Nice mix of comicbook pickups. It confuses me on how CGC grades. I thought they would have given the Chamber of Chills an incomplete grade. I may be wrong, but thought seeing books with cut-out coupons and stamps etc. getting this type of graded designation. Regardless, nice pickups! 😊😊

Since you mentioned it : Oni Press is the one doing the upcoming EC "revival" comics. You'll probably end up buying them. 😀

Regarding your Infinity covers you probably would like the Bruce Lee movie enter the dragon where they have the big battle in the mirrored room. It was also in the movie Peter Gunn. The Harlem Globetrotters had an animated series when I was a kid.

Other than the bumps of learning the ins and outs of the hobby (which is a lot imho) my biggest mistake was buying "placeholder" books just to have a copy when I knew eventually I'd get better copies. Then when I did get the better book it's a pain in the neck to try and get back what you put into the "placeholder". I now wait it out til I can get the better grade.

I've never experienced FOMO or Seller's remorse. Decades ago, I realized that chasing trendy books rarely pays off in the long run-they often lose their value over time. Once I decide to sell a book, I don't dwell on it; I've already received what I deemed fair or had no interest in keeping it. Instead, I focus on acquiring books I believe will retain or increase in value over the years. I enhance my collection by carefully selecting and improving books, particularly those I can restore to a high grade through cleaning and pressing.

I seem to recall that you collct comics made from TV shows as well as golden and silver age horror comics. What, if any, horror comics from TV shows might you have in your collection?

I used to watch The Harlem Globetrotters TV show on Saturday mornings as a kid. The only two names I can remember are Curly Neal and Meadowlark Lemon.

I actually mentioned Darkstalkers to you before, including the character Morrigan who is on the cover. That franchise is better known for its videogames. There are also Darkstalkers comics produced by Udon Comics.

Sounds like you’re confusing collecting with investing. Collectors, those that buy a book for the love of it, should never regret buying that book. Buy what you love and you’ll always enjoy the hobby. If you’re buying things you don’t love for the purpose of making money on them, you’ll probably have regrets. Avoid fomo. If you buy new books and the book goes to $40-$50 quickly (Doom #1) you should sell it immediately if your goal is to make money.

There's a sergeant in beetle bailey also. The Nam is a pretty good war title. The silver surfer book has a great balance to it.The way things are laid out on the page. I think that's what makes it so appealing.

I find it helpful, if I'm hot & heavey on an issue, I pick up a cheap reprint or Tpb. That way I've read it and can wait on deals... thay way (for me!!) the pressure is off... For me that helps...!!

You sorta seem to be beating up your 17 yrs old self for not having your present insight in the ways and means of comics... You ENJOYED your first books, you had fun and learned stuff... The Hobby is supposed to be a joy to you. Not another Job!!

Great list, im sure most of us have done all of the above. One of my mistakes is lacking focus. One week ill be all about cool cover art, the next week ill be looking for first appearances, and just last week i decided out of nowhere to start plugging holes in my Spawn run. I have adopted a similar model to Automatic Comics in that i only buy the big books with proceeds from selling other stuff. I find it mostly keeps me out of the over spending trap, though sometimes it just means i gotta sell some books sooner than i had planned.

That Fight Comics is one of those that is kind of creepy. If you notice the line he's cutting with his sword, if cut, means her entire body would actually get stretched by the tree trying to straighten since the top of the tree is no longer being restrained by the rope tying it to the ground. She won't get flung, but stretched pretty painfully, if not critically, since her arms are still tied to the tree. She'll basically end up being the rope that tries to keep the tree bent. Ouch.... war is sick. I didn't even notice until now the guy doing the cutting got shot and is spewing blood out of his chest. So maybe she's saved and I can buy it now. lol. Nice comics... that Schomburg war cover is nuts.

Hello there greetings from Denver Colorado. Spent four days at the Denver fan expo. quite a few really neat comics perhaps the best comic dealers they’ve had. There was quite a lot of golden age I was able to pick up two Jack Kamen GGA cover books. there were deals to be had and there were neat books to be purchased.

Hi Allan, Quick question What do you think the fair market value of a Mary Marvel Comics no. 17 at about a 1.0 condition, with a very faded cover --probably the colors were "bleached out" from sunlight exposure--and also pencil writing on the cover--would be?

The best way to get a realistic value of your collection is to sell a portion of it - most people vastly overestimate the value of their collection. The time/work involved in selling your collection is enormous and if you sell to a dealer you will be lucky if recover 40 or 45% of your purchase cost. 💲

Too bad we can’t quantify how many new readers came into comics because of the superhero movies. Your hobby of speculating is a risky thing and can easily topple over if the economy goes bad

The notion of collecting scarcity is not what this hobby is about. Glad you've made the decision to collect rare books but many collect nostalgia and art from their collecting Era. That's not a mistake.

That MMC56 4.0 was purchased from Heritage by mycomicshop and then they listed it on their site for 3200 and it sold pretty quick. 2600 for Startling Terror Tales #11 1.0 is a lot! There's a 2.0 in the mycomicshop July Prime auction.

To be honest if i can buy a reprint of a trade with the story in im happy comics are meant to br read and enjoyed. Plus ive been trying to sell my comics for a while already dropped prices not wanting much even 50 pencr here in the uk. No body wants them. Im giving a lot of my collection to friends at the moment Another of my freinds who had even more comics then me says all we really have is a binch of bonnie looking fure lighters. Only thing that i can be happy about is i bought them to enjoy not to make money from them And thats what the hobby should be about enjoying and reading them. Take care everyone and peace

Love the Barbarella suggestion. Don't forget the 1st appearance (in english) is published in Evergreen Review #37-39 (1965-1966) and the 1st original story in English was Heavy Metal (vol. 1) #11 through (vol. 2) #3 (1978). Great and under appreciated stuff.

Slabbing has so overinflated prices that most people cant afford the books.

The main problem is most collectors cant afford the books. Slabbing is ruining the industry. There is no way that uf4 is worth that much. It was a mass produced book.

I agree that comic movies are getting worse. Marvel needs to quit pumping out garbage like eternals and black panther 2 and shang chi. Eternals should have just followed the Kirby stories from the 70s. BP2 should have left Namor as he was in the comics. Shang Chi should have just been a gritty movie where he fought street level crime. The biggest reason for the failure of the mcu is catering to the woke crowd and making everything diverse and race swapping characters

Biggest mistake is to let any woman get between you and your love of your hobby…. My other half is very supportive of me and my collection and it’s about respecting the other’s hobbies in what makes them happy. It really saddens me to hear you sold your books.. 🥲

If i were you, I would go into a comicbook fasting mode for half a year and spend the money on really improving my life. Instead of buying comics to get that dopamine hit and "feel good" why not take your family for a trip abroad? Take your wife and kids to Hawaii, Greece, Tokyo, Bangkok, etc.. Maybe rather than spending comics on money,, for once spend it on good clothes, on skin care. Spend that money on a good hair transplant. You'll feel attractive for once. Maybe spend that money for a gym membership...Think about it, you just look at comics. That's all the experience they give to you. They are just wall displays and your addiction to wall displays is out of control. Spend your money elsewhere, on your family, on things that will improve your physique and you'll find genuine happiness.

I think you shouldn't have bought too many slabbed comics. INon comic collectors and ordinary people dont see golden age comic books as high value. They just see it as comics that their grandparents' read. People who dont know comics will think that each of your slabbed golden age comic book just costs a dollar a piece. Most golden age comics arent that popular.

Star Wars is inspired by Manga too. Inspired by the Samurai. Kevin Eastman and Peter laird was inspired by Japanese culture when they created the Teenage Mutant NInja Turtles.

The West has ALWAYS been inspired by Eastern art (Japanese art). Vincent Van Gogh was inspired by the Japanese style of painting. Popular comic book artists like Moebius and the Founders of Image comics was inspired by Manga.
