SMB 3.0 Multi-Channel with Sonnettech Twin25G (2 x 25Gb SFP28)
SMB Multichannel has been supported from QTS 5.1.0 / QuTS hero h5.1.0 to provide QNAP NAS with a massive boost to throughput, ideal for transferring 8K/16K multimedia and large files. With automatic failover for operational reliability, if one connection fails, application I/O will continue with the remaining network. Total bandwidth automatically reverts to full throughput once the failure recovers. By enabling SMB multichannel, available network paths are automatically detected and aggregated. No extra complex configuration is required.
QNAP provides various NAS systems that come with built-in 2.5GbE, 10GbE or 25GbE Ethernet ports. By further leveraging PCIe expansion cards for adding more network connections, you can easily build up high-speed storage with flexibility and cost-efficiency.
Enjoy 2- 4 times faster speed from direct connection of single client devices.
Acquire 50GbE ultra-high transfer speed using 25GbE NAS.
In a multi-connection environment, each client device doubles its transfer speed.
www.qnap.com/solution/smb-multichannel/en/
Postproduction workflows’ needs for speed and increased network bandwidth beyond the current 10GbE standard have increased more quickly than the availability of affordable, higher-speed network components. Recently, extremely affordable 25Gb Ethernet switches have become available, but connecting a computer with Thunderbolt ports such as a Mac Studio® to 25GbE infrastructure has remained expensive. Until now. Sonnet’s Twin25G Thunderbolt adapter is the most cost-effective and powerfully simple solution for adding incredible 25GbE network connectivity to your computer without PCIe card slots.
Sonnet was established in Irvine, California, in 1986. Since then, we’ve pioneered and brought to market many innovative and award-winning products that enhance the performance and connectivity of Mac, Windows, and other industry-standard computers. Quite often the most common problem is that you're using a HTTPS port that you set in WebDAV settings but only use HTTP in the URL, or vice versa. Are you 100% sure the link you are using to connect is correct with the activated port for WebDAV?

    Other than avoiding the necessity of having an available PCI slot, is there an advantage to this solution over connecting to a Thunderbolt card directly? How would you recommend making a choice between this approach vs. a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt connection? Thanks!

    • @QNAPUK

      One of the biggest disadvantages of Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt is cable length, generally you will be limited to be sitting within 2-3 metres of the NAS for this. This Sonnettech device really takes away that limitation without sacrificing performance.

    • @QNAPUK

      Here are all the notes regarding our NAS Migration: Please note: The destination NAS should contain enough drive bays to accommodate the hard drives from the source NAS. It is recommended that the source NAS and destination NAS are both using the most-recent version of operating system. Check the drive bay sizes of both the source NAS and destination NAS and ensure that your hard drives are compatible with the destination NAS. Check drives compatibility list. You must disable SSD caching on the source NAS before migrating to the destination NAS. If the source NAS has connected JBOD/expansion units, you should check that the destination NAS is compatible with these units before migrating. After system migration, the following may occur: Storage settings (including Qtier and SSD caching) may be changed. Network and virtual switch settings (including Port Trunking, Virtual Switch, Thunderbolt, and USB QuickAccess) may be changed. If the destination NAS has less RAM than the source NAS, some features and applications may not be supported (including Virtualization Station, Qsirch, and Snapshots). If you're migrating to a target NAS that is incomparable in its functions to the source NAS, restrictions apply and the migration may not work. These restrictions are, including but not limited to, as follows: Hard disk drives configured as a storage pool on the source NAS can not be migrated to a target NAS that does not support storage pools. QNAP recommends checking the transferability status of your licenses on QNAP License Manager before data migration. Not all licenses are transferable. QNAP recommends deactivating transferable licenses on the source NAS before data migration. Non-transferable licenses can not work on destination NAS after data migration. Due to incompatibilities in file system, system migration between QTS and QuTS hero operating system is not supported. If you still have legacy volumes in QTS 4.3.4 or later, we recommend that you backup all data on the legacy volumes, create one or more new volumes, and then restore the data to the new volumes. This will enable you to fully utilize all features of Storage and Snapshots. A legacy volume is a volume created before QTS 4.0. Existing volumes become legacy volumes after upgrading QTS from an early version to version 4.0 or later. Legacy volumes can still be used for data storage, but their behavior and status will not be consistent with other volume types.They also cannot benefit from the latest QTS features such as snapshots.

    Hi, great video and explanation !!! I will build my new QNAP TVS-H474 with 4x 20TB ironwolf (in JBOD mode, looking at 1 failover spare disk) + 1TB WD Red for cache + 64gb RAM + Nvidia GTX1650, in QuTS Hero. By this explanation, could be sense change 1 20TB ironwolf to 4TB SSD in an exclusive pool to application? Separeting in 2 volumes, and losing some space to storage or spare disk to gain a plus to application running, or I am going to any place no sense. Basically the application functions should be media server, plex server and something else around audio/video. Thank you so much !

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK วันที่ผ่านมา

      The most important thing with QuTS hero is to make sure you have at least 2 x SSD's to be used as a system volume, ideally in RAID1. This system volume can be used for apps as well as the OS. You can then use the HDD's for your data, also additional SSD's can be installed as well for things like an SSD cache if you need it.

      TBS-h574TX is a much smaller unit, SSD only, great if you need to take it to shooting locations or anywhere else as it's so small. The TVS-h874T is a much larger unit, can take a mix of SSD's and HDD's, much better to be installed at a fixed location like your studio. Both are aimed toward content creators looking to do things like video editing with multiple editors.

    Just found this video while looking for an alternative to our current Backup solution. Looks promising. We already use several QNAP NAS, but I'm not able to test it at the moment. All Machines combined we have about 35TB of Backup Data. We would Like to have an offsite Backup one our Cloud Server. Is that possible with that app? Especially regarding just uploading the changed data. Our current solution uses incremental Backups but still saves everything in one file, which would mean that after every Backup the File is "changed" and synced completely new. Which means 35TB Upload every day.

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK วันที่ผ่านมา

      Netback PC Agent is about getting data from the client computer into the NAS. If you need something to get data from the NAS into an off-site location like a Cloud Server then I would probably recommend using our HBS3 (Hybrid Backup Sync) application to do that. It does support full backups/syncs as well as incremental.

    For ~6000mb/s and ~4000mbs/s from 25gbe in TVS-h874T you need SSD's hard drives or you are capable of getting that from for example EXOS hard drives?

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK วันที่ผ่านมา

      HDD's do have a limitation... the best SATA EXOS X24 speeds on their data sheet is 285MB/s under ideal conditions/data. Multiplying 285 by the 8 drive bays will only give a little over 2,000MB/s... with real world random data and a redundant RAID setup, probably half that. So SSD's would be needed to achieve anything faster.

    Is it possible to use 8 HDDs X24 24TB exos enterprise from seagate with (TVS 874T i9 64GB RAM) NAS to achieve a total of 168 TB in RAID 5? Because in the official website it was mentioned that the maximum storage is 154TB with 22TB RAID 5!

    • @QNAPUK

      Yes, the 24TB Exos X24 (ST24000NM002H) has now been added to our compatibility list for the TVS-h874T so you would be able to install 8 in there. Space available will be confirmed by the NAS, but after doing the decimal (advertised size) to binary (actual usable by NAS) conversion, you would have around 150-152TB available in RAID5. For context, the 22TB drive would give around 138-140TB usable in a RAID5. 24TB (decimal) = 21.82TB (binary) 22TB (decimal) = 20TB (binary)

      Originally we launched TS-464-4G, this had 1 x 4GB module and 2 x RAM slots internally, the maximum RAM on this unit is 16GB. Later we transitioned to TS-464-8G, offering double the RAM. Depending on time of manufacture the TS-464-8G may have onboard RAM, it may have 2 x RAM slots with 1 x 8GB module, but we are quoting that it is officially non-upgradable. If you happen to get one with 2 x RAM slots it is up to the you if you want to try to upgrade it, but it will not officially be supported by our Helpdesk and they may ask that it be reinstated to the original 8GB whilst we are troubleshooting any issues you may tell us about.

I have been running 32GB in my TS-464 8G unit for over a year now, and it has been flawless.

      @QNAPUK 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It is up to you if you want to do that... mainly on the 8GB included unit we do not want to say you can upgrade the RAM as it would upset someone if they bought it and it was a version with embedded RAM with no slots to upgrade. If you are lucky to get RAM slots and willing to take the risk... it is up to you if you upgrade beyond what we advise, but you may be asked to revert back to the original 8GB by our Helpdesk if you need their assistance.

    Thank you! Nice to see the breath of (qiote) broad basis that QNAP (still & in the near future) covers! A few questions; Question 1: I suppose the "QNAP NAS Lineup : Enterprise / SMB" (one of the first slides you shown in this video) is not sorted in a particular order? (left to right) Other then model-nummers, thus numerical, not sorted on (more) powerful processors? (from least powerful on the left to most powerful on the right). To briefly explain what I'm referring to, the depicted TVS-h1688X has an Intel Xeon W-1250 (6-core/ 12- Thread processor, up to 4,7 GHz) on board, whilst the TS-h886x has an Intel Xeon D-1622 (4-core/ 8- Thread processor, up to 3,2 GHz) on board. Thus, "in my book", the TVS-h1688x is the more powerful NAS? Not it matters that much to me, we have several of both units in use and love them all to bits! (pun intended) Question 2: And my other question, although I suppose that will be answered once the web-pages/datasheets are up; I suppose the "limitation" of USB 4 only (for the new QNA adapters), will also be applicable for the new expansion units TL-D810TC4 and TL-R1210TC4-RP? In other words, no downwards compatibility with USB 3 for those new expansion units? Which I can fully understand, just asking to be sure. Thanks again, very much appreciated!

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      1. Not necessarily in an order, agree that the h1688X is more powerful than the h886 though. In this case the left to right order would be correct. 2. Yes, so far I understand the compatibility as either USB4 or Thunderbolt3 and Thunderbolt4. Things could change in the next few months leading up to release though.

    Doubt: the LAN LED on my TS-873A's frontal panel is OFF when I use only the LAN port of an expansion card (the LAN LED on the frontal panel turns ON only when I'm using the embedded LAN ports). Is it a normal behavior? Or instead the LAN LED should be ON even when only expansion port is in use? Thanks in advance.

      I believe the indicator light on the front panel is only for the built-in ports, the PCIe NIC's will usually have their own lights on the card itself.

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have a 10GbE switch then you can plug your computer and NAS into that instead and use 10GbE speeds between anything connected with 10GbE, direct is a great option if you do not have a 10GbE switch but have both 10GbE in the NAS and your computer.

      You can use the Power Schedule options to turn the NAS off at times it is not in use, it would certainly save power. You can set a specific schedule for the NAS to turn back on or just push the power button on the NAS and it will wake up when you need it.

    One way sync for me! With versionin history for ransonware hopefully.. And I'm hoping to do connect and pull for that sync from the backup NAS sitting on a more trusted VLAN, across to the primary NAS on its own DMZ. But this is nonetheless illuminating, thanks. Because it looks like I can set RTRR server on the less-trusted primary NAS and connect across to it from the more-trusted VLAN/NAS and pull my sync down. I like the fact that I can use an RTRR-specific account, so it has no permissions to log into the NAS or even use standard SMB3 or any of those services. Great! Now all I need to figure out is how to allow an RTRR connection across a firewall from IP1/Subnet1 to IP2/Subnet2. Is there a way to only allow a certain number of file changes (say 25) per sync job, otherwise it has to wait for next sync? And to alert me if it uses all 25? My data set doesn't change much.

    Thanks Craig great demo - have my h874T arriving on Friday! I have 2 x 4tb m2's (gen 4) coming with the unit too (as well as 8 x 20TB drives) - is that amount of m2 storage overkill for system pool? or can I use some of it for system pool and rest for other storage?

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK หลายเดือนก่อน

      We reserve just under 25GB of the capacity for the System Pool... the rest of the space can be used for any other storage purpose you need... you can create a share and tell the NAS to put it on the SSD Pool if you need data in 1 area to be faster than other data. Apps can also be installed to it so they work faster, by default they will use the System Pool, some apps can be installed elsewhere though. You cannot use the spare capacity on the SSD's for a cache though, as the drives are in use the cache will not see them as available.

    Craig, ever since the latest FW update it is not possible to select the 10GbE port 1 or 2 for WAN on the Network Physical interface config page. I’ve recently changed ISP and as a measure I reset the 301W and updated to latest FW. Running through the initial set up I cannot take advantage of higher than 1Gb fibre speeds. I had previously had the 10Gbe Port 1 set as WAN on BT no issues with the 4 x 1Gbe LAn ports solely as LANs. Are QNAP aware of this issue and are we likely to regain the use of the 10Gbe port for WAN. It’s disappointing and frustrating to say the least for such high end hardware now which is essentially locked at 1Gbe. Any potential buyer should be aware of this as of May 2024 as this now inhibits the ability to run an additional multi WAN set up and negates any fail over protection as the 301W is locked to Port 1 1Gbe LAN/WAN.

    Now that the FTP is no longer a part of the control panel, will it still start up automatically when the NAS starts up? If not, how do I get QuFTP to start up when the NAS starts up? I don't see any setting anywhere to define whether it gets launched on startup or not.

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK หลายเดือนก่อน

      If an app was started when the NAS was shut down, it will automatically start again the next time it boots up. You can start/stop apps in the App Center. But you will not have to manually start it each time, if you never stop the app, it will always be running each time the NAS boots up.
