The History of Socata TBM (now Daher TBM)
The SOCATA TBM (now Daher TBM) is a family of high-performance single-engine turboprop manufactured by Daher. It was originally collaboratively developed between the American Mooney Airplane Company and French light aircraft manufacturer SOCATA. In fact, "TB" stands for Tarbes, France where Socata was located, and "M" stands for, you guessed it - Mooney!
The design of the TBM family originates from the Mooney 301, a comparatively low-powered and smaller prototype Mooney developed in the early 1980s. Following Mooney's acquisition by French owners, Mooney and SOCATA started a joint venture for the purpose of developing and manufacturing a new, enlarged turboprop design, which was designated as the TBM 700. Upon its entry onto the market in 1990, it was the first high-performance single-engine passenger/cargo aircraft to enter production.
Shortly after launch, the TBM 700 was a market success, which led to the production of multiple variants and improved models, often incorporating more powerful engines and new avionics. The TBM 850 is the production name assigned to the TBM 700N, an improved version of the aircraft powered by a single Pratt & Whitney PT6A-66D. In March 2014, an aerodynamically refined version of the TBM 700N, marketed as the TBM 900, then the 910 with standard G1000 NXi. The 930 arrived by 2016 with the G3000 flight deck, which was replaced by the 940 with autothrottle and "HomeSafe" autoland in 2019. As a crescendo in 2022, the magnificent TBM 960 has arrived, with the Fadec-controlled PT6E-66XT P&W engine (5,000 TBO). Daher TBM has become a powerhouse in business and personal aviation, around the globe with these impressively performing aircraft.

A private pilot license with instrument rating is really all you need… though a lot more training is conducive to being safe and proficient. That is one of many things that’s so remarkable about these “very fast” turboprops.

Contrary to popular ideals. I do not like glass cockpits
I would go with a TBM960 or Epic 1000GX any day over vision jet. Shorter T/O and landing distance and a faster cruise. And a single engine jet is a bird strike away from landing w a parachute. Epic 1000 is faster and does 4000f/mjn climb initially is amazing.

Sucks to go through an entire buying process and then less than a year later you realize it’s not the plane you want/need…. Curious to know more specifics on why the change of aircraft by the owner after less than a year?
Thanks for checking out video out. Just after we start the engine the pilot goes into detail about their mission. They realized they just need more room, likely King Air. They’ve enjoyed this bird and our nearly 150 hours on it, so no heartburn for them but yeah, get what you mean!
Just seeing the huge rear door on the 960. Then the pilot door. Why would anybody want to buy a vision jet? Which you can’t even put in a couple bicycles.
Just a different mission profile. Vision is fast, comfortable, personal. TBM is - faster, performance, no-compromise
Vision jet will land itself and has parachute.
I suspect jet is much quieter.
Slightly quieter, but not much. Both do not require rear cabin headphones for pax
@@slowsteve3497 TBM has the same system to land itself. Both planes you’re wearing a noise cancelling headset… TBM also has an option of having a mini lav in the back…

I'm here because I'm volunteering @ Franklin NC airport the last few days with needed supplies being brought in for devastated families. A nice fellow came in today in one of these planes and me being a Hot rodder / motor head when that beautiful plane touched down it caught my attention what a BEAST & POWER HOUSE ( WOW ) the pilot told me the prop was $100,000 dollars also
