it to tire out my 3DS doing that.
I was so addicted to happy home designer in high school/college, I liked that it included a lot of region-locked and timed-event items from new leaf :] good game for people who like collecting
I like how they said happy home designer wasn't the direction the series was going, then new horizons very much went in that direction, stripping out a bunch of things to focus on design tools.
Amiibo Festival was a pleasant surprise to me when I played it. I'm not a diehard Animal Crossing fan (both before and after playing Amiibo Festival), but still. To me, it's not bad and I have no problem putting this in my Wii U and playing it from time-to-time.
I remember getting the dsi animal crossing clock! I had no idea what animal crossing was at the time… i probably just thought it looked cute. But i guess that was technically my first exposure to animal crossing!
2:38 I’m actually so devastated… but thank you for answering a question I’ve been asking since Pocket Camp Complete released. I have a few items from when the collab returned for the release of Splatoon 3 and was so excited to find the fortune cookie through the new catalog, but it wasn’t there. I was praying I just overlooked it but I guess they really are gone forever.. 😢😢
Thank you so much for being at least a little nice to amiibo festival. Genuinely the only reason I haven't played it recently is because I don't have a wiiu -- I got the game when I lived with someone who did and let me use it. Someday the wiiu resale price will go down, then i'll _finally_ get one and be able to play amiibo festival again.
My experience with Animal Crossing as a kid was one prone-to-freezes Wild World cartridge, but I got HHD randomly for my birthday once. Fantastic for what it was, it had me nab the NH DLC and play an extra few months, even after burning out hard on the game. I still go back to both from time to time.
Funnily enough i played amiibo festival a few days ago, its not bad if you need a game to play with people who can't play complex games. There's at least a little depth with the turnips, and once you get to customizing the board, thats pretty neat. Its not a mind-blowing game or a revolution, its just kinda neat

Happy Home Designer is the only animal crossing game i can enjoy now since I have a full time job LOL
You have to admit that mainline AC is definitely a series for people with a lot of free time!
My hate for amiibo festival (and I'm sure many others) comes from the fact that Wii U owners such as myself didn't get a mainline AC game.
I really wanted that HD 60 fps grass 😢
i recently realised the reason why every single person was so naively dead set the wii u was going to get a mainline game was because it probably wouldve been another city folk.
Animal Crossing Plaza has another feature: Transferring your New Leaf screenshots over to the Wii U to post them on Miiverse.
The distribution for that app in Europe is insane on its own, there's plenty to talk about it.
very good comment, hope he sees this
For some reason the birthday thing in the calculator doesn't work for me. My birthday is 25 August, do you know what the problem might be?
@KittyCatKayden the celebration animation only happens if your calculator results in the number, so try entering the number and then going backwards and forwards with subtracting and adding 1.
Maybe it's reverse (MonthDay) in a different region? I was using the European version.
Also, check if you have your birthday set up in the system settings.
@ I have my birthday set up, and I use the European version too cause I live in Australia. I'll try again soon.
The cards were a lot cheaper than figures
2:50 i’m still mad that i was grounded during the eevee event period because i was 15 & dumb 😭 hopefully complete will spawn a modding community that lets me get them at long last!
I didn't hear about the Eevee event and Eevee's my favorite pokemon... I only got the hood for free but I really hope mods can help me get the other items some day
I'm also waiting to see if any modding shenanigans start to unfold. But the Nintendo ninjas might get pretty feisty in that case.
@@mrlaz9011 They haven't come after ACNH modders.
"i was grounded during the eevee event period because i was 15 & dumb" That's a shame.

1:57 hey, how did you know my town tune

I NEVER FORGOT!! I NEVER FORGOT ABOUT THEM! i preordered happy home designer for the 3ds and amiibo festival!! i spent $60 on amiibo festival!! i skipped school to pick up my pre order from gamestop and played it all day!! I LOVE THAT DANG WII U GAME!

RIP pocket camp, the fact that they didn't let you get those limited items again sucks
Isn't that what they're doing in Complete?
Oh, got to that point in the video, yeah that does kinda suck
@@pearlplayaa on the bright side we'll be able to cheat them in since they'll still exist in the game files
@@JimMilton-ej6ziI hope so!
happy home designer was my introduction to the franchise! i think it was christmas 2016 or 2017 when i got a happy home designer themed new 3ds (with the isabelle backplates!!) that came preloaded with the game. i played it for hours everyday during the holiday break and eventually begged my parents for new leaf, which i got maybe 6 months later. i will defend that game with my LIFE
my mom loved pocket camp, she basically 100% the damn thing with how much stuff she had and completed! when i used to play (which was never often), her camp was always changing to fit with so many themes and holidays, even stuff not being celebrated ingame. she had an amazing flower garden, like every single villager unlocked, and generally really took good care of it. i remember her telling me she caved and bought the membership thing lmfao (she said it was kiiiinda worth it). when the game came to a close, she had already drifted off from it as her new job took up a lot of her time, along with me with high school and our baby sister preparing for school after i graduated. i never played it much, but im glad my mom loved it
i got happy home designer for my 11th birthday n i absolutely adored it (still do tbh)
I for one would like to see a video on animal crossing clones or games that try to mimic the gameplay/style of animal crossing.
didn't realise how nostalgic I'd feel hearing happy home designer music considering I didn't even play it that much...
1:55 I have a feeling waking up to that tune is gonna be a bad time.
I will stand by Happy Home Designer being a great, extremely under appreciated game. I proudly played for 50+ hours.
You're literally the only channel that I've watched.Every single video you made keep it up bro
i cant believe i just got megalovania’d in a hunter r. video
So true amiibo festival is the peak of animal crossing
I loved Happy Home Designer and literally the only reason why I even bothered getting back into ACNH was so I could play Happy Home Paradise.
Heya! Just telling you that I've been a subscriber since your first video and you were the first creator I ever considered to suscribe to their patreon (cant because im a student and have no money lol)
You are a great creator and Ive been watching every video of yours ever since. Continue the great work!
Appreciate it! And no worries - financially supporting will always be voluntary! Simply watching and enjoying my videos is enough for me. :)
Don't normally comment but just wanted to drop a thank you for the videos! These always cheer me up and I really enjoyed the difference pace of this one where we get to hear a little more of your opinions on these games! Thank you for the hard work on this channel.

4:57 Turns out it would affect the series future
There is an animal crossing monopoly so maybee
Fantastic video as always! The way you dig into the AC games and peel back the curtain on the tech, development history, and trivia is always so fun to watch.
1:55 of course hunter is no stranger to megalovania.
omg Isabelle and Digby coming from a cardboard box is breaking my heart
Fun fact, the concept of Happy Home Designer would actually be brought back as a DLC for New Horizons called Happy Home Paradise, and I agree that it's a good thing that it was made into a DLC for New Horizons instead of a separate game.
The moment I heard you could compose custom alarms, I knew what was gonna happen
@@shny_scott yeah, nuts and bolts really feels unfinished in general
I got HHD not long after it released, and I've always loved playing it! I do wish you had your own house to decorate, though
I feel like the reason due to Amiibo festival doesn't have comments is due to youtube's policy with it having the youtube kids on it and when a video has that comments are automatically disable. Yeah its been like 9 years but just assuming! Great video btw keep up the solid content!!
haven't seen the video yet, fingers crossed he mentions animal crossing calculator for the ds 🤞

I had about 234 Hrs of Happy Home Designer
happy home designer brings back many childhood memories
Im honestly dreading the pocket camp complete release
Awesome video!!!!
i had the mario clock and mario calculator apps on my dsi as a kid so seeing the animal crossing variants I never had takes me back, the apps are basically the same with different skins and I always thought being able to convert between human and animal ages was cute
I love happy home designer. I played it so much. 100% completed and still long in from time to time.
cool sponsor man. congratulations! well deserved
Now i remember how pocket camp got more updates than the mainline game 🗿
I was so addicted to happy home designer in high school/college, I liked that it included a lot of region-locked and timed-event items from new leaf :] good game for people who like collecting
How DARE you disparage the Animal Crossing clock app!!!! Lmao
That Amiibo Festival placeholder picture with the four Peanuts in front of the tent haunts my memory like a ghost
8:40 Actually, the video was categorized as “made for kids.” This category automatically disables comments.
I like how they said happy home designer wasn't the direction the series was going, then new horizons very much went in that direction, stripping out a bunch of things to focus on design tools.

I started the whole series with Happy Home Designer. It defiently kept me enterntained for a long while.

I own a complete copy of Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, and I am glad I was able to find a new copy so long after release.
Well, there’s also Animal Crossing: Sweet Day on Wii U in Nintendo Land. TBH it’s an amazing game my friends and I still play every now and then.
Huh, so this is how I find out Pocket Camp is being replaced.
We were blessed with a Hunter video this Christmas 🙏🙏🙏
Funnily enough i played amiibo festival a few days ago, its not bad if you need a game to play with people who can't play complex games. There's at least a little depth with the turnips, and once you get to customizing the board, thats pretty neat. Its not a mind-blowing game or a revolution, its just kinda neat
Hunter finally ran out of ways to not talk about Amiibo Festival. Just like the rest of us...
