Speedmaster101
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 เม.ย. 2020
Welcome to my collection of discussions about the Omega Speedmaster. You can learn more at my site www.speedmaster101.com .
I look rather obsessively at Omega Speedmasters produced from the very first 2915 made in 1959 up to the last reference that was marked with a date, the 145.022-78.
My attitude is to share as much information as I can so that you can buy the right watch for you, one that you like, and that is correct. If it is not correct, then I hope to help you find out what is wrong with a watch before you buy it, not after.

Did I Over Pay for this Omega Speedmaster at Auction?
I was looking at Bonhams Auction and spur of the moment, I bought this Omega Speedmaster 105.003 Ed White.
This is v2 of the video as I had a couple of mistakes.

Omega Speedmaster Transitional - Just acquired
มุมมอง 2.3K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Here I review an Omega Speedmaster Transitional from 1968. It was bought by a watch enthusiast from a retail store, who frankly overcharged him. Here we go through all its characteristics, and those things that affect the value negatively.
An Assessment of a single owner 145.022-69 Omega Speedmaster
มุมมอง 8Kปีที่แล้ว
I was contacted by Joe, the owner of his late father's Speedmaster which was purchased new. The watch has a badly scratched crystal, and has been stored for considerable time. Here I open the watch for the first time in many years, and I investigate if it has been opened since it was originally bought. This will be the first in a series, focusing on this one owner watch and what I do to preserv...
Omega Speedmaster No Nasa Assessment
มุมมอง 3.4Kปีที่แล้ว
Here I take a detailed look at a very rare Omega Speedmaster, Reference 145.022-71with the "No Nasa" case back, produced for a very short time. We go through the identification and confirmation of parts, and condition, so we can arrive at a guide category for use with the price chart over on www.speedmaster101.com
Omega Speedmaster Quality Asessment

Here I go through a recently acquired Speedmaster, showing how I reach a quality grade conclusion, that I can then relate to my Price Chart over on Speedmaster101.com. I found this watch in a market in Asia and it really is an interesting one to go through.
Omega Speedmaster 145.012 Re Lume?
มุมมอง 4.4Kปีที่แล้ว
I bought this watch over 10 years ago, and because I over paid, I put it in the safe and forgot about it. During the Covid lock downs I got it out and came to the conclusion it might have been re lumed - partly because it is in such good condition. I recently offered it for sale as original and a viewer pointed out I had called it a re lume a while back. Judging relumes is a skill that is acqui...
A look at my latest Transitional Speedmaster

I just found this watch, from the original owner. Very rare, these transitional references were produced for a very short time in the late 1960's Here I go through the watch, as it arrived. What to look at in this Brown Dial Speedmaster 2998
มุมมอง 2.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A walk through of an Auction Brown Dial 2998-1 on offer at Loupe This: loupethis.com/auctions/omega-speedmaster-ck-2998-1-tropical-dial The auction is still active at the time of making this video, so I am just presenting what I look at, and raising any questions that I think ought to be asked. The watch is potentially a good, buyable watch, and this video leads you through what I would be look...
Was this Ebay 2998 A Bargain?
มุมมอง 3.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A website reader sent me this 2998 sold on Ebay for USD 17,237. Initially this is very much below what I would expect a correct 2998-2 to sell for and so it looks like an interesting watch to review. If you see a watch sold that you would like reviewed, then send it to me via the website, and if it is interesting I will do it. I think I prefer to review AFTER the sale, so as not to unduly influ...
A "New" One Owner 145022-69
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is a watch I bought from a Vietnam veteran, who now at the age of 91 decided he doesnt need material posessions anyomore, and he sent me the weatch . My first task is to see what I have, check the reference and the serial, so I can apply to Omega for an extract. Next I go through the state of the watch and arrivew at a conclusion With a watch like this the question is do I improve it, bt r...
My First Speedmaster Purchase of 2022
มุมมอง 8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I look at a watch I just purchased, my first purchase of 2022. You can go with me, examining the watch as I discover what it is what is wrong with it and why I like it. In this video I de-case the watch. I only did this as it was an inexpensive watch that will certainly be sent for service soon. More expensive watches I leave to qualified watchmakers. I just couldn't resist seeing...
Omega Speedmaster 105012 found in abandoned house
มุมมอง 6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This features a 105.012 I bought a few years ago. The late owners daughter found it where it had lain undisturbed for a year and a half, in a sock. The 105.012 is one of the most attractive references to my eye as it has the shorter pushers and often the dials are very attractive. This one is a 105.012-65 with an HF case, and double bevel case back. It has original fat neck pushers and what I b...
Omega Speedmaster 145.022-76 Reviewed after Purchase
มุมมอง 5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
(This is a re edited and reposted video fixing a sound problem) Here I look in detail at an Omega Speedmaster 145.022-76 that I recently bought from a private collector. I go through the correctness and the quality and mention things to watch for on this quite specificaly apointed reference. Things to watch out for are the dial that is specific to this era, and the movement that has a Delrin br...
I just bought Speedmaster Ed White - Is it a good one?
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I recently bought an Ed White from the original owners grandson in Florida. The original owner died and passed the watch onto his grandson, who I met. He was young and working hard in his small buisness, which like many benefited from the cash injection that the sale of this watch gave him. The value of this watch was disproportional to his lifestyle and he had far better use for the money this...

Hi William Excellent video thank you . Can I ask where you got the leather strap from on the watch ? Looks fantastic Thanks
My Bezel has 220, not 200 before 190 MPH. Is there any added value from this error? Only 580 with this error at the end of production in 1970.
More videos please! I’ve got the bug 👍
Thanks for the great content- I had no idea about all the differences. I have just acquired a 145022-76 one owner from my father. How and who do i get a service cleaning from without degrading or compromising the integrity of the watch. My plan is to keep and wear the watch.
Isn’t the “dust cover” actually a faraday cage? Or is it different on the earlier models?
I just wanted to thank you for your library of content. I picked up a 1960s Speedmaster and using your videos knew it was a 105.012 66 HF before I even opened the caseback!.. would love to hear your thoughts on the new second first omega in space released this week. It seems to be the closest to vintage look ever - and not a bad price for someone seeking the vintage look with new build quality… Thanks
I was considering purchasing a vintage Speedmaster and so I've watched many of your excellent videos to try and understand the pros and cons. I now realise that the market is extremely opaque and a great deal of knowledge is required to sort the wheat from the chaff as it were. So I've decided to stick to the more recent models but many thanks for putting these into a public arena, i think that you may have saved me some serious money.
Yeah I think I will get a new 3861 or a 1861 speedmaster because you kinda need to be knowledgeable with the vintage ones.
What you decide as to whether it has been relumed?
Appreciate your practical approach. There is always give and take, and the reality is that you may never find the perfect one. Thank you.
You must see tachymeters in your sleep.
Do you like the mark II. I got a few...
As a speedmaster only reviewer, would you ever consider getting a 1998 x-33 or would the digital not interest you in the slightest ? Thank you.
Mine was given to me brand new as a BD gift by my girlfriend at the end of July, 1969 about 10 days after the moon landing. I keep it in a safe and wear it occasionally. It still works well after all these years.
I still have my Speedmaster that was given to me as a BD gift about 10 days after Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon with his Speedmaster. Sometime in the late 80s or early 90s I retuned it to Omega in NYC for a "tune-up". Some of the radioactive paint was flaking off the sweep second-hand. For $300 Omega gave me a new Hazilte crystal that was less prone to scratching. They also replace the sweep second hand with a newer version that didn't flake. Omega replaced the plungers and rubber grommets, or seals. They also gave me a brand new more modern wristband. All for $300. That's more than what the watch cost at the time. They cleaned the inside and returned all the parts in a small paper envelope, except the sweep second hand. They also returned a part of the old bracelet. I don't belive Omega realized at the time that this watch was going to be this iconic. I belive my watch, an .861, was built in about October of 1968 and wasn't sold until July of 1969. My watch still runs perfectly. It has very few scratches and looks almost brand new after I buff the crystal with Polywatch. I wish they would have returned the original sweep secondhand, but I guess they thought it was garbage at the time. Who knew?
Thanks for your honest appraisal... That's the fun in watch collecting... The Gamble..
Are you sure that the hour markers haven't been relumed?
What leather straps do you recommend for a speedmaster? (Also… I want to be you when I grow up)
Although I never particularly liked Omegas nor the Speedmaster I bought a cheap transitional 3570 after watching your videos. Surprisingly, I absolutely adore it. As you say the best way to learn is to buy and wear and compare watches. And I already look out for the next one. Hopeless. 😂😂
If the bracelet is a 7912, does it have a replacement outer clasp? [looks like a 1035/1039 outer clasp?]
Thank you for your excellent video's, I have just bought a transitional 145022-69 watch with an transitional applied logo dial with a early 27mil , can you kindly do a video of your 145022-69 with a transitional dial , thank you
Hi there, it is unheard of to see an AML long indices dial in a case marked -69. With the 27m serial it is most likely a swapped case back
@@Speedmaster101 in your website you stated the following "145.022-68 Transitional Transitional - these were made with -68 or -69 stamped in the back, very low serial number caliber 861 movement, and an applied logo, long indices dial. It looks like a 145.012, and are quite rare and sought after by collectors." is that correct? thank you
did you overpay? I have no idea.
When you consider that the auction house addon both a buyers premium and a sellers commission. Only the auction house does well.
To be fair, that is true much of the time - sometimes we get the opportunity to buy watches that we would not otherwise
The completeness of the set makes it exceptional. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you like it! I agree its the documents that underline its originality
Subbed and shared. 😊
Thank you!
William just sent you an email.
Got it
William just sent you an email.
I was bidding on 68, and 72, decided to focus on the Seamaster but it went for more than I wanted to pay (didn't like the replaced hands), I probably should have stuck to 68.
Indeed. Sometimes if I hold back too much I never buy anything - and that may not be a bad thing!
Very interesting as always. With Speedmasters, bid and ask is so far apart these days. Chrono prices are ask prices, that's why they are so high. So auctions are the way to go, that's correct. Otherwise it's difficult to take advantage of the slower market. Hope the situation will get better soon.
Great point. Auctions always the best snapshot
Another great Omega Speedmaster video. I'm eagerly awaiting your next 105.012 appraisal.
Coming soon!
You may have reposted this video yesterday as well
Yes, as noted in caption, there were a couple of spelling errors I had to correct.
Always a great pleasure seeing your videos and particularly this one.
Many thanks!
Thank you for sharing your journey. I always learn a little bit of something each time I watch your channel. I came into a 105.012 Speedy before the pandemic. I recently had it serviced and restored by a specialist; they did amazing work. I would be curious of your opinion if you were open to it. Meanwhile, keep making great content.
That is awesome love hearing when people buy speedmaster
What a lovely bit of history. Loved seeing the paperwork.
Yes, love the paperwork
Thanks for the Video. I think any 105.003 is a good deal. These watches are part of history like no other watch!
Thanks for watching!
Really interesting,thankyou.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks a lot for sharing! Very interesting and informative contents! May I ask where you’d service your speedies? Sending them back to AD or some local watchmaker? Thx
I use a local watchmaker - I do not send to an AD, as vintage watches are still not always treated as I would want
just binge watched your stuff. I am in the market for a 145.022-74 Thanks a lot for all the effort you put in the web site and the video, they are really helpfull
Best of luck! The -74 came in a step dial and no step. Not easy to find
As aways great content..each video increases our knowledge of one of the greatest watches ever. Thank you.
Thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to create these videos. Much appreciated. Cheers.
Glad you like them!
always fascinating to listen to you. Will you ever do videos on the 90s and 00s era of speedmasters? That would also be interesting.
Little bit out of my knowledge the later ones.
Do we need to worry about box and papers?
No - its all about condition. Original Omega Guarantees are great if they are correct, but some unscrupulous people will fill in blank papers. Condition is more important
Love your analysis, always excited to watch your videos!
I appreciate that!
Those straps are great
Thank you
Interesting video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Looks like a lovely dial indeed; hard to be sure as the lume seems very white in this light. I guess it looks amazing in natural light, right? ;)
It does!
Lovely video as always. I guess the value would be around 7-7.500 GBP?
I would say that’s too high in todays market - the case and bezel are in the condition that makes buyers pull away at strong prices
I guess it's Williams' own table on Speedmaster101 that gives a "fair" '68 USD 3800, but a "good" '68 USD 6500. He usually has a wide range between fair and good actually, which leaves a lot of room to negotiate. :)
this one is especially hard as the dial is so valuable on its own - and out of keeping with the rest of the watch
Always look forward to your videos. Thanks!
Glad you like them!
I just joined your channel and your honest assessments of watch parts as terrible instead of saying they have "lovely patina" is refreshing in the current "watch collecting" climate. Well done.
Thank you
I’d go for the Ed White …..321
Good choice!
i'd be interested to see you do a review of a speedmaster 3570.50. I don't own one but the bracelet on this one seems to look like the bracelet from the speedmaster reduced which I really prefer to the chunky speedmaster pro bracelets.
Noted!
