    People once left places like Sicily for a reason. The Italians that have been leaving it in bulk for the US for decades, if not centuries now, could have told you - you could have asked them. Places like that have always suffered from draughts, and when that has happened people have starved and migrated. They would have told you! All these people now thinking that they have invented the wheel, rediscovering all these lost “paradises” in the middle of no where, my guys people have been leaving for a reason. It’s like all these foreigners being so obsessed with Portugal in the last couple of decades thinking that they discovered something lol Now a few of them are also starting to see why the Portuguese leave in bulk. Dude, we could have told you! Lol But you didn’t ask did you? You thought that you were Christopher Columbus all over again! We were all either stupid or blind, you coming from the outside knew better lol 🤷🏽‍♀️ Anyway, I don’t wish to sound mean but these are the hard facts. Good luck finding solutions, and indeed whatever you do don’t get into debt for this, this is not the right economy. Sometimes it’s best to end it and go back to the drawing board. And going back to the drawing board is not giving up on your dream, it’s simply a strategic retreat to rethink it. We have all had to do it at some point.

    Without a water source on my property, I would never consider farming. Use all your savings - and borrow some more if you can, to dig a water well, it is a good investment that will double the value of your property and obviously improve your farm output.

    Hi guys, I just found your channel and this is the first video I watch. Unfortunately I don't have any raccomandations to give you, but as a Sardinian I understand the struggles you are going through, about the jobs, about the fact that there is not much sense of community especially if you come from the 'outside' ( I say this because my husband is Australian and I noticed the difference of treatment of people) the mentality in many parts of the south especially in the countryside is very backward, people tend to be jealous of your projects, ideas and they prefer not supporting it. I don't want to generalize but the mindset over there seems very similar to here. I have to say that many people abroad romanticize Italy in a way that I don't even know, because form the outside is portrayed as this beautiful paradise with amazing food and culture, which is true but there is a lot more to the story and you only find out if you move here and start to see the layers of society and bureaucracy that stops you to do many things. There is a reason why many people from the south leave , if you don't have much money a good family or community support can be very tough. All the best!!!

      Hi 👋 Thank you for your message. You got most of the things correctly. But I guess like everywhere you can find good and bad. My husband is Sicilian, and sometimes, when you come back from abroad and try to implement all the knowledge that you learned, people are reluctant, so it can be frustrating. But we are pushing through, still not giving up, and want to see where it takes us. The main reason for us is to be close to the family. Did you stay in Sardinia or did you leave after your and husband's experience?

    • @Monaontheroad
      @Monaontheroad วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@SomethingLikeThis1 I understand that feeling, we also came back with lots of ideas and excitement but reality was different to what we imagined to be and we don't have any family support this makes it even harder. We are still in Sardinia, we live in a camper , we usually are here for the winter and we leave in spring, is much harder to stay during summer because of the tourism there is a war on campers, scarcity of water and the heat!!

    From my experience. 1. Never "try" to do something. Do it . Keep going. It will be terrible at first , no matter what you choose to do. You will succeed if you continue until you succeed. If you give up before you succeed, you will start a new project and arrive at the same conclusion that you must keep going until you succeed. 2. You are successful right now. You just don't see it. 3. You only learn through hard times. It doesn't matter what you do, you will have have times to learn from 4. Turn to God. You will not only be " successful" , you will live in paradise.

    Wow hard working people respect to you both Just a suggestion with trees in Australia some places use a length of agricultural drain say 80 mm diameter that is buried and spirals around the root ball to the base with a short section protrudes at the top near the trunk where you directly water and water goes down the perforated agi pipe to the base and sides of rootball you don't rely on water perculating down through the soil only And shade cloth was a good suggestion by another Aussie

    Keep up with a positive outlook! My son's a farmer in Australia - some seasons are good - but he has to be aware of floods, drought, and bush fires. He mostly keeps his head 'above water' financially by putting money aside during the good times. Last year and the year before... he didn't/couldn't get an income from the farm due to floods which caused massive erosion, and bush fires the year before... that damaged lots of fencing and burnt the soil. Those two years were spent on remediation of his land. This year he has managed to get a decent income. So it's all swings and roundabouts in farming. My son says he can't imagine any other way of life - he loves the land and the lifestyle. Sending you positive thoughts and wishes.

    pity, all that amazing work, fantastic produce, I think you need to be near a main fresh water tributary fora reliable source, or river. but its not only Sicily, here in Australia no-one can predict a hot dry summer, and if there is not enough sufficient water in the dams they place everyone on water restrictions, and farmers will experience what you are, and many will have dried out crops or there is a halt on growth due to insufficient water arability

      @ it does take time… make sure you do your exercises daily… even a few. I use a heating pad at night on my lower back… … you can put this on your hip.. (I have a waist band heating pad… I got it on amazon …) so if you like the heat this might help as well. Or they have those natural heating pad that you put in microwave. I also use a roll on pain relief… I live in the USA so it would be a different brand in Italy. I’m sure your therapist can recommend. I carry it with me … sometimes my hip or knees hurt and I put it on… and it numbs the pain. It took me 4 months of the therapy and then I continued my exercises… not necessarily daily but.. I now work out at a gym and swim. The pain in my lower leg and hip… not sciatica.. Started November 2023 and I finally went to physical therapy February 2024 to June 2024 and then the gym/swim at least 3-4 times a week. You could do this at home too… continue with the exercises they give you). Good luck 🍀 take care Katie … Also just An idea for a part time job… maybe instead of farming in the summer . … you could teach Italian online) Teach online: Become an online tutor at Preply preply.com/en/teach And there are other sites… you can look into. Or in your town you could teach tourists or expats? On Airbnb they have experiences… not sure how this works… but you and your husband could offer tours of your area or Airbnb ‘life on a farm’ experience.. in the USA people like to do things like that. Anyhow just some ideas?!
