Pumas are nasty little bastards, but I love them and the Cougar just for making a miniature heavy mech. Anyone picks up either mech at range and knows what they are is guaranteed to have second thoughts about climbing out of bed that morning.
I love the Adder. I cut my teeth on a Cougar on Helois when I served on the Icarus with the Dragoons when I was a younger man lol I look forward to vids on the Cougar and Pouncer
Greetings Prof HyTeeEn. The Stygian Compact's Mech Museum and Mek Werks (not mis-spelled. The Founder was a former Steiner citizen) has done extensive testing upon the Star Adder Mech design, using units captured or traded for for testing purposes. Both groups agree with your assessment that the variant with the Streak LRM-5s is not 'optimal', and should never see the light of day if the fielding unit can possibly configure a damaged Adder with some other variant's weapons load out. The Hellsport Mek Werks has been experimenting with a variant of the Star Adder - Puma Mech design lately. One that dispenses with the ER Large Laser and 'doubles down' on the Machine guns. This variant mounts Clan Heavy MGs instead of the 'standard' ones for anti-infantry hunting and for use against Battle Armor. The Mech's engine has been reduced to a movement profile of 5-8-0 currently, and might even be slowed further to 4-6-0 to enable the Mech to mount sufficient Jump Jets to make it more mobile. The foreseen use for the proposed changes being made is to modify this chassis to become a 'City Fighter' Mech. One able to maneuver in the tight confines of your standard town or city, and to hunt down hidden Infantry units. For this, the Mech mounts an Active Probe, and a ECM system. Some foreseeable modifications may include using a smaller cockpit as well. In addition, the Mech is mounted with an AMS system with a half ton of reloads to deal with Infantry SRM attacks. Although the proposed redesign slows the original's speed considerably, the 'trade off' in Anti-Infantry ability is enhanced, as is the overall protection of the unit. This is a 'passion' project for the Mek Werks and not one officially sanctioned. Most of the Techs and Astechs working on it are doing so 'off the clock' in their spare time. This includes, for some reason, the consumption of large quantities of beer and other alcoholic beverages and loud arguments in local 'watering holes'. This does NOT violate 'secrecy' protocols, since all the sites used for such 'discussions' are within the Reservation used by the Hellsport Mech Museum and the Mek Werks, so security is not compromised. What few 'civilians' are employed at either site are those with sufficient security clearances, or, for the most part, former Military personnel who have maintained their security clearances. Security, itself, is mostly amused by the discussions. They feel that the Techs are treating Clan tech like ancient "Legos" (where in the nine Hells did they come up with THAT??!!). Diana McFairlain, Head Mech Tech, Ghost Lions Legions Hellsport Mech Museum Stygian Compact Post Script: The old Star Lions Corps did something similar, way back in the 3030s, when they designed the KTT-3N (Kitten) Battlemech. The KTT-3N was a 40 ton Mech for 'city fighting' (please remember that the only tech available was 4th Succession war Era at the time). It mounted 5 standard medium lasers and 10 MGs. The MGs being fed with a full ton of MG ammo (200 'shots, thus 20 'salvos' of weapons fire). Movement rating was 4-6-4, enabling it to easily jump over most urban buildings to 'pounce' upon its targets. The standard attack profile was to jump over a building to a point close-in behind an Enemy vehicle or Mech, fire all five Medium Lasers, and then unload a barrage from its 10 MGs into the already damaged, or totally removed, rear armor. This proved so effective that Enemy units finding out that 'Kittens' were deployed, would dedicate massive amounts of resources to hunting down and destroying any KTT-3N they could find. By doing so, the Enemy would grant the Defending units time to organize, or delay an attack upon a main objective long enough for reinforcements to arrive. KTT-3Ns proved very good at the 'Anti-Infantry' role, as well as their leaping 'back-stabbing' attacks. Of note, is that the KTT-3N was also 'cost effective', in that it was very inexpensive to build and maintain, with good parts availability and very good weapons reliability as well.
Why no one did the simple refit of exchanging the primes' ER PPC's with Large Pulse Lasers surprises me. It solves the heat problem and gives a higher chance of hits on target.
It is respectable that the adder can threaten the 275 bracket as you said. But it costs the same as a black knight depending on how cheap you're willing to go with it. And I know which one I'd back in a fight. And fill my ranks with.
The Pocket Marauder
Now replace the ERPPCs with large pulse lasers for similar sustained damage output but vastly more hits on the target!
@@robertmartinu8803 You lose on headcap potential, and aimed shots.
I do approve of that layout, however.
Or go with one of each
@@DIEGhostfishhow dare you recommend compromise. Not in 2024! No sir
