can io use a pcie external sas card to add a jbod to it ?
It would be more useful to show how to make it accessible from the web.
Hello, I have a QNAP TS-233 model. I can't install Netbak on PCs, it requires HDP 2.0. There is no such application in the QNAP App Market. What should I do?
Can you connect this directly to PC ?
No mention of which QNAP is compatible , what software and hardware requirements. No mention if you want to run the NAS with routing how many NICs required.
I got these "MTFDKBZ3T8TFR-1BC1ZABYY Data Center 7450 PRO" from QNAP compatibility list but can't seems to fit in the casing. I tried both ways with adapter and removing but the Micron 7450 SSD doesn't align. DO you know if theres anyway i can install these.
Thanks for sharing, but frankly what logic does having ONLY USB type A does in a NAS like the QNAP TS-H1290FX-7302P has? do we really want to take hours for a incremental or days for the full backup? Same for any of the high capacity cases.
Doesn't look like it works with Microsoft 365 Family edition? :(
What did you physically use to connect and where on the QNAP did you connect to?
Hello, I own a TS-664, equipped with 4x20TB HDD - raid5 + 4TB nvme cache read Intel Celeron N5095 4-core/4-thread processor, burst up to 2.9 GHz equipped with 32GB ram. connected to UPS Operated as media server, file server, photo server, computer backup device. Will I benefit from switching to "QTS hero"? Or due to the cpu, will the performance of the NASU be reduced? I am considering "QTS hero", for its work with data integrity security... If the NAS retains the performance of the QTS, I'll switch. I'm hesitant because to load and transfer all data, services, accesses, many users... is not easy ;) Thanks for the answer
ts464 32gb ram with qm2 x2 512 nvme cache runs very slow with QuTSh 80% cpu ram 50%
Any chance I can be provided with Media Streaming Add-On for: QNAP NAS: TS-469L, 4.3.4, 2814 Build 20240618.
maar nergens hoe het wel moet... triest
Thank you men. Spend already a few hours without much luck, then I found your video and it just works.
Does the TVS-h474 have a GPU compatibility sheet to refer from please? All I can find are dimensions for PCIe clearance, but this requires wading through various sites to try and find a card that fits perfectly...
Yes, available here: www.qnap.com/en-uk/compatibility/?model=726&category=25
can the Thunderbolt 4 ports be use as USB4 ports ?
No the 2 x Thunderbolt 4 ports are only for Thunderbolt, the other USB-A and USB-C ports on the NAS are USB 3.2 Gen2 (10Gbps) only.
When I right clicked the folder I wish to share as team folder, I do not have the 'Share this folder as team folder' option.
How i can send the files to NAS from my computer with the help of internet ip
On your NAS is an application called MyQNAPCloud, this will allow you to setup your NAS for remote access. With that remote access you will be able to access the File Station application so you can download and upload files to/from your NAS.
I came upon this video while looking for QuTS set up info. I'm new to owning my own NAS and to QNAP. I have the 5 bay SSD NAS, the h574tx ... I had planned on using all 5 bays in a single RAID 5 storage pool. Is that a reasonable configuration? Or is it smarter to use more than one pool even with this device? I also plan on using a USB JBOD device with spinning rust, perhaps having more than one pool there - if that is supported. Thanks!
On an all SSD NAS, QTS or QuTS hero, single RAID5 would probably be the most popular... some may choose RAID6 for the added redundancy. No need for multiple pools though. Yes if you attach a USB expansion you can configure however you want, for simplicity, if all HDD's I would still use a single pool, separating data with shares instead of splitting pools up, bit more efficient use of space.
im only getting 400mb and im using 2 nvme drives in raid 0, im clearly bottlenecked somewhere but i have no idea where
What test were you doing to achieve that speed? What networking connections do you have between you and the NAS?
That's fine, I intend to convert my TS-453E eventually. What would the recommended backup from QTS in order to restore onto QuTS be?
Using a Sync Job within HBS3 (Hybrid Backup Sync) is probably the simplest, to some external storage of some kind. This will maintain your folder structure in a viewable format. Doing it share by share will be the easiest. Once on QuTS hero you can recreate the same share structure, then you can create an Active Sync job in HBS3 to pull the data back into the same structure you had before.
I will create a raid 50, (4) 10 tb and (4) 18. Once this is done I will move data to them I will then free up (6) 20 tb and purchase 2 more 20tbs. Can I upgrade each raid inside the 5 raid 50 like this? thanks
Thank you, nice tutorial and even better software, my computers at home have it easier.
Of coarse it was released today..... Darn it, I just spent the last 4 days setting up my QNAP TS-464-8G (upgraded to 16gb ram for zfs as I thought I would have been able to install zfs 1st) and only just finished transferring all my files to it yesterday 🤣 I only copied/duplicated all my files over to the NAS (just in case this exact thing happened) so I ask... Is it worth restarting, installing ZFS and just spend another 4 days of transferring again as I'm currently rocking a 2tb M.2 (system only) and 2x 12tb Seagate Nas Pro's in Raid 1 ofc. (I use the NAS for movies/plex and to back up my YT videos and family videos etc. so I think the ZFS will be better overall, especially the better file compression for space saving and faster Raid repairs, among others) Also, your channel has really helped me out in learning everything needed about NAS' and Networking... Has helped me out a great deal and I truly thank you 😎👌
Thanks for the feedback. Depends if you need the features of ZFS or not. Personally on my own TS-364 (16GB RAM), I am keeping it on QTS, really do not need the advanced features of ZFS for my personal use case. If you only have a single M.2 SSD in your NAS, I wouldn't recommend QuTS hero, if you had 2 so you can enable RAID1, then perhaps.
I have done almost the exact same thing as you. I’m new to QNAP and I’ve just copied 14TB of media data onto a TS-664-16GB. For my usage I’m not sure if it’s worth upgrading. I will have to research the benefits of QuTS for what I’m doing.
....läuft bestens..... qnapTS264 und Samsung S24+
Is it possible to share the saved data somehow or is it just a backup space?
Yes, we have share links possible now. If you tried it before and couldn't see it then that is because it was only added in the last couple of months. But yes you can create share links to either files or folders.
I only see the option to share qnap ID with users. at the same time, the manual mentions the possibility for anyone. Can I ask for advice? I have also paid the bill.
They will be required to have an address registered as a QNAP ID, we do not support anonymous sharing currently, they will have to authenticate to access. They do not need a QNAP to create a QNAP ID.
Looks like you use same soft ware for 301w and 322 - is that correct ?
Yes correct.
I dont see it in the compatibility matrix but does the TS-873A accept the NVIDIA T1000 8 GB graphics card?
If it is not in the list then I would have to say no... sometimes they are not on the list because they physically will not fit rather than a software/drive compatibility reason though.
@@QNAPUK I took a gamble and tried it. I bought the card 50% off and just installed it. Dell NVIDIA T1000 8 GB graphics card. I confirm it is accepted and acknowledge by the TS 873A with the nvidia plugin. and Plex sees it too.
Great, typically if it will physically fit... it will often work, Nvidia normally use a single driver pack for all their chipsets so if 1 works, they will likely all work. It is just sometimes they do not fit or cannot be powered, glad it worked for you :)
Is it possible to unlock an encrypted drive from a QNAP mobile app? When I reboot my QNAP it would be more convenient for me to use the mobile app than log into a web browser to unlock the drive
Not from the app but you can login via the web interface and do it that way from a mobile device. Good feedback though, I'll pass it onto product management.
FROM OUTSIDE NETWORK, HOW?
You will have to open up the ports on your firewall if you want direct access. The ports are shown in QuFTP, depends on which services you're using as to which ports though, often more than 1 port.
I really appreciate if someone could tell me if ARM NAS are ok. In my mind it will reduce electricity bill but I don't know about performance. cheers.
What will you need to use it for? Hopefully I can help...
mainly git server, plex, file station.
Plex will be the challenging part... but only if you have to use transcoding. If you can use optimised versions where it transcodes the files before watching then it should be fine, but it will not support real-time hardware transcoding. Everything else will be great. If you need real-time hardware transcoding then I would recommend something like our TS-264, TS-464, TS-664 depending on how large you need it, it has a built-in GPU that works great with Plex.
@@QNAPUK I watch videos on my ipad and iphone, I'm sure it resizes because of the different screens. TS-264 is probably better but I was thinking about the electricity saving.
You can use power scheduling, if you know you will never use the NAS between say midnight and 10am, you can have the NAS turn off between those times using barely any power. You can override it with a wake on LAN (WOL) signal or you can just push the power button if you want it back on sooner.
if i want to add a hard drive as a standalone drive , without adding it to Raid adn without formatting it, which option should i choose
When you have an empty drive in the NAS that is not being used for anything then you can just create a pool/volume directly on it, without adding it in with any other drives.
how do you enable read/write? mine is read only
Did you login with an account that has read/write access or was it using anonymous access?
Try this on a 4-core QNAP NAS (which is among the more common QNAPs used at home) - Ha, ha - what a laugh 😄
It will work just fine, Windows 11 on something like a Quad Core Celeron is great.
@@QNAPUK .. and 8Gb non upgradeable ram : TBS-464-8g ? ( courteous question, no disrespect intended )
@@QNAPUK Definitely not. I just tried and it barely crawls!! 😢
I cannot change the RAM requirements of Windows or the RAM of the model of NAS you purchased unfortunately, it is what it is there. Tell Microsoft to make it more efficient to only need 2GB maybe? :)
I've tried it on my TS-364 with 16GB RAM, works great. I used the 2 x M.2 NVMe bays as storage for the virtual machines... no problem at all.
Thanks!!!!
Hi! Great video and very informative. Is there a method to natively sync files from a nominated local file directory such as a laptop or External HD to auto back up to the NAS. Much like the mobile app that allows two way and one way syncing, it gives more control over files that are being worked on on a day to day basis to be auto backed up. The only way i can see this as a possibility is by setting up a 'Backup Job' in HBS3 Hybrid and having to plug in the HD direct to the NAS, which is not feasible in my instance. Surely there is a way to do two way syning on the desktop QSync Application?
Thanks for the feedback! Not with Qsync, for that I would recommend our Netbak PC Agent instead, it uses Hyper Data Protector as the "server" on the NAS and the agent connects in, you can choose what data is being synced/backed up that way.
Thunderbolt doesnt show jumbo frames
it says everything about QNAP that you need a 13 min video to explain how to reset a password. I have had a QNAP NAS drive for over ten years and I actually still can't figure out how to use it. The more videos I watched, the more confused I was. I have given up.
I'm looking at this as a direct attached storage for video editing on a Mac via TB3/4 and have a few questions: 1. Would I get the same performance with the i3 as the i5 over TB? 2. What's the maximum R/W when using RAID 0, and 3. Does the i3 or i5 run cooler to prevent loud fan noise? Thank you.
If running at maximum speed across all ports... the i5 would be faster, but for normal workloads... probably around the same speed. We do not do testing with RAID 0 so cannot comment, it is a RAID mode we really do not recommend as it is too risky, 1 drive fails... you lose everything from all drives in the same RAID. i3 would run a little cooler.

PLEASE HELP !! I have a QNAP TS-433 and I just want to use it directly connect to my desktop iMac. Ive followed your steps (thank you btw) and it say this " there was a problem connecting to the server 169.254.. There are no shares available, or you are not allowed to access them on the server. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem".... what am I doing wrong!!?? thank you so so much for any help you can give :)
It could be that you haven't logged in with a valid username and password... when you look at the NAS in Finder, it normally has a box at the top right that says "Connect As", click this and it will pop up a login box, login with the same username and password you login to the web interface of the QNAP and it should authenticate you and show you the shares.
I would like to auto-delete uploaded media from my device to save space,.or at least to see a mark on the succesfully updated local files like it was in QPhoto
