A topic often overlooked but so very important!
Having used UPS for years and years, and have been "saved" by power-cuts on several occasions, I strongly recommend using an UPS.
Even when your NAS-setup is not that large, it helps to protect your data-integrity when power fails.
(and avoids you of having to go thru the hassle of file-system checks etc when the power did fail without an UPS to help protect your NAS)
An UPS often will also give you some level of protection against brown-outs and filter-out mains-power issues et cetera.
QNAP does notify you, when selecting the UPS to use the "Auto-protection"-mode preferably, when using an UPS? (I have it set to 2 minutes)
For the timers, shouldn't you set the time(s) to (only) a few minutes instead of 10 minutes?
I guess it is any value that you feel comfortable with and(!) the UPS is able to sustain the NAS (on battery-power) when power has indeed failed.
(and hopefully eventually comes back)
What happens after the 10 minutes, will the QNAP still go in auto-protection mode or gracefully shutdown? (i.e. dismount the volumes and turn-off)
I heard that with ZFS (QuTS Hero) an UPS is particularly really needed/strongly recommended?
Whilst QuTS Hero is quite resilient & good in self-healing?
It could have been a quirk but in my set-up the network switch is not connected to the UPS and still the QNAP's do go into the said safe-mode when the power failed.
BTW, I did use USB mode (and USB slave-modes) for several years, which the said UPS (Dell/Eaton OEM) was recognised but not formally supported (i.e. not on the list you showed in the video) and eventually after a major (back then) QTS upgrade, no longer worked. Unfortunately, QNAP Support could not do much about it, as it was not on that "formal" list.

With QTS it does show you a very nice extensive explanation, suggestions and help...

I would also add, that one needs to note how long your NAS takes to shutdown, if takes 7 minutes, insure that the UPS can last a few minutes longer than that.

It would be grea, for those of us that are new to this, if you could explain how you find out the UPS IP where you'd plug the ethernet into? Is it going into the router or the back of the unit?

You would probably have to go ask the UPS manufacturers support team. As all UPS devices do things differently there is no way for me to do it for all of them.

I have moved house recently and therefore, my home network was dismantled and its took me ages to get my network plumbed back in to my new home for a variety of reasons. Finally I now have my NAS back into my router and my pc sees it using the QFinder program. However, it is asking me to log in and I simply dont remember the log in details. When I search for my username, it says there is no such user. I believe my user account might have been deleted for whatever reason.
If I set up a new user, will I be able to then log back into the device and resume using the data on it? I dont want to lose the data on it be setting up a new user if there is something else I should do in my circumstance.
I just want to get back into it and use it as normal but without being able to use the email address I used to use, Im a bit stuck. Any help please?

Hi, you can reset your password by following the instructions on this video - th-cam.com/video/Wq1OxnII3fU/w-d-xo.html. Once you've reset the password, make sure your NAS is connected to the network using port 1, from Qfinder you can see the MAC address which is now your password for the Admin account. Use all upper case and remove the hyphens (-).
