Excellent video. Answers my question about how to restore a VM using USB. It would have taken me a long time to figure out how to do it. I have been using it for over a month now and seems to work well with several issues. I will post them in another comment.
Now for my comments and questions about issues I have found that I would like to get your opinion. 1) Mine is missing the ability (option) to schedule a backup when system starts/wakes up as shown in the tutorial. I see that the function is also missing in your video. 2) Can you restore folder(s) with large number of files? I can't. Can you try restoring a folder or folders with say 4000 files to see if it works? 3) What happens when you schedule your backup at midnight? Does it work? I don't think so if PC is in sleep mode. 4) If it fails the midnight backup, does your VM PC backup when it comes out of sleep when you next log on? 5) Is there a way to verify the integrity of the de-dupe? I think Windows Home Server had that feature (I might be wrong). 6) Your option of encryption verses compression? I chose compression but is encryption better? 7) These and others have been reported to QNAP via their Beta feedback. However, nothing coming back other that a thanks. Do you think they are working on bug fixes yet? Thanks again for an excellent video. 3 thumbs up!
I'll pass these questions to the Product Manager and see what he says... but yes, they are working on a lot of bug fixes right now, when something is in beta it tends to get a lot of resources allocated internally for development... lots of QA and bug fixes, keep checking for app updates... not all fixes will be in the release notes when a new version is released, will come back with any feedback from the Product Manager.
Hello, I have a QNAP TS-233 model. I can't install Netbak on PCs, it requires HDP 2.0. There is no such application in the QNAP App Market. What should I do?
1) When creating the recovery USB stick, it appears that you only need one which will work on multiple PC's. Is that correct. 2) I think you created unnecessary confusion with all of your talk of VM's. While I do have a couple of VM's, my main need is to backup physical PC's which I suspect is the case for most viewers. 3) Love the concept once I get past the VM stuff.
Its very frustrating as its like pulling teeth when dealing with QNAP, they want people to help with beta testing but where is the interaction with the testers, the latest release is 2.5 months older yet its got several useability issues and no answers to questions.
Great video. I have 4 PC's backing up. Tested a restore today, but it doesn't see the local drives if controlled by Intel RAID controller. Had to change BIOS to AHCI, do the restore, then change it back, even with the RST drivers installed on the USB. All my machines are in RAID 1, anyway to get that work?
Thank you for the video, it was very helpfull. I have made a full system backup but I can not find the option 'Disks/folders/files backup' like you show in the video at 1:30 Back up/recover full disks, folders, and files, and recover them by selecting a specific backup version.
Thank you very much! That's really great. I have just successfully put this into operation for a Windwos 11 and Windows 10 PC and even tested a restore with a client. Unfortunately I have not yet managed to change the keyboard layout to German using the USB medium. This causes me problems when entering passwords, among other things. The commands for PE after booting have not helped me. How can this be changed to German layout?
I currently use Macrium Reflect and although the backup is fast the consolidation of incrementals takes place on the PC and hogs the processor and network for hours. Does NetBak process the consolidation of Incrementals on the QNAP? If so, this would be a great improvement for me.
I think it may look off-center as it takes in to account the Registered Trade mark symbol. I think you've been watching too many of our videos to notice that! :)
I know this video is months old, but in case you see this, can Netbak PC Agent back up to an attached drive for off-site backups? or is it strictly for NAS-based backups.
It is only for backing up from your computer to the NAS itself. Once the data is in the NAS you could use something like Hybrid Backup Sync to copy the data elsewhere, like to a USB drive attached to the NAS.
Just found this video while looking for an alternative to our current Backup solution. Looks promising. We already use several QNAP NAS, but I'm not able to test it at the moment. All Machines combined we have about 35TB of Backup Data. We would Like to have an offsite Backup one our Cloud Server. Is that possible with that app? Especially regarding just uploading the changed data. Our current solution uses incremental Backups but still saves everything in one file, which would mean that after every Backup the File is "changed" and synced completely new. Which means 35TB Upload every day.
Netback PC Agent is about getting data from the client computer into the NAS. If you need something to get data from the NAS into an off-site location like a Cloud Server then I would probably recommend using our HBS3 (Hybrid Backup Sync) application to do that. It does support full backups/syncs as well as incremental.
So my Netbak application when I go to create a repository does not see any shares on the Qnap even though they are clearly there and accessible by Windows. Help?
Time Machine backup built directly into MacOSX can do this sort of restore... you can turn on Time Machine backups in Hybrid Backup Sync in the NAS under services, the Time Machine application on your Mac will then be able to discover the NAS as a destination for backups.
Finally Qnap make a solution like Active Backup For Business from Synology.
Great info about how to get the USB flash drive to work with a W11 VM. I gave up but will go back and try again. You're a timesaver!

Thank you for this video and all the details on the process.
Cracking demo Craig. Very informative yet quick and dirty,……the dirtier the better 😊

Very good! I had no idea i could do this.

You need to show how all this works in a real world situation -- NO virtual machine stuff!

Great video. I'm excited about the new PC backup capabilities. Will it do incremental and differential backups as well?

Great video. Have not tried this app yet but I definitely will. Thank You!!
Thanks Mike! Really liked the video you recently did on the TBS-h574TX, thank you!
@@QNAPUK Appreciate the feedback.
Is the QNAP logo at the beginning of the video off centre or is it just me?
I think it may look off-center as it takes in to account the Registered Trade mark symbol. I think you've been watching too many of our videos to notice that! :)
I have a problem - netback agent don't display any volumes to backup

@@QNAPUK Yeah, I was hoping it would totally replace my backup program that I use on my PC, but I guess not. Still, it's a nice feature to have.

I have problems with port 11172 and 11173
I installed and was able to configure but when I run the backup I received Error Code: null(-1) error?
Does the backups need to be in the same repository "Win11" for the dedups to work or can they be in different folders?
I have a TS-431X system and cannot find the Hyper Data app in the gallery. When you will support Annapurna based CPUs for backup?
Currently no plan, Netbak PC Agent is only for x86 based NAS.
Does qnap have a similer OSX offering

Does it work for Windows 10?
Sorry, I spoke too soon. It does support Windows 10.
