    Anyone growing up in Hong Kong would also instantly recognise this. Classic pistol with a lot of charm!

    Hello from Louisiana and Texas. When I read “Department of Southern Armament”, I expected to see somebody from over in this neck of the woods. Surprised to hear an Australian accent and see an Australian flag. Nevertheless, I was not disappointed. Great video. I agree wholeheartedly. My dad grew up in Mississippi in the 50s and the Model 10 S&W (or the Colt Official Police) was known to everyone back then as “THE .38 Special” or “The policeman’s revolver”. Today, when you say “.38 Special” most people think of a little J frame 5 shot snub nose. But in my dad’s day, it was a simple police service revolver (like the M10). Bought him a 1971 tapered barrel M-10 for his birthday 16 years ago. I love practicing with and carrying my Colt Official Police or S&W M-15. Done several videos with them and more to come. A great fundamental weapon. Great to see it appreciated in other parts of the world.

    My old man became a Police officer in 1975 here in Indiana. His class out of the academy was the first issued Model 13's. The classes before all got Model 10's. He never carried .357's, but always heavy grain .38's. I absolutely love his old model 13. It's got late 70's Houge grips and he'd had a gunsmith back in the day smooth up the internals. They switched to S&W 9mm automatics in about 1985. When he retired 32 years later in 2007 they were carrying Glock 21's.

      @@dsar9489 🤣 I like them, but then, they're what I learned to shoot this model 13 with. The original wood was basically destroyed by constant carry, and someone trying to refinish them 🤦‍♂️ before I was born.

      I tried to avoid making the obligatory G19 comparison..... as Tupperware doesn't even come close to comparing to the thought that went into these.

    Gives me memories of my dad's 686. God I loved that gun in .357 when I was around 13, his .44 magnums had ~8-9 inch barrels and were way to heavy to enjoy but that 686 was the dream. I grew up on sig 9mm's but that gun still brings back fond memories Australia is a beautiful country, i hope y'all get some freedom back and can collect like us Americans.

    My favorite gun store got a bunch of these and issue kit from New York state department of corrections, they still had their rack number tags. Those grips look amazing I’ll have to try and find a set for my 10-8.

      Their just a set of "target/coke bottle" grips off the new "classics" line... they totaly transform the old work horse.
      Watch this space in the future, as we may have a full duty belt on the cards

    .38 Special was never recessed. Only magnums and rim fire had recessed chambers.

      Might be mistake, but I think there was one exception, the 38/44 Heavy Duty guns. I seem to recall seeing the counter sunk chambers on those.

    Are there any safety features on the Model 10? If dropped, will it fire? Does the firing pin sit on the primer? On a side note, If a person bought a Model 10......which dash number is the best, considering I only want it in .38 not .357.

  • @tacticalgunsmith
    @tacticalgunsmith 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You mentioned you can only use that on the range. You cant shoot it on your own property? I assume you cant carry a gun for self defense in Australia.

    • @dsar9489
      @dsar9489  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is correct. As of 2004, Category H can only be possessed for Sports target shooting or professional security services. Self defence was removed as a legitimate reason for all categories of firearms ownership in Australia as of 1997.
