This channel will focus primarily on how to setup and program Mazatrol CNC lathes. I'm using a Mazak T--3 control, but the information presented here is applicable to the T-1 and T-2 controls as well as the newer controls. My machine does not have as many features as the newest Smooth-X control, but the basic programming techniques of programming Mazatrol has remained essentially unchanged throughout the years.

Can you help me, please? I have a problem with my lathe. I cannot start the spindle because I get an error: "adjust center position." What should I do?
@@szszprycha what is the error number? That will help look up the problem.

can you explain fixed tapping vs floating tapping? it's an option in EDIT TOOL
@@fredrezfield1629 I have to use a floating tapping head on my old machine because the spindle does not sync perfectly with feed. Fixed tapping is where the tap is held rigid like an endmill and the machine can perfectly synchronize spindle rpm with feed.
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 i have that !! thanks the fixed is so much better
Can you make a video doing the same thing but instead of an O.D. tool could you do a boring bar?
@@aarontabor2915 Sure thing. Thanks for the suggestion.
Good morning a question, to start in a tool that I want? So that it doesn't run from the beginning
@@hectorsaucedo6302 you use the restart function instead of auto mode.

Hi Phil, im using mazatrol t-plus with rigid tapping enabled on the milling spindle. It is working great, however it reverses the tap back out very fast. So far no problems but is there any way to slow it down no the reverse? I had a quick look through parameters but cant see one for it.
How do use the facing function to do an internal taper? Thank you so much for the mazatrol content. I have learned valuable information.
should make a video of setting up the lathe from start to finish loading the tools, setting them with the toolsetter, entering tool data, setting the z offset, and adjusting the offsets to get a good part.
@@aarontabor2915 thanks for the suggestion. That will be a long video though
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 Depends on how many tools you load.
Muchas gracias doc!!
Hello. First of all, I apologize for any mistakes in writing, but I write in Translator. I learned a lot from your videos and they helped me many times. I have a Mazak QT10N (unfortunately without powered tools). I have a question: When I make corrections to the tool, do I have to check the program every time (check continue) or is it not necessary? Regards
@@kulas108 performing check continue is the safest way when learning Mazatrol to prevent mistakes but not necessary.
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 Thank you very much. Because what I meant was that if the program is long and I raise the knife by 0.02 mm, do I have to recalculate the program. Because he often makes ready-made details. For two programs. First the first program, workpiece rotation and the second program. And it's always time gained without check continue
@@kulas108 you do not need to program check if you are only adjusting wear offsets.
So the boring bar was 1.5 inches?

Hi sir you are quite educative.. From Kenya
Thanks for the compliment.
Hello, I would like to know if you can help me, what could be the reasons why the milling functions LCT, RGT and LFT do not work for me, Thanks in advance
Does your machine have a full C-axis or is it indexing only?
It says in the technical characteristics spindle positioning degree is there any way i can find out?
@@lukamavricek6233 sounds like it is just an indexing only machine. Can you move the chuck rotation with the hand wheel?
how can I try it, I've never done it... in the parameters I put it as it should be, it works at a colleague's place and throws out the error 257 C-axis drive or error, do you know more about it
and locks the spindle as soon as the hydraulics turn on and I can't unlock it
Thanks..
tip comp.?
Little older mode than what i run currently but so glad i found this channel major help in getting my machining career started thank you🙏🏽
You're welcome.
Sir is it possible ... ??to do tapping operation pecking like drill...
Not on my old machine. I will have to check to see if the new machine can do that.
Can you do a back turned concave & convex radius around .625 radius.
Sure. To help you right now the process is the same as forward turning except the starting Z point is to the left and the Z points get smaller towards Z zero.
Thanks ,i'm new subscriber i have 1 question how do you calculate the tool in X axis i miss that part .
For this video, you probe the tool like a boring bar.
Thanks for the awesome videos. I am trying to make internal threading toolpath for which the tool should retract to X21mm and then come out of the hole. But in actual, it first retracts to a smaller number i.e. X17.3mm and then go to X21 and then come out of the hole. X17.3 will cause my threading bar to smash in to workpiece. Do you have any idea what could be wrong and how it can be avoided? Would appreciate that. Cheers.
On the T-2 and T-3 controls, you need to put PNo0 line ID size same as the minor diameter of the thread. Check out my ID threading video.
VFC full form..?
Heres a question. I tried using this in my Mazak with Mazatrol T32 b controller. It mills the arc but travels in a straight line beyond X 0.. This gouges the arc. Any Ideas ? Year is about 1995 ish
Hmmm. Perhaps something from Mazak changed after the T-2 control? See if you can cut past X0 using a copy face motion.
This guy has a criminally small audience and reach for the valueable info he puts out. I wish I had known about this channel years ago when I first started on mazatrol.
Thanks for the compliment. I will keep making videos. Hopefully it helps more people.
Is it possible to make this feature but with a parabolic face instead of concave radius?
Sort of. You would need a series of tangent arcs to approximate a parabola.
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 Damn that was a fast reply... Thank you! Keep up the great work, just got my first Mazak lathe so im bingeing your channel!
Hii sir
I would like to see a video explaining how to describe tools.
My early videos show how to describe the tools. Have you watched them?
my machine is in German and when describing a rotary tool there are 4 abbreviations to choose from (FSR, FBR...) and I don't know what they describe. I've seen all your videos and I can only say thank you because I wouldn't have done anything without them. Thanks to your videos, I had to learn at least a little English along the way😃
@@Ciasteeek My machine has 5 options available to describe milling tools. MDR is milling drill, MTP is milling tap, BOR is boring bar, EML is endmill and FML is face mill. They are listed in that order from left to right when describing tools on tool file page of T-3 control. Hope that helps some.
that's exactly what I meant, I understand exactly now... I also have 5 options, I got the quantity wrong
i love your content you have definitely shown me alot 1st time mazak user

Hi Phil I have a problem with a machine like yours because I don't know how to set the Y axis, I have the axis moved, it's too low and I don't know how to fix it. Could you help me somehow?
I don't know but there are a few maintenance techs on Practical Machinist that may be able to offer assistance. Post up here. www.practicalmachinist.com/forum/categories/mazak.36/
Do you know if the pocket itself can be moved?
@@Ciasteeek Do you have a QT10N ATC/MC like mine? My machine does not have a Y axis.
Conventionally, I'm talking about the "Y" axis, so that I stay at the "tip" while turning the face. As if the blade of the plate was too high.
are we talking about such a setting?
Very interesting. I am in the process of learning to operate a couple of Okumas. My question pertains to the tool correction values. One of the machines (LB35) has has a tool setting arm but I've been told it's out of order. The way they have been doing it so far is the 'master tool' method as I understand it where tool no.1 is an outside roughing tool which gets assigned a Z value of '0'. The other tools are then touched off I guess from the skimmed surface and their values entered. I am wondering: if the tool setter is used, which value does it produce for Z? Second, do you think the 'master tool' method is viable in general? One problem I see is that when the master tool would be pushed off its value all the other tools are affected, second, I think 'all tools are created equal' so a fixed machine reference plane would make much more sense to me. Furthermore, the LB35 is equipped with QC tools which I guess could be preset outside of the machine although I don't know if that is even a thing with CNC lathes especially of this vintage. Hope this makes sense and it would be great if you as an expert could shed some light. Thanks and all the best from Holland.
Hello everyone Is it possible to change language on T2? Like in a parametar settnings or something? Thanks anyway
You saved the day on this one. Mazatrol can be a pain sometimes.
Keep continue sir.....
Thanks for the encouragement.
Thanks for accepting sir...we are all eagerly waiting for current version of mazak machine programming.
Great Job Phil! so helpful!! we had a 45 yr employee retire that ran this control T-2 No one else knows how to program it here. Your videos are keeping me from throwing this lathe out to the scrap yard. Thank you. We machine forging dies with very complex geometry. I would love to see a face groove program when you get a chance
I do have one video on face grooving if that helps right now.
