With 240 one hot wire becomes the 'neutral' or return wire for the other hot wire 60 times a second. It's like having a rope around a pulley and then holding both ends, yank one end and then the other. The non-wanking I mean yanking hand gets pulled back to return the rope for the wanking I mean yanking hand.

I didn't have any way to tension my fence with the same wire as that. Turns out, just pulling on it an letting my 250 body be the counter weight was enough to get it "good enough" while someone else stapled it. We ended up sandwiching the top and bottom with 1x4s so the weedeater string didn't get destroyed/destroy the wire. It's been working so far, even if there's a bit of a wave. But every 3rd section has a perfect sandwich!
