Oh my goodness, I love you two. Here in Ireland kale is a real Halloween time dish. So we make a dish called Colcannon. You boil potatoes, cook your kale, and then mash the potatoes, mix in the Kale with some butter, salt, etc.. Deeeelicious.
Thank you for your love 💚 Thank you for sharing the recipe! I will make it! I am not sure if Sicilians would love as they don't eat too much potatoes and butter. It's good that my husband loves Northern food 😋
Thank you! We were the lucky ones. Some parts of Italy are on the news every few months because of the floods. Ours was just a scare more than anything.
@PeterMccabe-h3q Thank you! We ended up just with a bit of scare and a couple of photos that we will need to replace. But we were very lucky this time!
You're really suffering from the impacts of climate change, as are so many other people, but nowhere is immune, so we just need to do our best to adapt. Rainfall is now less predictable; it can be absent all summer and then absolutely thrash it down in Autumn. That seems to be the pattern here in SW France also. There are ingenious solutions to every problem, so use your creativity to find your way through these challenges. The solutions are always there.
What a roller coaster! I'm so glad your flooding wasn't worse. (About the kale, can you make a little salad or something to bring to the next sale? Maybe you can give samples so they see how good it can be?)
We usually give people a bit of raw vegetables to taste. We can not do any modifications to our food, unfortunately. But hopefully with the time they will start liking. It was the same with cavolo nero and now it's our best seller. It's always a roller coaster for us 😆 Sometimes it's a bit too much 🤣
Kale is very popular in the US. Classic Beans and Greens recipe. Classic Italian Greens and Beans Prep Time 5 minutes Cook Time 15 minutes Total Time 20 minutes Servings 2 Ingredients 2 tablespoons olive oil 2 cloves garlic 1/2 - 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes depending on how much spice you like! 1 can cannellini beans drained and rinsed 1 large bunch greens torn 1 1/2 cups chicken or vegetable broth 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper (plus more to taste, if desired) 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese plus more for serving Instructions In a large saute pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add in the broth, salt and pepper and let cook down for 10 minutes. Toss in Parmesan cheese and stir. Serve, and top with more Parm, if desired!
You guys are my inspiration - spice up all good and bad with laughter! Did you think by any chance about making kale chips in your baking oven or dehydrator?! Little bags of kale chips, plane or with different spices, cost a lot in USA. Look up some recipes on TH-cam ... Kale chips are delicious with or without beer ;-) Thank you for making your videos!!!
Thank you! Sometimes, we can only laugh about all these things happening to us all at once 😆 We would love to sell kale crisps, but legally, we can not do it at home. Food safety is a big thing here.
I love watching you guys you guys are great, I love kale. Maybe you can do a kale chips recipe and tasted in front of your viewers and maybe all the viewers will start buying kale from you.!!
Glad you weren't flooded badly. Your garden looks amazing as you noted. Can you sell some of the kale to local supermarkets? What about trying to make kale chips as healthy snacks and selling those? Kale is very popular here in the US. Good luck with the olive harvest. ❤
We were lucky with the minimal damage this time! The garden loved it, and now the grass will start growing like crazy 😆 Supermarkets have big suppliers here, they don't buy from small businesses. But we made a couple of videos on our Fb group, and people started to show more interest. So hopefully it will sell! Making kale crips requires a specialised kitchen for food processing. Unfortunately, many things can not be done at home. We are very limited in Italy. We started olive picking today. The first day is always hard to start.
Hello from Poland. I really enjoy watching your videos and I love your lifestyle. But I am sorry to see you suffering from the drought... Have you thought about your own rainwater tank? A suitably large one of course. Would it help?
We wish we could, but here, in Italy, you need to have a certified processing kitchen to do that. And the cost would be insane. So unfortunately we can not do any modifications to our vegetables.
Hey there! How about you make kale pesto? It’s so good and you can add any nuts to it like almonds, walnuts, etc… just an idea! It’s very popular here in Canada. Forza Ragazzi !
We do it ourselves and advise how to make it for our customers too. Unfortunately we can not sell finished products as they require a special kitchen and we are too small for that. Thank you for sharing some ideas ❤️
Thank you for sharing all of the delicious recipies! It's definitely one of the healthiest cabbages. We cook them in many different ways. But will have to try making kale chips. I did a few times with Cavolo nero and it was delicious.
Can you set up rain storage that might help in the hotter months perhaps to water even a smaller garden ? It must be so hard to have these extremes of rainfall / drought
We have a water tank, but obviously, it's not enough. First, we need to recover after the summer, and then we will see what else we could do about water collection.
So sad for those who have suffered flood loss 😢 Do you collect rainwater from your roof into a collection tank? When your gutters are not blocked and the rare times you do get rain, that is.
Isn't that just typical you were praying for rain and then the heavens opened. Glad your safe and just a bit of damage. Kale crisps are the best. Rub olive oil and salt through the kale Place on an oven tray and bake on high 180 for 15 mins and then remove let cool and they are so moorish.
Our lives are never boring 😆 We hope all this weird period will be over soon for us. I did crisy cavolo nero. I will be trying it with kale too! Thank you for sharing ❤️
Climate change, it’s not going to get better. We live in Mexico, had a house a few blocks from the beach, we lived there in total 1.5 years, watched the beach disappear, fixed the house up, sold it for double, and moved inland. It’s not a matter of waiting for something devastating happening to your house, it’s a matter of selling before the market figured out some areas are just not worth investing in.
Maybe this will fill the reservoir you have shown us????? Have to find something positive about all that rain! Your kohlrabi is incredible! I have a minor suggestion: would you attract more viewers if you include Sicily, gardening, homestead in your youtube name or the title? I always have to remember Something Like This - I just wonder if more viewers would find you? I really enjoy your journey and getting all the veggie recipes you and your viewers are sharing!
It will much more rain. It should be a good rainy winter for reservoir to be refilled. But fingers crossed. This year kohlrabi is massive, we never had such a beautiful ones. I will think about the name. Thank you for your advice 😃 I hope to include some Sicilian recipies during this winter. ❤️ We love cooking.
@@SomethingLikeThis1 I hate to give you advice, just want you to get more viewers! I really think people will be interested in what you are doing and showing us! I can only imagine what you can grow if you have enough water next summer!
@mbrylewski Yeah, we are waiting when our luck will turn to better side 😆 Belive me, it's been 4 years of struggles and challenges. And we are just hoping it will stop soon.
