Your grit and determination are to be admired. I am inspired by the way you keep going with grace and kindness. We will be in Sicily this September and would love to visit your farm. My wife loves dogs and might try to take yours back home! All the best to both of you.
Thank you, so kind of you! We just love too much what we do, and we hope to continue. We do farm visits and lunch, so please do come and visit us! There is a big problem with people abandoning dogs here in Sicily. You will be in trouble because she will come back with 10 of them! 😆 Thank you for your message. We really appreciate people being so kind to us.
My favourite TH-camrs. I love the way you have not let the adversity of the hot summer get you down, you just keep smiling and staying optimistic, through all the hard work. Praying you have enough water for a well. Suzanne x
Thank you Suzanne ❤️ So strange to hear "My favourite TH-camrs " 😆 Never in a million years, we imagined to be called that! But it's very rewarding to see our channel and community growing at this crazy speed. We have been blessed to have people like you finding our channel ❤️ And thank you for your prayers 🙏
Hi amazing duo, I'm from Antalya, Türkiye. I've watched at least 4 of your videos. When I first watched your video and typed "Something Like This" to subscribe, I couldn't reach you on TH-cam, other videos appeared. Try researching why you can't be reached. But days later, after watching this video, I reached you. I hope that from now on we will be informed about life, living, farming and everything with good impressions from you. I wish you success in advance.
Hi there 👋 Thank you for watching our videos. I think you can not find us because the name is a rather simple word combination, and there is a song with a similar title that gets shown first. Thanks for your support, and we will try to keep our channel interesting and informative ❤️
Wow ~ you both have a great work ethic which is very admirable! Oh, yes, a jackhammer! Oh, my goodness, that vibration would be bad. Hoping your plans are perfect, and you have a wonderful crop in the fall and winter. Nice to see you guys. 😊 ~ Carol
Thank you, Carol! We really hope that all our hard work will pay off at some point. We really hope to keep our farm going. But autumn is almost here, so hopefully it will start raining and all will go well. Let's all hope for cooler temperatures just to get a bit of relief from continuous sweting 😆
One day, when the rains return and the heat subsides and the farm is green and lush, your videos will be there to remind you of the struggle it took to get there. I'm thinking of the immigrants who came to America in the early days. The Swedes and Germans who moved into the wilds of Minnesota with the extreme winters and short summers. They had no choice but to keep going, having spent their last penny to get here and get their few belongings across the country. But they persevered, and their struggles were rewarded - just as yours will be.
It's a great pleasure for me to discover your TH-cam channel, and to share your joys and sorrows. I too have been following Martijn Doolaard in Piedmonte from Ep1. It's his determination and yours, that help keep my spirits high, and inspire me to meet with friends, and to travel in search of new experiences. I meet my friends from Bari, when they arrive here in Wales tomorrow. I'm sure I'll be talking with them about your farming life in Sicily. Diolch yn fawr i chi - Thank you very much
We are feeling so blessed to have people like you as our subscribers ❤️ Our hardship got so much lighter after sharing it with the world, because of so many wonderful and supportive people. Thank you for being one of them. And it's a beautiful gesture of you to talk about us with your friends. And my husband is feeling happy that somebody who follows Martijn is our folower too now! Thank you and grazie mille 😊
You both are grafters who don't give up on your passion. We just had 34oc here in Kent on Monday and we barely coped doing nothing let alone do 6 hours with a rotary tiller. Praying for cooler days for you 🙏 ❤️
Thank you. It's been a tough summer, more than heat it's an unbearable humidity. So sorry to hear that Kent was this hit too. These extreme temperatures becoming rather usual phenomenon. Thank you for your prayers 🙏 ❤️ We hope this rain will start soon!
I live in New Zealand and just came across your channel, seeing your last two videos. Glad to see you happier, with a planting plan and investigating the possibility of water for a well in the future. Best of luck.🙂
I agree. Do not lose hope. I love watching Martijn Doolaard also! I wished for that also, but I realize at my age I could never do the work that he does (especially in the deep snow of winter). Is there a way to gather water? Like catching dew in the morning? And cover your plants with netting that will shade them from the hot sun? We do that with peas because they are a spring crop and do not tolerate the hot sun. I love to watch your videos and I hope they continue. Could you rent a room like Air BnB?
I am so happy that you are living your dream together. I was wondering where you both are from? And how you met? I know one of you has family there. Is that why you moved to Sicily? You are such a cute couple and I hope you can achieve all of your dreams.
Hi. I have been watching your channel the past month to see your struggles with this dry summer. It looks like from today’s video you will succeed in some way to make everything work in your favour. Good luck!
Hey guys, you sound so much happier. It's good to see. I think with wells, the deeper you go, the more chance you will find water. It's not an easy job. I hope that you will have success in the very near future. Thank you for sharing 😊
We are a bit more positive as we are starting to think that summer is almost over 😆 So now we look forward to cooler months. Hopefully, it will start earlier. We hope that our dream to have a well will come true and then life would be so much easier for us 🙏 Thank you for watching our video and your message ❤️
Good to see you both in good spirits. The wild purslane here in Colorado grows fairly flat to the ground and spreads fast. I’ve yet to try it, but am told that it has amazing nutritional benefits. Thanks for sharing your lives and good luck. I’ll keep watching ❤
Thank you 😊 We are feeling much better 💪 And getting ready for autumn. You shoukd try purslane, it's actually quite tasty. My husband said it reminded him of peas, and he claims it gave him loads of energy ( I think it was afternoon nap) 😆 Thank you for watching our videos ❤️ We hope you will keep enjoying it.
You are wonderful people. Despite your hardships and disappointments, you are able to accept things as they are, modify your plans, and movė on. Su Žolinėm! P.S. I too am a Martijn Doolaard follower 😊.
Many people do here as well. Our zone is now known for mango. But we are actually trying to look back and get more native trees that are actually drought resistant, too. We ourselves have cherimoya and passion fruit plants. But when we do our food forest we hope to incorporate a bit of everything. Thank you for your advice 🙂
So what are your plans, will you grow under the trees? That would provide cover for the plants. When do other farmers water in Sicily? Plants generally are most receptive to watering early in the morning. Mio Nonno would plant deeper and plant in trenches directly water in the trench. . Then if you mulch you aren’t watering the mulch. I will mention one more thing, look into No-Till . Also grow what sells and no what you like on a larger scale. I apologized I’m also a contidino if you say Giuseppe enough questions I understand. In Bocco Lupo.
So far, we are waiting for autumn, and it does not require any shading . As soon as it starts to cool down, even water consumption will be reduced to a minimum. We usually like to water in the evening. We are trying to do no till, but our soil is still clay, so we need to soften a bit with tractoring. At some point, we will stop. But it's difficult even to find who sells compost here. So many things that look easy like adding layers of compost are rather challenging for us because nobody knows what compost is here. And what we make is probably enough for one rised bed. We like to hear opinion of fellow contadino 😊 Thank you for sharing!
I am so happy that you are living your dream together. I was wondering where you both are from? And how you met? I know one of you has family there. Is that why you moved to Sicily? You are such a cute couple and I hope you can achieve all of your dreams. P.S. I also watch Martin Dooulard and am amazed at how talented he is!
You two are very resilient. That happy attitude keeps you moving forward; great to see. My question is, what was the purpose of rototilling the yard like that?
We hope we can last for longer, we are lucky to have each other, family, and now youtube community supporting us 💜 So we are definitely have a reason to smile 😃 The reason rototilling out soil like is is because it's mostly clay and it gets too compact. Especially some areas without rain and no crops for a while. We would love to do no till one day, but we don't have access to large amounts of compost here, so it's rather difficult. We are trying to amend our soil with some organic material, but we have access to a small amount of it.
I just subscribed to your channel. My wife and I are watching your videos from Japan and we feel so sorry for the challenging days you are both facing. Climate change started to affect everyone and we finally are taking it seriously. Japan would welcome you : demographic is bad and less and less farmers here, so why not considering our beautiful island?
Hello Japan 👋 It's so nice that you and your wife are enjoying our channel ❤️ climate change is affecting so many countries, but not many are taking it seriously, unfortunately 😢 Sicily is definitely not taking it seriously. Japan is such a wonderful place, but it's way too far from our family. Warm regards from Sicily ❤️
I had a big Maine Coon cat named Nero. When I lived in Firenze three years ago he snuck out the window and sadly he fell somehow and was killed. RIP Nero. Remind me where in Sicily you are? I believe we are fairly close. Also, where are you able to sell your produce? Grazie, Paul in Castellammare del Golfo
Hi guys. I can’t give you any agricultural advice but do have a tip about growing your channel. In storytelling it’s called show don’t tell: and you guys have an amazing story to tell! I think you want to try and get more footage around your property and really hone in on the film making aspect of being on TH-cam. Look at the channel called Talisbaum to see what I mean, they are a young couple who are very inspiring and make absolutely beautiful films of their off grid life, even when it’s a struggle. I really do hope you guys do well, it’s compelling, authentic stuff and you are both so likeable! Cheering for you and hope this bit of advice helps rather than coming off as obnoxious! I mean well. Take care of each other out there
Thank you for your advice! We really appreciate good feedback. We just looked into their channel, and we see what you mean. That's definitely our plan to improve videos and make it more interesting. We want people to see more of our reality! We really appreciate your help ❤️
You might find a local association (agri-association, chamber of commerce, CAF - Centro Assistenza Fiscale) which might offer an orientation service for the public incentives ;)
Have you seen any of the designs of low tech systems created by architects to capture drinking water in the desert, in conditions of high humidity? You have high humidity too and could be capturing that water.
In my country the price of land is affordable ,good soils ,good weather plus we have quality of water for irrigation..what dou think of ELECTROCULTURE PRACTICES .
Sounds like you have perfect conditions! Lucky you 😊 We have been doing some research about electrocultrure, and it seems like it could really work. We will definitely try it. So should you 😉
