Nintendo knew long ago, focusing on power and graphics is a losing battle. We couldn't see it during the 7th & 8th gen, but the 9th gen has made it undeniable. How you play is also important. That's what Nintendo has focused on and it has paid off twice. I hope Switch 2 fosters more creativity so we can have more fun instead of spending more money to have marginally more fun.

Publisher buying studios in 50% of the reason games suck now. Because the creatives no longer have full control over what goes into the game. Publisher are the people that push micro transactions into games. Look at Activison, Microsoft, EA as prime examples. Developers can’t give them any pushback on this by threatening not to release on certain platforms or using a different publisher because they are no longer their own bosses/have the rights to their IPs. Then you factor in the sea of telentless DEI hires in game development that replace the actual talented developers that push back on shit, and you get the state of gaming we are in today.

I am honestly a ps guy for like but win a series x at work last year. I still had a ps4 pro. I couldn’t be happier tbh. Forza and Indiana jones make it worth getting it. Unless you get the ps5 pro then you have an inferior product compared to series x. Game pass alone makes it worth it

I bought a PS5 & a Series X when both released. My Series X has barely been turned on in 4 years and when it has it’s been a disappointment. My PS5 has been a third party console & pretty much nothing more. I just bought a switch for the first time, I was always kind of a snob about handhelds and never had a Nintendo console before, but Jesus Christ did I make a massive mistake. I’ve missed out on an incredible console and I intent on getting a switch 2 immediately on release. Being overwhelmed by a choice of games and them actually being great is a feeling I’ve not had in years

The thing is Nintendo doesn’t need to compete at all. They win either way. When it’s not a competition and you focus on what works and what ppl want there’s the success.

In the year since this video was published: Sony released Concord, a game that was such a massive failure that it got removed from PSN and Steam only two weeks after launch and had it's servers shut down and everyone got refunded along with the game's budget costing Sony $400 million after 8 years in development since they thought Concord would be the next "Star Wars", FFVII Rebirth released on PS5 and the game's sales were so disappointing that Square Enix did a 180 and ditched exclusivity deals with Sony and will now be making all their big budget games multiplatform going forward, Sony then canceled at least 9 of their live service games and released a $700 console "upgrade" that doesn't have a disc drive, and God of War Ragnarok, Ghosts of Tushima, Spider-Man 2, TLOU2, FFXVI and FFVII Rebirth all got ported to PC along with planned PC ports of Astro Bot and Stellar Blade releasing sometime in the near future making the PS5 increasingly pointless and irrelevant. But I'm sure they'll still turn things around right? 🤣

Xbox has arma I know ps5 has it to but they can’t play modded servers. Arma reforger is the only game on Xbox that impressed me.

Remakes are good when it’s a classic action game and not a story game. Inevitably, a story remake will change an important aspect of the story for modern audiences, in those cases, a remaster is better.

bro, ps5 anything has a truckload libary of aaa budgets to dreamcast-like games. amongst being a easy attachrate console brand, nintendo while they make zelda games, got far than they shouldn't by screwing over people who worked for them, they really need to pay online communities and press, just for dolts to buy their tablet running games with technical spec w/ framerate and resolution issues, pretending mario is more than some secondary hobby brand

Nintendo at this point should just buy GameFreak. Pokemon literally is exclusive to them already.

Exclusive games are a bad thing. I don’t want to buy 3 systems to be Able to play everything. Than I have to pay almost a €1000 on systems to be able to play everything. I rather spend €400 for a consel and there are zero exclusives. And €800/900 for a pc +€200/300 gear, and probably better to spend more on the pc. Its just expensive.

Know should be the time the real games come for this generation. In the second half not the first half. And instead of 2 big games from studio’s its 1 big game per console generation. And many of the old guard aren’t finding succes. To few exculives. That what makes many poeple feel like the generation sucks. However there are way more studio’s and many new studio’s are finding succes. Few exclusives are a good thing. And I am hyped for many games that are coming out in 2025.

I have a xbox series x and it is the best consol i have ever had because of the massive library of retro games you can play on it. I have three current gen games. The rest are retro games. You can pick up these retro games off of eBay for $10-15 and they play great. Load times are non existent. For example i got gears of war 1-2-3 for less than $20.

This is even funnier now since Shadow of the Erdtree didn't win a single award. It makes the decision to allow DLC expansions to be nominated even more baffling now. And Astro Bot was right, it did make a name for itself there

Tbf, Nintendo is no saint either. Sony and Microsoft might not have many games, but at the very least you get more out of them than Nintendo games. And I’m not talking about graphics. Nintendo’s biggest problem is their draconian and overzealous control over their IP’s. When you buy a Mario or Zelda game, you’ll play them exactly how, when, and where Nintendo says. If you even think about modding or emulating a game, they’ll slap you with a DMCA lawsuit without hesitation. With Sony and Microsoft, mods and emulators are not only supported, but encouraged. So technically, you’re getting more worth out of purchasing Sony/Microsoft games since you can do whatever you want with them, while all you get with Nintendo is a leash.

This was a great show for me this year. Sure I didn't get games that would've made me lose it at 10pm (cough KH4), but I got many more surprises in place of those wants. Fumito Ueda's next game, Split Fiction, ND's Intergalactic, Samir Avit's speech, great musical performances (Lorne Balfe conducting the Okami sequel reveal is an all timer announcement for me), and Astro Bot winning GOTY. Such a fun time for me!

It;s just games, and PC is the same as the cough consoles. Switch is different, it's designed to be portable and fun, it doesn't need to be serious.

It's getting better, the 9th gen didn't really get a fair start until 2022. There's games like: Astro Bot, Stellar Blade, Marvels Spiderman 2, Marvel Rivals, Final Fantasy XVI, ext. All fully 9th gen games, and they were released within 2023/2024. I think 2025 is gonna be amazing for the 9th gen of gaming with releases like Gta 6, Ghost of Yotei, Monster Hunter Wilds, ext.

For me I only got the PS5 as I wanted to dip my toes into Playstation games and I needed a new blu ray/DVD player… And the games I have for the system are mostly PS4 games I only have like 2 PS5 games 😅

Best thing Microsoft and Sony can do for all involved is to push for extending the generation as long as possible. With the GPU market being what it is and nvidia going full villain, there's no momentum in the PC space like there was back in the final years of the seventh gen. The hardware in the Series X and PS5 is still up to par, they were overengineered at release after all, so they may as well eek every last dollar out of what are still very capable platforms.

I really do not like this feeling in the back of my mind that the Elden Ring DLC randomly being here means that's the thing that's gonna win I *really* do not like the idea of DLCs being candidates for GOTY especially since it opens the possibility of a game winning GOTY twice

The fact that not even Persona 3 reload or shadow gens get a catagory is what really disappointed me, especially with how positive critics were to them.

While I expected it, still disappointed Rivals 2 wasn't nominated over MVS for Best Fighting Game. (And I like MVS)
