Clan warriors may have held an aversion to physical strikes with a mech, but that is swiftly changing. Nothing is more honorable than victory. A good example is one of my favorite heavy mechs in later timelines, the Karhu. It is produced by that quirky union of the Ghost Bears & Rasalhague. It is fast, super maneuverable due its improved jump jets, and it has a three-pronged retractable blade in the right arm. I love a swift heavy or assault mech to mix it up by closing range faster than the defenders anticipate.
Configuration K is fine, it was built by Clan Hells Horses, in response to Clan Jade Falcons move to using physical attacks. Note the Talons/Claws on many newer Jade Falcon machines. It is a bit of a beast. The old rules are going out the window, as the Clans adapt. CSO Archer
I love the fact that this started with what sounded like a semi-drunken wolf howl. The gargoyle… what happens when the scientist caste gets in the liquor cabinet.
I tried a custom Gargoyle in a 1-v-1 with my brother once on tabletop. I removed the AC-5s and replaced them with a pair of ER PPCs, linked the PPCs and SRMs to a targeting computer, and added a couple extra ER small lasers to fill out the tonnage. It worked better than I thought it would, basically played like a Thug.
This is a mech that shouldn’t be in assault stars, it should be skirmish, cavalry type stars where its speed keeps up with those lighter elements. It can bully smaller mechs with similar speeds. The Prime is actually quite good for its BV, shining in the later turns on the table top
@@dwwolf4636 true, but you have configs for serious combat and other configs for flexing on people during honor duels. But even the Prime can deliver a considerable amount of damage up close; 24 sandblasting damage from the SRMs, 10 damage from the dual LB5X, and 5 damage from the emotional support laser isn’t anything to sneeze at.
It's a Charger built by the clans, but because of their hangups, it mostly lacks the strengths of the Charger.... though in fairness, the Charger didn't really shine as Floridamech until after Kerensky left, and this is a decent loadout for the kind of "Dirty War" that Tex believes was the true design goal of the Charger. Unfortunately, this is a MUCH more expensive platform for that goal, and the Charger wasn't exactly cheap in the first place. The arm focus does make it easier to effectively disable you, but between carrying battle armor and getting more accuracy, I get it. The K is when the true yeehaw Floridaman energy is actually emulated, and woe to those who it hits.
The Gargoyle CAN shine in some situations, especially when equipped with braces of pulse lasers. 21 tons of equipment can make it a threat, unlike the two and a half of the Charger.
@@ProfessorHeyTeeEn The problems with it being the Charger heir are the price and the lack of the Barrel Fist quirk. It can't be a replaceable boxer. Still, it is effective at running around and punching down, just not literally punching. Or you can deviate from the Prime to get an actual cavalry mech, mobile sniper, or do what 90% of charger Pilots couldn't afford to even dream of and go choppy chop chop with disco doom and SRMs.
The A pods seem like a potentially useful panic button for urban operations in hostile territory... buuuuut a small pulse laser would be reusable a lot more than 2 times, and if you install a micropulse laser or flamer, then you still have an extra ton of ammo.
They call it a gargoyle and it doesn't have any locked jump jets.... The Manhattan Clan does not support this name. Edit: But some of these configurations are quite nasty.
Love this thing. Do not underestimate its stabilized arm weapons and speed. I THINK one of them had a targeting computer, but maybe memory playing tricks. All I know is playing with them (Clan invasion versions) they performed admirably. Speedy git hunter and oppurtunist mixed with distraction carnifex. Even if I loathe the Prime but that is my distaste for AC5s.
Stabilized arms is a great quirk, the problem comes with the Prime being so lackluster (while other configurations are better). The super low BV cost of the Prime DOES make it quite good however.
Really not a bad mech at all, just most of it's standardized configs were horrible and not only failed to utilize its advantages but often seemed dead set on ignoring or downplaying them...
The Victor's jump capability is what differentiates it at that conjuncture. It can serve as a cavalry commander or a mobile commander, while the Gargoyle is more of a front-line battering ram.
The gargoyle is an excellent taxi for elementals, for this dont ha e weapons like the missiles of the timberwolf(a worst taxi). Gargoyle seem tom me a mech who work good in team than duel like most clan mech
I always hated the Gargoyle, ever since MW2 when I first saw it. It's "face" feature is ugly without being intimidating like an Atlas or Banshee, it's under armored and under gunned because the weight costs of a 400 engine just isn't worth the diminishing returns, almost all it's weapons are arm mounted, and it's less than stellar armor means you're probably losing them early on. A 75 ton Omni (like -ugh- yes, the Timberwolf) goes the same speed, with more armor and more pod space, for less overall tonnage.
The big problem with the Gargoyle are the 6 double heat sinks which can't be removed. I made a custom variant once using endosteel and removed the extra double heatsinks, added more ammo, ecm, laser ams, Artemis, and maxed out the armor. It murders mediums and most heavies, but against other assaults not so much xD.
They call it the Man o' War to honor a Jellyfish, because like the Jellyfish it is only a threat if you ignore it.
6:36 never underestimate the emotional support small laser 🙂.
Works for the 3025 Awesome and Hunchback.

Once a 80 tons can start punching and kicking, things get a lot more spicy in the fight.
The Jade Hawk is also a nasty CQB mech with claws, TSM, jump jets, partial wing, and quad SRM6 racks. Also 4 ERSL.

Now it just needs TSM added, maybe if they built the new version with Endo Steel and TSm they could even add Jump Jets or more armour.

SRMs can't be linked to a targeting computer though.
@schaddenkorp6977 That may have been an oversight on our part

Alexander Kerensky: "a mech as ugly as possible. As ugly as possible. And ... God this thing is ugly..."
Gotta wonder why they put LB5s in instead of ERPPCs.
IMO, it’s because fighting with a handicap in clanner dueling rituals nets you more honor. So an undergunned and under-optimized mech has a niche.
Canonically LB5Xs were REALLY good at taking out Aircraft, so maybe the Prime was meant as an anti Aerotech design?
Who cares ?
Omni-mech.

I'm guessing for swatting VTOL's. And maybe Civilian news choppers if the mech is owned by Smoke Jaguar.

The Gargoyle is a cool clan mech that somehow I've never used. Think I'm gonna have to change that sooner or later. 👍
Does anyone else think that not putting a command computer in the Gargoyle was a missed opportunity?. The clans ALMOST made the best command mech.
Is that even a thing for clans? I'm struggling to name a clan command mech

Ah the gargoyle a classic case of why not just go built more of its cousin aka the madcat
In lore or in TT? In TT, 1.3k BV for Gargoyle Prime is a lot less than 2.2k for Timberwolf Prime

Low tonnage allowed for weapons, average armor but decent speed. Perfect as a distraction Carnifex or something along those lines.
Honestly I wonder if the Gargoyle shouldn't just be used in place of the Victor as a more versatile option for a comparably sized mech.

Honestly a pointless mech, assault mechs just weren't made to go 5/8, even with an XL engine. Does nothing better than a summoner or timberwolf.
Summoner for sure. Timber Wolf, I am less sure. At least, based on standard configurations.
