The one thing the Hellspawn brings that none of the other medium troopers that the AFFS has available, is many versions that mount Guardian ECM. But that basically gives it an amazingly tiny niche. Though I am sure others can suggest some other good ECM carrying AFFS mechs. With that said though, I always liked the look of the Hellspawn. Whomever came up with that design did great work.
@@ADobbin1 Created the standard high power, low heat fusion engine. Lived off the royalties of it for the longest time, then became the SLDF big supplier for weaponry. As the Star League collapsed, they moved to have a very close association with the Federated Suns, who they partially bankrolled. I might do a video on GM if I ever get more details to talk about.
It's a nice fast support, skirmish and cavalry mech. A bit light on armour, but it can deal with lights and mediums and can get out of range of heavies and assaults fast.
In Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries, Hellspawn was one of my hands down go-to workhorse picks in Solaris 7 games. Its default loadout is trash, but I had a great time shredding foes
The 3C Trebuchet is a better value than the Hellspawn, IMO. Same ground speed but it has LRM-15s. It also uses the Vlar 300XL engine, which as you have pointed out can be easily sourced.
Oooo baby one of my Medium favorites right here. You need to go for the Chimera soon. That thing is a fun beast. MRM jumpy boy, that really needs to drop the MG.
I like the Hellspawn. It fills the same role as a lot of other mechs, but does bring some unique characteristics compared to any one of its rivals. Perfect? No. Perfectly adequate? Yes.
Really though, 3 Whitworth 1s costs just a few more C-Bills than one Hellspawn, giving you three times the bodies and three times the missile tubes. And each Whitworth has 8 tons of standard armor, vs the Hellspawn's 6.5
All of that batch of designs were kind of awkward including the Thanatos and Uziel both mechs I really like (even with a full weapons refit required for the Uziel) as for the Hellspawn I never found a role it fit in well enough to be worth it but being a specialty LRM ammo carrier sounds good for it, a specialty SRM/narc ammo carrier would be even better but it lacks the armour for that.

I just think its wild that GM has survived for 2k years.

Love it uparmored with medium lasers and srms. Cheaper but doesnt feel that downgraded

The only fire support medium that can supplant the Whitworth in my heart.
This thing is amazing for what it is.
Whitworth can tank hits. Hellspawn best not be hit.
Sad Trebuchet noises

To sure I'd call it a trooper mech. Those tend to be pretty tough and affordable

Not enough ammo, but at least you can run away when you run out. The series 8 solved that issue
I enjoy all of Professor HeyTeeEn videos 🎉🎉🎉😅😊
What a thoroughly and competently adequate machine!
A is for AVERAGE! (No, it's techincally for AWESOME, but in this case you know...)
Give me my Dervish! Not the crazy upgraded one, just the 7D with a minor Streak missile ammo to armor swap.

3 for 1 means the Whitworthless are cheap, and it shows.

Having 10 Hornets is better then having 1 Atlas.

I wonder if a cheaper version of the Hellspawn that is still faster than the Whitworth could be effectively produced?
The hellspawn seems to Dragon better than the Dragon.
