hdmi ports on ps3 slims are so shit , they fail a lot compared to xbox 360 ports
I recapped 2 PU22 boards and it went pretty well. My first time installing all SMDs caps. Both my PS1s work like new!
Since the PU-8 motherboard has the unpopulated solder points for the few capacitors other components, and the DIN connector used by the S-video circuit of the earlier PU-7 board, do you know if anyone has tried retrofitting direct S-video to a PU-8? btw those unpopulated cap spots at 4:47 are for the S-video direct out circuit on the PU-7.
Idk what im watching, this is over my head, but it looks intresting af and im a gamer so def intrigued 😆😆, can someone tell me wtf im witnessing in dummy terms
yay
This is some very educational content you have. I'm more of a 360 guy but I do buy the occasional original xbox so I want to know what I'm doing before I tear one apart.
A consummate professional.
That was neat, I used to repair them for my friends and even started messing with the RAM chips and TSOPs when I was like 15. That was some very nice ball work man.
Top skills Top gear! Like Max Verstappen F1! Looks easy....
Amazing work. Despite being an electrical engineer, I only really trust myself with soldering through hole components. This was masterfully done
What can these modds provide sorry im new
Dude…
It's worth replacing the capacitors on a nintendo entertainment system
I need to know something. My Xbox has a bad clock capacitor and every time I connect the RJ45 Ethernet cable my screen flashes erratically but not constantly. Could it be a problem with that capacitor? If not, does anyone have any idea where the problem could be?
I bought a second hand blue PS1 from cash converters for about £50 back in the day. Was sold as a Japanese PS1. It plays all regions and 'backup' CD's as well. As far as I can remember, it wasn't a development console, just a retail Japanese PS1.
anyone try the led method for the clock cap?
Yea that gpu is toast. I’ve got a stack of boards like that. I also have 2 NOS gpu chips that go into those boards. But I need them for backup replacements for my arcade systems. I wish someone would find a way to mod the XBox boards to work in the Chihiro.
Boy does this bring me back to my days at Sega's Arcade Division
That’s awesome
Makes me think that I need to practice soldering.
You videos are very informative. Can you please describe what is polarity?
Mine ps2 fat console is old but completele clean and othervice working but disc drive only spins once and then stop. Like the wheal is lazy to run or is stuck. I have pretty much tried every you tube trick to try to fix it but nothing changes
Is there classes to learn about soldering and working things like this?
So you do repair on xbox consoles? Im interested in learning from this channel and also if i need a repair i would like to know if you offer repairs
my october manufactured xbox turned itself on a couple days ago. never been opened... guess its time to get it fixed..
Awesome video! Where did you get the Modxo from?
Is it possible to go behond 128mb?
The Sega Chihiro is notorious for the GPU to fail. It may be worthwhile getting a faulty board (1.4 revision or earlier) from online somewhere and doing a GPU swap.
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind when I revisit this unit.
@RetroRenegadeRepairs if it is the case of faulty GPU. I would certainly consider upgrading the cooling system in the Chihiro. Even if just an extra fan which blows across the heatsink (ideally with the larger Xbox heatsink added) or the upgraded larger Noctua aftermarket fan.
Time to clean those balls off 😂
I would almost bet money it has trace rot.
Are you gonna reball it?
This is not going to work. The chihiro use a different bridge chip similar to those used in genuine devkits, they use a first stage bootloader that is internal to the mcpx bridge chip, on normal Xboxes this first stage is external to the mcpx chip, which is why on normal Xboxes grounding dat0 point is enough to trigger modchip booting over lpc Edit: 2nd stage bootloader I meant to say - and by bridge chip I mean the mcpx2 in chihiro/devkits and it's mcpx3 in standard OG xboxes
That's a 1.0 factory fan. MS stopped installing them with 1.1
Looking forward to part two! Good luck
Kinda funny they just crammed an OG Xbox mobo just like that. Cuold that motherboard be used as a normal Xbox? Edit: ok, I commented before he went just to do that, I still had half a video to watch😅
No, different BIOS.
Chihiro is quite literally an Xbox. The Sega boards are just for I/O and providing power and video output for the "JVS" arcade standard. 128MB is standard. You're probably better off putting the stack back together and getting a proper power supply, a conversion harness, or hacking ATX yourself. You can figure this out easily online, look up "JVS wiring", it's 12V/3.3V/5V. Chihiro ONLY outputs 31KHz VGA AKA 640x480 video. It won't sync through a standard Xbox video cable. Just reconnect the stack, use VGA to HDMI and try again.
Thanks for the information. I'll probably build or order one of those cables and revisit this unit soon. I did see a few people booting this type of console using an XBOX dev bios and figured it was worth a try. NGL though, seeing the SEGA Chihiro logo seems like the more exciting and challenging route to take.
Exactly my thoughts too, I've an Xbox 1.1 doing the exact same, full recap, mod chip etc..
If you've got a secondary board, try measuring each part in circuit and see if you notice the difference of value, work from there. Any rotted traces also?
Just a thought - maybe the integration with the SEGA boards is tighter than it seems? Might it be that it's fragging just because it doesn't receive some signal or acknowledgement somewhere?
It's fragging for several reasons, including the JVS I/O not being connected (one of the "Sega boards" you mentioned)
@@lookitskazzy Indeed. It might be coded somewhere that the missing device on an usb port is a critical error, so no go. Although, I'm not sure where that logic would be living. Maybe it was bypassed with the modchip? I have no idea about the innards of chihiro at all, however there are all these suicide batteries powering RAM chips with decryption keys and so on, so everything goes in the arcade world.
@@Zoomer.88There is nothing on Chihiro that will "suicide" in terms of encryption. Just the usual clock cap nonsense on the Xbox board. You cannot bypass the I/O check with a mod chip. No I/O, no boot. Period. You can turn it into a retail Xbox with a bunch of modification, but what is the point? At that point just use retail board with 128MB and patched games, much easier. I'm not speculating on any of this by the way, I've owned and worked on many of these boards in the past.
@@Zoomer.88no such thing on Chihiro. This isn't speculation, I've owned and worked on these before. You need an I/O to boot. Mod chip won't bypass it. Only way around this is to basically turn it into a retail Xbox with a bunch of changes to the BIOS and several other ICs
my ? is wat ya want fora fully upgraded og box ready for boot
Part two?
I hope so, i want to see this up and running.
Half a video?
😂😂🤣🤣 Poor that Guy ! Running away from that XBox system 😮 just jokingly about it. 😊 that why 1/2 video😊. I would do same😮 jokingly about too.😊
First comment that came up. Didn’t bother watching. Thanks for heads up
What about Pentium M or the Xeon Pentium III 900Mhz w/ 2MB cache?
like it should have been out of the box it seems. lol
Do you know how to softmod.A ps1 to store games etc
Did you use a magnifier to do the small soldering points?
I would if you have one.
After he sprayed his balls off and looked at the camera i feel like we became one with each other 😅
Your awesome I wish I could have you build me an og Xbox? Would you be willing too you definitely know what your doing!!!
Would replacing the caps help with the disc tray coming out? Iv replaced the belt and I still have to touch the tray for it to wanna eject after hitting the button.
Some have said the motor could have issues due to power delivery. So replacing the caps may help if that's the case.
used your video to restore my own OG xbox, appreciate you showing steps and now just assuming we all have the knowledge before hand
Thank you. I'm glad you restored your XBOX using the video.
Come on! Put extra rams too😂😂😂😊 it give boot up quick too and etc!. See how smoothly go by.😊
I've done a couple of videos on that, so take a look around.
