That issue you have, (the first 12 cent issue) I found one on Ebay in a 6.0 for $500. You can get its first appearance on Ebay as well; (issue #87) in a 3.5 for $650. Never read any issues, but one of our tanks we had in a unit I was assigned to had that name painted on the side of it! So it must be a well known comic to tankers and Stephen. I have noticed that "buy it now vs bid" thing too. It happens on Heritage as well, but not exactly the same thing of course. I saw a ASM comic go 140 dollars over what the bidder could have paid for the same graded book on MCS. Some collectors must only go to one place to get their books, or are in love with the thought of "Getting a deal" at an auction, and must not do any research prior to the auction starting. I just bought a golden age comic. The entire front cover ink is about 1 mm off where it's supposed to be. It makes it look 3D. Do you know how common something like that is? Manufacturing error's often get higher prices. Would you expect something like this to warrant a markup on price? Thanks

I recently acquired Star Spangled Comics #89 in a 7.5 (only one in grade) for $590 A beautiful yellow cover & although the background is different, it's essentially a cover swipe of Batman #9 the iconic spotlight cover. Glad I was able to buy those Action's you talk about, before you talked about them. I always believed that that Action was the 1st app of the adult Bizarro, but thankfully it cost less than the Superboy #68. (Except #42, #180, haven't got those two, Jan 1957, #224 on is low enough, and dear enough, lol! )

There are other problems too. When Marvel rekt The Punisher, it signaled that the origin stories, no matter how awesome, could also be creatively destroyed by management. A lot of characters are subject to this risk. Maybe they have learned “go woke, go broke.” But this risk is now a non-zero number, and the “universe” is full of stronger characters that would be targets for softening. Also the demographics for collectors is getting older and they are more likely sellers than buyers as they retire.

Very nice comics. Regarding Matt Baker, I would assume he transformed the ladies he drew into the type of women he liked. I think that would make sense. I wonder if he was a "ladies man", or a guy that just wished he was one?

You'll LOVE that Action Comics issue with Big Barda and the Sleaze. There's a panel in the first one with Big Barda dancing for Sleaze wearing a harem costume. I bought that as a kid back in the day and, let's just say it became one of my favourite comic books!

Hey Allan, I was intensely putting together a super high-end Simpson collection back in 2012-2014. I was a completionist back then but I stopped purchasing them about a year and a half before the last issue was released. These books, numbering around 400, include the main series (#1 to over 200), as well as all the subsets like Treehouse of Horror, Radioactive Man ect. Plus, all the hard to find randoms like the butterfingers mini variant of Simpson Comics and Stories #1 which they say could have been in the public even before the regular size version, and some of limited release European versions of Treehouse of Horror. This collection of raw books, bagged and boarded with mylars, has a conservative average grade of 9.4! Does this collection interest you, for your son? I live in Kingston Ontario.
