The disc drive being completely separate from the system is the biggest thing I am the most concerned about. Maybe this is selfish of me but as someone who 90% of the time is discovering old classics instead of pouncing on what’s new- I kind of can’t wait for a video game crash to happen. I love video games, I don’t *want* bad things to happen to the industry creating things I love- but maybe a little tough love is what will put us all back on track to where we need to be. To make it worse, here in Canada if you were to include the Disc Drive, the Stand, and add the tax, the PS5 Pro is around $1245 CAD. That's a hard pass from me lol.
See my biggest concern is the value proposition for purchasing an expensive console when they can’t even make the visuals as appealing as older games in the same series is super concerning. Take the suicide squad game versus old Batman Arkham games. Those look so much better with so much better character animations, better looking worlds, etc.
It's moreso that Microsoft needs to get in gear, Nintendo hasn't competed with anyone in a decade and for the most part that's worked out perfectly for them, they're not going to go back on something when their current model is successful.

Microsoft has announced that their next console will be diskless and that's gonna be the only option, and we know, alone from the fact that we were even given the choice between disk and digital this generation, that companies more and more try to steer us towards being all-digital.

I download the exe for windows or sh file for linux, and dont install it by the GOG Galaxy way. The only unusual thing that occurs for game installed on Windows is that Windows SmartScreen will complain if you turn off your wifi and run the game installer exe, but you can choose "Run Anyway" to run the game installer

If this is the route Sony is going, the PS5 may be my last from them. In Australia the ps5 was $749 on launch, we now have to pay 1399 (1199+150+50) for the disc and stand, almost double. Sony has gotten greedy.

How did they think this would work out well? The industry has to admit they have failed at game development. Entire Genres have disappeared. We need Games. We need REASONS to want a new console. They should look back at the PS1-PS2 game libraries and let those games inspire them and get them back to doing what they did during those eras of games. We need 2D, 2.5D, 3D, low poly PS1 style, 2d animation style, cell shaded, sports & Xtreme sports we just need GAMES! It worked then and it will work now. That approach to gaming will always work in gaming, so it's pretty ridiculous how our MODERN gaming industry has lost the plot as much as they have.
Maybe this is selfish of me but as someone who 90% of the time is discovering old classics instead of pouncing on what’s new- I kind of can’t wait for a video game crash to happen. Stuff like this is so dangerously out of touch there is no way that it can be sustainable for the general public and something is going to crack. I love video games, I don’t *want* bad things to happen to the industry creating things I love- but maybe a little tough love is what will put us all back on track to where we need to be.
Even if there is a novelty to intensely realistic visuals and stuff (which doesn’t do anything to me, but there are fans I guess) how about we just be patient and wait a few more years for tech to reach these standards while still finding a way to maintain affordability as it grows
I like my ps5 but I have only played like 3 or 4 exclusives and all of them never gave me the impression that they couldn’t run on a ps4- nor do I care because i enjoy playing a good game regardless of how many pixels there are

Honestly even if i don't really care for the console since i have a pretty great PC but i will say the games they made PS5/PC it are pretty amazing, at least the ones i played like Rift Apart, Helldivers 2 and Returnal, especially the last one man it's such a unique, risky and bold Roguevania idk how almost nobody is talking about it, if it was a PS5 only game it would be the best along side Astro. Can't wait to play GOW Ragnarok.
I'm usually just judge games for what they are instead of "its exclusive, diverse (genre) ,quirky or not" or compared them with other unrelated games like with twitter usually does which sucks bc that's not real criticism its just petty regurgitated takes.
I kinda feel like my PS5 was a waste of money when it comes to buying new games. It’s nice for the PS4 games and the exclusives. But there is less and less exclusives left. I have a kick ass PC so I’ve been buying games on there. After this ridiculous pricing for what the pro is has pushed me away from Sony PlayStation. I’ll stick to my PC. I can wait for games to come to Steam.

To make it worse, here in Canada if you were to include the Disc Drive, the Stand, and add the tax, the PS5 Pro is around $1245 CAD. That's a hard pass from me lol.

See my biggest concern is the value proposition for purchasing an expensive console when they can’t even make the visuals as appealing as older games in the same series is super concerning. Take the suicide squad game versus old Batman Arkham games. Those look so much better with so much better character animations, better looking worlds, etc.

Why are people surprised at the diskless thing? Microsoft has announced that their next console will be diskless and that's gonna be the only option, and we know, alone from the fact that we were even given the choice between disk and digital this generation, that companies more and more try to steer us towards being all-digital.
At that point there's simply no point in having a console.
If you gotta throw away your games every 4 years when you replace the console then just buy a PC where you keep the games for as long as you have a working computer

I've been getting more games on GOG, itch IO to own the game. I download the exe for windows or sh file for linux, and dont install it by the GOG Galaxy way. The only unusual thing that occurs for game installed on Windows is that Windows SmartScreen will complain if you turn off your wifi and run the game installer exe, but you can choose "Run Anyway" to run the game installer

If this is the route Sony is going, the PS5 may be my last from them. I can’t justify potentially buying a PS6 if the selling point is just upgrades that aren’t even noticeable and barely any exclusives coming out for these prices (without a disc drive to boot). Nintendo isn’t perfect by any means, but at least they’re sticking with affordable hardware and a big library of games.
