The stage was pretty simple, first you crushed a 7.62x39mm case to the same size as a 9mm (simulating a AK rivet) and then you engaged 5 targets on the right, 5 on the left and the 3 at the back one of which was a swinger activated by the handle at the start of the stage. All your mags were only loaded with 10 rounds each and the scoring for the competition was 2 hits anywhere or a minimum of 1...

1916 manufacture. Matching bolt and receiver, nose cap. Brass barrel band, magazine cut off, original adjustable rear sight. Butt is dated 1941, barrel dated 5/44. Shoots great, could be better but my old eyes aren’t what they used to be but 20 rounds at 100 yards in a 4x4 group isn’t too bad. Have 2 Australian manufactured bayonets for it, one has an edge on the top of the blade. Not seen that before. Educational video, thank you.

'41 Lithgow that was FTR'd in '47 and probably not shot much if at all after that. It has the windowed front sight protectors and the copper recoil pads fitted to the coachwood stock. The reciever, bolt and barrell are all matching. I have a matching '42 bayonet as well. It's my favorite SMLE. I have a second '45, but that's a John Jovino import and made of refinished random parts on a heavily sanded stock. Still fun to shoot though, and without any "real" historical value as a parts gun, I don't feel guilty doing it!

Mine was made in 1917 by Lithgow. It's in good shape. I bought it for $200 back in California around 1997. Shoots great. It came with three 10 round mags and 10 stripper clips. Not bad. Great video.

I've just acquired a SMLE 3 1941 in very good condition, im looking forward to my first day on the range, our range was used by the military back in the day to train our troops so my 303 may be doing a full circle of its life.

wtf are you talking about adf mate? ADf never used Enfields, possibly not even L1A1. ADf is only new mercenary entity on the block. I have owned an old 303 enfield, trained on the Owen, Bren, & Enfield, to name a few older weapons.

I love this! Even here in the US .303 is expensive to get and reload. I am going to have to find a junker No. 3 or 4 and build one. Do you have any drawings of the modifications you made.

I have one of these Lthgow SMLEs. It is marked Lithgow MK 1 SMLE lll* and the date under it is 19** worn down; might be 1914. The serial number on the right side of the breech is 44757. The broad arrows on the other side are not tip to tip, but one forward and one up. There are no marks on the top of the breech and no broad arrows. It has the D up arrow D and crossed flags L P over and under which are the Australian designated according to the book I have. There are three large letters to the right of the top on the breach F.T.R. There are other inspection marks on the rifle. The sight ladder inclinator wheel pushes in with good spring tension, but I cannot elevate the sight. Something seems stuck and I have not used any force to try harder as of yet. The action and barrel are very good. Same reddish stock but no date on it. Brass butt place and an S on the top of the stock just in front of the butt plate. This is one of the imports into the US and it has - IA CO SAC CA and - Austrailia 303 - mark on the rear of the bolt breach. I think this is the import mark and SAC CA is for Sacramento California, which is where I bought it at a gun show in 1999. As I understood it, these rifles were refurbished and inspected for sale in the US market back in the 1960s. The barrel seems very good although the grooves are very dirty as described. I have cleaned and cleaned and still get brown patches out of it. The lands shine but the grooves are dark (but very square). The crown looks brand new gunmetal factory "bluing," not any sign of wear or the slightest nick. I have not fired this rifle although I've owned it since 1999 and I am now wondering what the H I have. My guess is that it was refurbished with a new barrel in the 50s and sat around until I bought it. If anyone has any ideas about this rifle and how to safely loosen up the sight elevation adjuster, I'd appreciate suggestions. I also have a scoped, sporterized Ishapore SMLE and it is very accurate.

Only the one's chambered in 22 short were gallery gun's the others were chambered in in 22 long rifle and were trappers favorite and one should use 22 long rifle std ammo in them only not high velocity ammo! Also the take down thumb screw should not be able to be removed as it could be lost in the field for ever!!! At 70 years old I have one giving to me by my great uncle at 10 years old and I know then inside and out as I've accumulated and work on many of these they are a wonderful gun design by Patterson !!!

The rifle design that may have replaced the SMLE before ww1 with the p-13 with enfield 276. Always found it interesting that the Americans didn't like using a British design in the m-1917 but redesigned the springfield with the A3 variant taking all the features from the m-1917 after ww1.

A couple of things : The bolt head pin was prone to cracking so all target rifles needed to be retrofitted with a thicker diameter pin for competition use, you can see if it has been done because the pin was noticably thicker than factory. The other common modification was to mill a bolt removal groove at the bolt head end of the bolt. This way you pulled the bolt to the rearmost position and then rotated the handle up to the vertical position and you could remove the bolt.

Odd to have this come up in my TH-cam feed this evening. I competed with an Omark 44 and aperture sight at the Belmomt range in Brisbane back in the 1970s. While cleaning my current M98 actioned scoped .308 this afternoon I had a few memories of V Bulls at the longer ranges and had serious thoughts of trying to find one.

Indeed, Ishapore can be…. somewhat sketchy, at times. I have owned a couple of them that were excellent quality. Others….. 😬… I had one from, if I remember right, 1931? It had its matching number bolt, which DIDN’T match! It was only locking on the small lug, there was a visible gap between the solid rib and the locking shoulder on the action body. This is extremely dangerous, I can only assume that when the rifle went through FTR, someone just stamped the serial number on a random bolt, and stuck it in, with no fitting up.

Hello. I recently bought one and, if you’ve ever seen a lee enfield Jungle Carbine, mine is built like that. I don’t know what that means yet, and I can’t find the issue mark. It’s a 1942 production and is number matching. It shoots amazing and the bore looks great but it looks like it went through hell. And I want to know why, or when. Any ideas on what to do? Problem is 1 man makes a stand & he’s written of as a terrorist , nobody else seems to really care . Down here licensed shooters tend to care only about themselves & keeping their license. If one becomes a “ unfit & proper person “ for any slightest of misdemeanours they tend to alienated by licence holders, that don’t wanta be guilty by Association . There’s never ending tightening of disarmament in this country. An extremely sad state of affairs.

@@concernedaussie1330 you need to start community organizing and building a cooperative community of gun owners. thats your main problem i think. you dont have something like the NRA. not that the NRA is all that great anymore, they used to be but now there are far better advocacy groups in the USA than them.

    • @concernedaussie1330
      @concernedaussie1330 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@user-im6fy4qp6m the different groups are played off against each other & a lot has to do with wealth . The richy rich side with each other & they buy themselves into the land owners & business owners / pest controllers side of things & can afford lawyers & barristers & don’t see the working man’s issues , or care . It’s a big job mate . I’m more thinking of a need for a civilian volunteer military force / kinda avenue . As we are basically defenceless atm . Our military can’t retain or recruit enough people to join our defence force. Let alone our abortion of procurement of hardware & equipment. We’ve spent over a decades worth or defensive funding on stuff we won’t even see till the earliest 2033 . $$$$$ are one thing , but we can’t get back time . It seems to me deliberate disarmament imo . The average citizen really doesn’t care or understand what’s going on in the world. They may just get jolted into gear & out of desperation of avoiding conscription, might get vocal about a volunteer civilian force if that excluded conscription! I don’t know mate , things are getting worse by day imo. The police seriously want us disarmed.

I purchased a 1917 Lithgow Mk 3 in the early 90's for $100 USD. The metal finish looked brand new, especially the barrel, with flawless crown, muzzle rifling and a pristine bore, the knoxform of the barrel has no markings other than what appears to be a poorly struck 'C'. The buttstock is marked '1942', 'MA LITHGOW SMLE', III*/HV, the number '4' above the numbers '26398'. The bolt does not match the original ser.#, which has been struck-out and another added, which is not a match, either. The receiver socket is marked as a Mk3 and the right side of receiver has been milled to accept the (omitted) magazine cut-off, the right side fore stock is also milled to accommodate the cut-off, as is your example. The rear sight protectors have milled recesses, the right is a round circle while the left side features an elongated, oblong shaped recess. The front of the bayonet boss has been ground to erase the serial number, then refinished. The front sight protectors are solid and, curiously, the front sight was dead-center (all my other SMLE's have the front sight resting far to the right side of the sight base). When I fired the rifle for the first time (at 50 yds.) it shot to the right and the sight needed to be drifted to the right side of the sight base (just as my other SMLE's), this led me to believe it was refurbished and stored without test-firing. I'm very fond of my SMLE.

We sure did a lot of fighting in in the South Pacific, my dad served there post Kokoda til the very end. He brought home a Lithgow '42 Mk.3* that was rebarreled at some stage to a Sportco barrel in a range configuration. After competing in Full Bore with the Buchan Rifle Range he eventually mounted a scope and it was basically the rifle I learnt to shoot with. These days it lives in Sweden with my brother and hopefully will be used to harvest game over there one day.

Hi, I bought one of these in good condition several years ago. They were made in Adelaide where I live. I found the aperture sights too hard to use and fitted a scope, which greatly improved its accuracy. It will achieve around 1.5 MOA at around 300 yards in still conditions using reloaded rounds. The recoil was a bit uncomfortable so the muzzle has been threaded and a brake fitted. Overall a lovely rifle for target shooting. IP

Along comes 2023 and I'm right back to owning a Omark Sportco 44 with the top wood. I guess more or less for nostalgic reasons, but what a beauty.
