Fish Bonanza Spearfishing!
When you can see thousands of baitfish with the drone exactly where you're gonna jump in the water, you know it's gonna be a good day spearfishing! This spot on Hitra in Norway is known to be good for small fish like cods and pollocks, but the larger ones normally stay away.

Halibuts are not easy to find, and sometimes you have to use weeks to get one on the spear. On a work trip earlier this fall, I joined Martin for a dive in the northern part of Norway, and it was our only chance to get one. This time we went spearfishing during the night, only using polespears! The darkness adds a level of challenge, but we catch some delicious fish and have an unforgettable encounter with a friendly squid. A dive so fun, it was even worth changing in -15°C! are those kina at around 4:30 edible?
The red ones taste like banana peel, with a texture like boogie. There are green, smaller ones however, which are (said to be) a delicately in season:)

I see that the visibility is a little better than in May when I was there, nice catch, congratulations, my favorite place
This was 30th of May, but we were absolutely lucky to avoid the worst algae bloom!
@@AkselOrstavik if I was there on May 17, the visibility was maybe one to two meters and the current killed us because of how strong it was
Could you explain your set up and equipment in a video, as it looks different than the UK. Especially the float line clip and the gun. Cheers. Always your videos are a great watch💪👍

Man dude that video was dope, I’m not into free diving a whole lot considering I live in North Louisiana USA and all we have are dirty lakes, plenty of fish though. Love fishing and hunting.

@@AkselOrstavik Yeah hunting here especially in Louisiana is fun, so many deer, ducks, hogs (wild pigs), etc. We can take 6 deer per season

How do you swim up to the surface wihout pooping your lunges? Like technique
No special technique, as we’re freediving! When we draw our breath at the surface, our lungs are full (let’s say 5L). When we dive down to 10 meters, the lungs would be 2,5L. When swimming up to the surface, the lungs expand back to 5L. Same concept further down. For scuba diving it’s different. If you draw your breath at 10m and fill your lungs with 5L, and swim up without breathing out, the lungs would be 10L at the surface, which isn’t good;)

Pretty much, Norway is a fantastic place to practice this sport!
HOW do you avoid brainfreeze in this water?
The first minute is painful, but after that it’s surprisingly alright until it’s been an hour and a half;) good 7mm wetsuits help lots!

It’s more light than shows on the camera, and it’s less scary once you’ve been down there and seen what’s hanging out:)

With some practice and time in the sea you’d be surprised how long you can hold your breath! Add on a couple of years of experience, and you’re gonna be quite comfortable:)

I have no problem with spear fishing, but there's something cowardly with shooting fish that lay motionless on the bottom of the ocean.
TO be honest, not really. If you think about it, a shark wouldn’t pass up that opportunity if it presented itself
We hunt for food, not glory:) The challenging part of catching monk fish is finding them, same as any other flatfish. In this case a bonus challenge was 5 degree water and 20 meters depth.

Flotte videoer! Veldig underholdene. Er dreven sportsfisker selv, men helt grønn på undervannsjakt og tenker å begynne med det. Har du noen tips til en nybegynner? Ser at det er mange forskjellige pakker å få kjøpt, men vet ikke helt hva som er lurt.
Takk for det, så kjekt å høre at du tenker å starte! Er veldig glad i Frivannsliv selv (og jobbet der litt i fjor), og startet med den helt basic pakken. Den som er hakket over er basert på det de fleste kjøper iløpet av det første året som dykkere, så den er jo å anbefale:) Ville sjekket ut mulighet for kurs der du holder til, da det er den beste starten du kan få. Som backup kan webinar gi en innføring i både fridykking, undervannsjakt, nattdykking osv. Frivannsliv holder jevnlig gratis webinar, og flere gamle ligger ute på TH-cam-kanalen deres. Ellers kan du finne diverse tips og triks på ‘Fridykkerforumet’ på Facebook. Masse lykke til med ny hobby!
Takk for mange gode tips! Da har jeg mye å ta fatt i. Titter litt på Frivannsliv og det ser ut som at det er mye bra der ja. Det blir nok en pakke derifra. Har tenkt på å starte i flere år, men flyttet nettopp til Brønnøysund og med forholdene her er det ikke noe spørsmål om annet. 😅 Ser frem til flere videoer!

Hyse, or Sei, is not called pollock i belive, as that is the name for alaska cod. its coalfish for sei, and Haddock for hyse. Thats a big boi breiflabb :D Edit: pollack, is Lyr. Not sure if you ment pollock, or pollack.
