Battletech Vengeance's Helldiver, Quikscell's New Cashgrab!
#Battletech #BattletechLore #Mechwarrior #mechwarrior5clans
We talked about a top piece of hardware Monday. Now let's talk about... a piece of hardware. Yeah.
Quikscell is not known for quality products. To remedy this, they created a SEPARATE company called Quikscell Speciality Manufacturing to produce their "high-end stuff". Like Manticores that are actually Manticores, and attack helicopters that can actually fly.
Then, they decided to get into BattleMech production. One of their first product was this ABSOLUTE UNIT of a warmachine, the HDV-0O Helldiver OmniMech. Well, Omnenough, anyways. 60 tons of mostly basic equipment, with mostly basic configurations and mostly basic maintenance. Perfect for the average Quikscell customer that is ready to upgrade from "entirely terrible" to "well, it's not THAT bad".

I am not kidding when I say the Stormcrow is the best mech in the game. Most configurations range from great to fantastic, with the Primary being capable of punching WAY above its weight range. As an omnimech, it can also do pretty much whatever you want it to do with a massive amount of pod space and enough internal room to make it work.
Truly, this is a top tier piece of hardware I recommend all players use.

Of all the people to remember that you can just slot in modular armor on an OmniMech, it’s Quicksell. On something that barely qualifies as an Omni and has near-max armor anyways. I’m not actually that surprised.
Quikcell: Harbor Freight in space with mechs (before Harbor Freight had their glow up anyway)
Interesting
Dumb house militaries and Quickcell, with 18 tons of podpace and 12 double heatsinks. You put energy weapons on it. Basic design is one ER PPC, or Large Pulse Laser and as many ER medium lasers as will fit, but at least 4.
2 regular PPCs and 6 medium Lasers should do the job
Don't you love it when the cockpit of your new mech smells like...Liberty...
That new command couch smell is just perfect.
I see that Quicksell commercial was pushed into someone elses algorithms as well.
Volkite is a friend of mine, his Quikscell ad is hilarious.
I would buy it for my mercs.
It's better then a whole army of Rooks.
That is honestly the primary market for them... Until the Robinson March Brigades started buying them by the dropship. That, and pirates. Quikscell honestly has a very wide customer base.
I find the Summoner works best in a star of JJ mediums. I think it pairs particularly well with the Nova and the Shadow Cat.
It is a great cavalry commander indeed, and with the number of good IIC cavalry 'mechs the Clans can bring, it is a great thing.
@ProfessorHeyTeeEn Definitely, my GBD unit runs a Summoner Prime, Shadow Cat B, Nova A, and a pair of Clint IICs in one of their Stars.
Hello Professor HeyTeeEn. The Hellsport Mech Museum and the Mek Werks have recently come into possession of a badly damaged Peacekeeper PKP-1B. All the weapons, TSM, and heat sinks were destroyed when the Mech's Engine overheated to the point of a near meltdown. They boys at the Mek Werks went to work with a will and I think their efforts would please your own Tech staff. First they kept the IS-Endo and IS-FFA and replaced the Fusion Engine with a 380 class Light Fusion Engine (They had one laying around in storage). They added a 4th Jump Jet to the Mech, shifting all jump jets to both legs. They replaced the cockpit with a Small Cockpit, and added an Clan AMS with a ton of ammo in the extra 'slots'. From there, they increased the Heat Sinkage the Mech using Clan Double Strength Heat Sinks, up to a total of 19 C-DSHS. A Clan ER PPC was emplaced into the Center Torso, and a pair of Clan ER Large Lasers were added to the Arms, one per arm. So far, this 'FrankenMech' has passed all field trials easily. 'Running and Gunning' the Mech only amounts to a heat burden of 41 (12, 12, 15, 2). Adding the heat generated by the AMS defensively firing only puts the Mech up to a total of 42 heat, which is 4 above the maximum cooling (38) of the Mech's 19 heat sinks. Not too shabby for a 'bodged together' frankenmech. The design should be relatively efficient for a pilot that knows how to ride the heat curve and unlink the PPC from time to time to allow the Mech to cool off. Or, fire only one of the ER Large Lasers for about half a minute during combat to get the same effect. The 16.5 tons of IS-FFA is about as much as the Mech's chassis can support, and gives very good armor protection to the unit. The addition of the 4th jump jet increases mobility in uneven terrain, and the use of Clan Double Sinks works nicely, but is rather costly. The use of a Light Fusion Engine is almost 'inspired'. I've already taken the Astech that suggested it out for an expensive dinner as a way to reward 'off the wall' solutions to problems. His first taste of Terran Snow Crab, imported from Terra itself, brought tears to his eyes, and a huge grin to his butter dripping face. I could not help laughing at his reaction. Although I do enjoy the expensive Terran Crab from time to time, I much prefer a good meal of Sea Spiders from the planet Montana (a recent Compact Member World, known for their 'beef' which comes from a dinosaur-like species on Montana. Also, Sea Spiders have twice as many legs... all tasty!). The Mek Werks version has been officially designated as the Peacekeeper PKP-1B-X1 for now. If the Legions request this unit for their combat forces, a couple of specialty manufacturers will get very rich supplying the demand on a limited basis. In that case, I suspect that the unit will be designated as the Peacekeeper PKP-1B (GL), Ghost Lions Legion Mech. Although I do not have a head for finances, I suspect that the X1 will prove to be less costly than any similar Peacekeeper Mech, or variant. If that is true, I suspect the Legions will want to add them to their forces as soon as the Mechs can be produced and shipped out to the Legions currently employed off-world. Your own variant of the Peacekeeper has the boys at the Mek Werks wanting a 2nd Peacekeeper to modify to your group's specifications and then 'test to destruction'. Boys and their toys. It never ends. Diana McFairlain, Head Mech Tech, Ghost Lions Legions Hellsport Mech Museum Stygian Compact
Hello Professor HeyTeeEn. Greetings from Hel. This is Diana McFairlain again. Those madmen over in the Mek Werks are at it again! One of the Ghost Lions Legions sent them a fully functional Galahad GLH-2D! Knowing them, I expected the worst, and was almost right. They stripped off the FFA entirely, replaced the 180 Standard Fusion Engine with an XL of the same energy output. They then shifted the internals a bit to make room for the added space required to fit three Inner Sphere, Double Strength Heat Sinks to give the Mech 10 IS-DSHS total. This left them with JUST enough space and weight to add 2 standard Medium Lasers (both located in the lower center torso for some odd reason) - (TECH ANDREWS HERE, CROTCH LASERS!!). The Mech still performs as per the standard GLH-2D and the over sinking does not seem to HURT the design, but is massively over-cooled. I mean, you could run this Mech at top speed across a lava field on Purgatory, the totally molten moon of Sheol (gas giant planet) without overheating. I honestly think that the Mech would melt before the XL Engine overheated in any way. On the 'plus' side, their design does give the GLH-2D a way to deal damage at close ranges and deal out damage to any Infantry that gets a bit too close for comfort. Personally, not to tell Andrews his job, I would have left out the Double Heat Sinks and just kept the old 'standard' single heat sinks. The Mech would be more 'cost-effective' without the added expense of the Doubles (ANDREWS: BUT RULE OF COOL!). Testing shows no ill effects of removing the FFA and increasing the Standard Armor coverage to 12.5 tons. Which still allows for the heat sinks and the two Medium Lasers. Ah, well... Boys and their toys (ANDREWS: DAMN RIGHT!). Keep a close eye upon your Techs Prof. Ya never know if they are going to do something as silly (ANDREWS: AWESOME!) as the ones I put up with here at the Hellsport Mech Museum. If you do choose to alter the Galahads coming into your facility, I suggest the XL Engine upgrade, but use single heat sinks, and add the Mediums to perhaps the left and right torso locations (ANDREWS: OH, NOT COOL). Hoping to hear from you soon, Diana McFairlain, Head Mech Tech, Ghost Lions Legions Hellsport Mech Museum Stygian Compact
Quads have their issues, but the Goliath can put in solid work, and fire support roles seem to be what Quads do best.
It is one of those odd mech which evolves very well.
I like to think of the Summoner as it's movement profile and armor. I prefer to do a simple refit of either removing a pair of heatsinks from the engine to pack in more ammo or if that's not possible, swapping the LBX10 for a Large Pulse Laser and some ammo. Fill in the remaining tonnage as the mission requires. A favorite of mine since my Mechcommander days.
@@jamesc.7216 you can't refit an OmniMech components, only things which could be in pods. The video games often do that very poorly.
@ProfessorHeyTeeEn I know that's how it's supposed to work, a man can dream though. That's why I brought up the Large Pulse Laser refit. If we are sticking strictly to cannon I also love the UAC20 version. Nothing like a highly mobile 40 damage to your back armor!

@@ProfessorHeyTeeEn See, that's fine because it's not a downgrade. All good!
It works 70 tons of pain 😅
@@JosephMitchell-zw3db It might not be the most modern and advanced design, but it keeps trucking. That is all that matters.
The Summoner with a minor refit is exceptional. Namely, getting back several tons of pod by making the jump jets and engine-attached heat sinks into pods. Quite impactful.
@@christopherpurches2774 I am okay with the heat sinks fit in the engine being out of the pods. 14 doubles gives you a cooling index of 28, which you will likely use with all your Clan weapons. Jump Jets though? Allllllllwaaaaaaaaayyyyyys in pods (unless you can't figure out how to make it work).
@ProfessorHeyTeeEn first gen engineers had issues with those pod mounts. Having the engine heat pod-mounted means if you are running a low-heat loadout (gauss and/or missiles), you can pack in more ammo and stray a touch further from supply lines. Who could hate a double-HAG Summoner? Certainly not the Hell's Horses.
Hello Prof. Excellent video on the Summoner-Thor Mech. I am quite familiar with the Mech and most of its variants because I faced them during and after the Clan Invasion. Even though I collected a lot of scrap from such Mechs, I usually traded them away to other groups for Mech types I found more useful and easier to modify to my combat preferences. Being a Merc constrains one's decision tree a bit when it comes to things like this. Even though the Mech is easily repaired and put back into action, I just could not justify keeping the vast amount of spares on hand to keep the Summoner in service with my forces at the time. I did keep a few, and did field them, with my pilots singing its praises, but I still sold off most of those recovered in battle since I was being paid premium prices for even damaged parts by several purchasers from the Great Houses. You should understand that to a Mercenary, the C-Bill is king, and no matter what you desire, cost balances all your decisions. Yes, I would have liked to keep more in service with my group. But, the kinds of prices I was getting for salvage was not something I could ignore as a 'good commander'. Leonidas Alexander Granger Commander, Star Lions Corps
Before fielding this mech, its mandatory to shout "you dare to refuse my batchall?!"
Why does an omni mech have fixed JJ?
1st Generation Omnimechs generally had fixed JJ. I am guessing it was a construction rules thing when they were introduced and they just baked it into lore. Grand Summoner has pods. Easy enough to do a refit/update kit.
Why no one did the simple refit of exchanging the primes' ER PPC's with Large Pulse Lasers surprises me. It solves the heat problem and gives a higher chance of hits on target.
Personally, I'd recommend swapping the LB10X of the prime out for a Hag 20, a plasma rifle, or a large pulse laser. HAG 20 keeps the same endurance, but it boosts the range and doubles the scatter blasting. Plasma Rifle is a nice new multifunction weapon that sheds a fair amount of weight compared to the LB10X, allowing for more ammo, though it does run hotter and have less range. LPL means you save weight on the weapon and skipping the ammo concern for that mounting, while also increasing range, but it lacks both dual nature and scatter damage, just being a good main gun that punches big holes reliably.
Not really. Vs vehicles and aerospace assets the LBX is better.
@@dwwolf4636 No, the HAG is a plendid bird hunter. Against vehicles, though, I am in full agreement.
Good to know.
They did in fact refuse my batchall. These dezgra inner sphere free births shall be shown no mercy.
Can I have a Summoner Prime that swaps the LB-10X for another ER PPC and some heat sinks?
@@Wraithcannon That's basically the U configuration, but they put a Targeting Computer instead of the heat sinks. Pretty sure you could swap it out.
@@ProfessorHeyTeeEn Don't forget to swap out the underwater gear for normal operations.
@@bthsr7113 Really just a torp rack for LRM rack, nothing hard or complex.
I like to use a config with 2 ER PPC, 3 SRM6 with 2 tons ammo and 4 extra DHS. Great sniping all day long and when you get close to exploit those holes, the SRMs do great work.
This is one of the few Clan Mechs were I like the Inner Sphere name better, I just wish the in-universe origin story for that name wasn't so stupid
I'm personally not a fan of Clan Katana Bird's walking fridge. The omnipods lack options and I need more dakka. The jumpjets are a pretty good bonus at least.
One of my favorite Omni's
I love the Thunderbolt IIc
That's an actual mech of its own. It has streak LRM and heavy lasers. So I'm not interested, but it is still it's own design distinct from the Thor.
You could almost call it a Wolverine IIC from the setup. 5/8/5 movement, jump jets, standard model has an autocannon with one ton of ammo, an energy weapon, and a missile rack with one ton of ammo. Just 70 tons for structure and armor, and more punch across the board. Especially in the energy weapon department.
@ackbar3125 How dare you use such a Blasphemous word amongst our noble.clan brethren! I challenge you to a trial of equals!
@@MrDmitriRavenoff >challenging our Lord and Savior Estaban El Amarisogsky to a challenge
Its either a thunderbolt or griffin, but omnimech
My biggest complaint is that by reducing its capability from the "Mk. 1" playtest model, it makes very little sense outside of a BV match, which I despise. The default config has one ton of ammo for a variable-ammo weapon system (LBx AC). They should have maxxed the armor, left the "hip-mounted" SRMs, and added a ton of AC ammo. Minor correction: the Prime has *2* tons of LRM ammo, one of LBx.
Cool thanks 😅
Maybe I missed it, but there isn't a variant with a targeting computer to take advantage of the direct-fire energy weapons in a brawler configuration?
@@Mr._Anderpson with how many configurations I have looked at over the last few weeks, I would have to reread my notes to tell you. I am taking a break from those marathons next week lol.

@JuNkBoYcaNNoN bargained and done
I agree that the Mist Lynx or Ka'shy is a cross between mechs like the commando, wasp, and stinger. It is a remarkable scout mech. The games I have played with it have me missing that last jump jet. The last jump jet really does not matter when your playing with smoke in your tactical tool kit. Good review.
As assault mech should act like an assault mech, Agreed. Now to find someone to tell me the Highlander isn't an assault mech worthy of the name. While I understand techs hate leaping assault mechs, you haven't lived until you've planted your feet through an enemy's cockpit.
@@Mr._Anderpson The Highlander and Highlander IIC still "mostly" behave like assault mecha, just with a bit of extra mobility.
@@ProfessorHeyTeeEn Gotcha, Professor. Its my personal bias. I'm a Ghost Bear at heart. Few things make me happier than seeing just how fast and how high you can propel a machine. MASC, superchargers, improved jump jets? Yes please, all you can give me.
